Most of you will not be aware of the astounding comic book artist Alex Ross who's mission is to make the amazing and fantastic appear realistic. I got a book of his art for DC comics for Christmas and was delighted to find out that his favourite band is Queen. In the book 'Mythology' I got a shock when confronted with the Queen II album sleeve. The text reads: "The iconic album cover for Queen II (Elektra Records, 1974, photographed by Mick Rock) has been an inspiration to Ross since he first saw it as a child. "My favorite band, and my favorite album cover ever. I stole the lighting technique and the figure placement to make what is probably the most popular group shot of the Justice League [Super Hero Group]) I've done yet." With Roger and Brian's fascination all-things space and fantasy perhaps Alex should be brought in to provide some art-work for the box-set? For the uninitiated, go and have a look at some of his stuff here: link
The guy is fucking amazing and would surely jump at the chance to help out with a major Queen project.....?!
I remember hearing about Alex Ross a lot from a friend. He said that Alex's pictures were some of the best in the comics and he wasn't wrong.
Nice idea about letting Bri and Rog know. But I don't see anything but a nice connection. Not really something to include in the boxset. BUT, I do see the idea of asking Alex Ross to create some new artwork for the boxset.
Nice one! Btw, is this the shot he was referring to: -> link
I can definitely picture a book (like in FM box) with artwork showing off iconic Queen images with this guys style. I think it's a great idea.
Peace,
Adam.
Yeah, that's the one. In the Mythology book it becomes apparent that one of Alex's passions is re-creating old comic covers (eg from the 1940's and 50's) in his realistic style. I can imagine the NOTW cover being given the Ross treatment and can only imagine what the results would be like........!
You REALLY should send this idea to Brian through his soapbox! I'd LOVE to see something like that! I am ALWAYS amazed by his artwork and a little jealous I might add! LOL!
