Hi. I went to the opening on November 15 at the Phil Bosakowski Theatre and on that night, Amir Darvish (the actor who portrays Freddie) WAS Freddie Mercury! He was that true to the being, the character and soul of Freddie. It was eerie. It gave me goosebumps. He captured the complete essence of Freddie--his characteristics, his movements, the cock of his head, the way he raised his eyebrow--just amazing! You will not be disappointed, I'm sure! Enjoy the show! It was poignant, sad, funny and full of Freddie's quotes (which we all know). Amir Darvish is an incredible actor to be able to capture such a complex man as Freddie. Let us all know what you think. I'm certainly going back, but I haven't set a date yet. But, I know I'm not going to miss a chance to see it again. It just stayed with me for days and days on end. Amazing show!
Malina -- Sounds Great! I was trying to go into NYC to see it this weekend but my plans fell through...Can you tell what the set was like and is Amir Darvish really cute?
He seems adorable on his website. ;o)
Kriz ;o)
Krizzy, I went to the first theatre it was played at, but I'm sure this theatre is very similar. It was very, very small. The stage was very simple. Just a throne, a small table with a bottle of wine, a glass, an ashtray and cigarettes, and a few other props lying around. The lights go out completely and when they come on, there is "Freddie" on the throne wearing his crown. It is just him talking the entire time. He goes back from his childhood until the day he dies. It is very poingnant, sad and funny. He calls for Phoebe many times and talks of his parents, as well as Jim and Mary and of course Queen. He struggles within himself as Faroukh and Freddie and when he is Faroukh, he speaks in his language and of course Freddie speaks English. To go between the two languages like that, the two personalities, the shy, unassuming, little quiet Faroukh to the bold, larger than life, star Freddie in a single breath just shows you how great of an actor Amir Darvish is. He captured the whole essence of Freddie--the entire personality, in my opinion. You see the hurts Freddie went through in his life as a child and as an adult. It's not so much that Amir looks like Freddie, but he brought out the inside of Freddie where when you looked at him and heard him and listened to him and watched him, you could swear he was Freddie. The show left me speechless! And, yes, Amir Darvish is cute, but what an intense actor. Great show. You should make a point of getting to NY to see it!
I was looking at the web page for the theater & the freddie show. Does the play only run on Sundays? Thats what it seems like reading the info. Please let me know. Thanks!!
