This question is about the song "Christmas in Heaven" which is a song in the Meaning of Life film. Who sang that song? Graham Chapman or Eric Idle? In the film, Graham Chapman appears to be singing the song, but the voice can be either Graham of Eric. Ah! Am confused! |
Under Pressure 08.12.2003 02:28 |
The real question is "who will cook dinner? Roddy's got a mouthfull ..." |
Saffron Caribou 08.12.2003 02:32 |
*munches her chips* Well Roddy aint gonna get my chips... *hiccup* |
Fenderek 08.12.2003 03:15 |
Well, it's almost definitelly not Eric Eric the half bee |
iGSM 08.12.2003 08:07 |
I'm pretty sure it's Eric. After all he just about composed every song ever. Even Queen songs. Remember Bohemian Rhapsody? Yep, him. |
Fenderek 08.12.2003 08:14 |
No, the middle bit is Terry's Eric didn't use those scales...IMHO |
Penetration_Guru 08.12.2003 08:38 |
It's Graham. |
Fenderek 08.12.2003 08:43 |
Graham wrote BoRhap? |
look what they've done to claudi.... 08.12.2003 11:26 |
it was graham. i am still afraid of his terribly white fake teeth in the film ^^ eric's voice is clearly different from graham's btw. i can't explain in which way because i lack the vocabulary ^^ but it's 100% different |

So it was Graham! See I asked because I bought the Meaning of Life dvd a while ago, and in the special features there was Eric Idle version of Xmas in Heaven, and it sounds so alike the version of the film. Now that it is confirmed that it is Gray, I always thought that it was his best vocal performance since Medical Love Song. Graham singing BoRhap? That would've been interesting but he can't now coz he is in an urn. |
iGSM 08.12.2003 23:51 |
I'm going to ask you again and if you say no I'll shoot you through the head. Do. You. Have. Any. Cheese. No. *Blam* Funny stuff. Parrot droppings! |
StrangeQuark 08.12.2003 23:56 |
Yeah, I think it was Graham. Speaking of Eric though, has anyone else seen him on his tour of North America??? My god, he is absolutely hilarious live... The show absolutely rocked. Nice guy too, (although only the 6th nicest Python) and he signed autographs afterwards, and I took his picture... |
Saffron Caribou 09.12.2003 00:24 |
Oh ya lucky gal Chantel! I envy you! I would love to meet all the Python (well except Gray, I'll meet him later) before they die. |
iGSM 09.12.2003 00:31 |
Well you're one down already :) |
Saffron Caribou 09.12.2003 00:39 |
Course! I'll meet my fave Python at Heaven...miss ya Gray. Hehehe used to have a massive crush on him until I found out that he was gay! Ughhh WHY! lol Why all the sexy blokes that I had crushes on have to be either gay, married or dead?! |
Fenderek 09.12.2003 05:05 |
OK, I checked - it's Graham... But I never wanted to write answers for threads like that, you know?...I...I...always wanted to be...a LUMBERJACK!!!!! |

"Oh ya lucky gal Chantel!" Hehehe, I know!! But I still wish I could have seen the whole Python gang when they were touring so many years ago... "chantel, why don't you have this pic in your profile?????? i wanna see what he looks like nowadays... and i'm so jealous that he signed autographs there... he didn't reply to my letter unfortunately, i "only" have michael's, john' and terry g.'s autograph..." Done! Funny, I was just about to put it up anyway, before I read your post! I was kind of nervous when I met him, which is why it isn't the greatest picture... Afterwards, he said, "There, now you have a really 'orrible picture of me." :o) "Still no sight of land, how long is it" That's a rather personal question... |
look what they've done to claudi.... 11.12.2003 07:35 |
god, eric looks REALLY old in that pic! but it's still nice to see he's still alive ^^ erm, i got the autographs after writing each of the pythons a letter. "hello, i'm a big fan of yours, would you mind sending me your autograph blablabla" the usual stuff. but it worked! and if some of you are more into that whole python world, some of you may know the "do not adjust your set" show... that one was on telly before the flying circus thing started. and i think most of the pythons were in that show as well. never mind, there was also a lady called denise coffey in it. i also found out her autograph address and wrote a letter to her - and she also replied!!! she actually wrote quite a long letter and *sigh* started it in german (i suppose she saw my german address and wanted to do me a favour with starting the letter in my language). aww she's sooo sweet! the whole thing reminds me of the fact that i haven't written any autograph requests for a few years now.... mmmmh... i should really start again. collecting autographs is one of the best things to do. |
look what they've done to claudi.... 11.12.2003 07:38 |

