What's he done to deserve being knighted?
writing a few songs and giving 0.0005% of your wealth to charity is hardly worth being knighted. Ditto Elton John or Mick Jagger. Its' all meaningless bollocks.
Tell me what immense good Mr May has done to the commonwealth as a whole, in order to deserve to be knighted. I cannot see why anyone who's written and sang on a few songs deserves that honour.
Personally I think they hand these things out far too frequently, and they mean about as much as Arsene Wenger's accusations of hardship to Arsenal by referees.
"WHY?!?!"
Brian was ,arguably, in the best band that the UK has ever seen.He has helped numerous(a ton) Charities,a lot more than some of those already knighted.
I think Brian deserves to be knighted, not like Mick Jagger did(he moved to France to avoid British taxe).
I agree with Eggy.
"he moved to France to avoid British taxe"
- queen have, in the past, also avoided tax by keeping out of the country for most of the year.
2 things you have to remember about Brian May's charity work:
1. It is not a totally selfless act, as it helps keep him in the public consciousness, which is something that he craves judging by the projects he has been involved with in the last few years. I seem to recall him whinging a great deal on his webpage that Queen wernt shown enough on the Nelson Mandella concert highlights on channel 4. If he cared about aids and aids only, would it really matter to him how much time queen were on TV?
2. He can afford to give all he wants to charity, as he is worth many millions of pounds (was it as much as 90 million last time I looked?). He never has to work again, and has none of the financial pressures that an average person has. I would consider an 'ordinary' person who gave £100 (and/or a significant part of their time) to charity to be far more generous than Brian May giving a million pounds.
A harsh opinion maybe, but there you go...
No surprise! David Bowie has always seen himself as a world citizen and prefers NYC to London anyway.
As for the Queen boyz they don't really give a toss. I like the sound of Dr. May better than Sir Brian any day, as well Dan.