Also, anyone know a good place to find autographs of the guys from Kids in the Hall? :) |
Saffron Caribou 14.12.2003 15:04 |
Ooooooooh Eric does look old in that pic, but still he looks great :) I've been reading his diary on pythonline about his Greedy Bastard Tour, it sheds a lot of light about who he is which is very nice. :) |

Saffron Caribou 06.02.2004 22:57 |
Sorry to rehash this thread :P But I'm bored, and decided to read some old threads. Now, I was reading FGT's post about the "Gays Boys in Bondage" sketch of the series, and it reminded how I'm a bit pissed off with A & E for making unnecessary edits in the Monty Python Flying Circus series. See, for my birthday, this past Monday, I got the 14 DVD set of the series by the people from A&E. Since Monday, I've been watching the episodes, and I was kind of pissed off at some episodes. For example, the infamous "Masturbating" word from the "Summarise Proust" sketch. For the people that perhaps never heard or do not remember this sketch, Terry Jones plays the role of a host in a Summarize Proust competition, in which consisted in summarising a book written by Proust in 15 seconds. The first contestant was Graham Chapman. He didn't summarise the book in 15 seconds. After the defeat, Terry asked him what are his hobbies outside summarising. Graham answered the hilarious, but infamous line "Straggling animals, golf and masturbating". The people from A & E (I think they did the editing, correct me if I'm wrong please) screwed the line "Straggling animals, golf and masturbating". They changed the audio putting Golf first, then straggling animals, cutting masturbating. Thus delaying the audio for a few seconds! Sheesh, it’s ridiculous! I don't understand why for a DVD release they had to make this unnecessary edit?! For TV, okay sure, but for a DVD release?! Ridiculous! I remember in 87 when MTV used to air the series, and that particular sketch wasn't edited. When I watched the series again, back in 91, when Comedy Central, before it was the HA! channel, aired the series unedited. Another case of unnecessary edit in the series is -Gay Boys in Bondage sketch: In the original sketch, Carol Cleveland was reading the book, and you can see the cover of the book for about 5 or 6 seconds. In the edited version, that was cut out. It's a shame really, I'd always wanted to know who wrote that book ;) :P There are others, but I can't recall at the moment. Still the question still stands, I don't understand why would A&E do such a shoddy job in editing one of the funniest sketches in the series for this DVD collection!? |

Saffron Caribou 06.02.2004 23:48 |
Oooooh Mrs. Groucho don't get me started! Don't make me start to fantasise about Michael Palin naked! *Thinks about the pic in which 5 out of the 6 Pythons are naked whilst their naughty bits covered, darn* Ooooooooooer! |
mrs_groucho 07.02.2004 00:53 |
Mmm...Michael Palin covered in honey...He is good enough to eat...*melts at the very thought* Love and I am a puddle, Mrs. G |

Penetration_Guru 07.02.2004 11:05 |
I think you'll find that it's not A&E - all they're doing is reissuing the syndicated versions of the shows. You'll also notice that in one animation someone ignores a spot on their face and dies of a very badly dubbed whooping cough - heaven forbid anyone should say cancer on TV.... |
Fenderek 07.02.2004 11:21 |
The "maturbating" bit was censored by BBC... |
Saffron Caribou 08.02.2004 23:51 |
Thanks for clarifying that P_G. I found out, through the magic of the Internet, that they are airing the shows that the BBC edited in the late 80's. In which incl. the MARVELOUS "gangrene" word. :S Although, in the film, "And Now For Something Completetly Different", the word "cancer" is used. It was for film, it was understandable for that medium. Fenderek, yes the BBC did edit out the "masturbating" originally. However, there is an unedited version that had been circulating since the mid 80's. That contains the full line from the "Summarise Proust Competition". That version is the one that I reffered to when I said that I saw this back in 87' on MTV, and again in 91'. Another edit that I found out was the "Coreographer Politician" (from the ep. Book At Bedtime) sketch, a sketch that I never had seen before. I don't know why it was necessary to edit that. I read the sketch, it seemed harmless. Grrrr censorship grrrr |
