Kickforce 01.12.2003 10:45 |
where did you here this song? I'm very curious :)! |
ogre t raylot 01.12.2003 10:58 |
"where did you here this song? I'm very curious :)!" Currntly being played on the radio. Very average I must say - The 'joke' is now well past it's sell-by date. |
David Jones 01.12.2003 14:38 |
Utter shite. Ever since they came out. I fucking cringe everytime I see the cunts. Are they taking the piss or what?! Rock, my arse! |
Daburcor? 01.12.2003 15:08 |
I heard them the other day. I must say the hype is unwarrented. They sounded like a joke to me. |
Flashman 01.12.2003 17:40 |
Gerroutofit! The Darkness rock, and let's not hear any more of these silly comments stating otherwise. |
Spisso 01.12.2003 19:14 |
The Darkness suck |
Saffron Caribou 01.12.2003 20:38 |
The Darkness ROCKS! Cock Rock mixed in with 70's Glam Rock is BACK! Woooooo! I used to think they sucked, until I bought the album. It completetly changed my mind! Woooo! |
Erin 01.12.2003 20:43 |
So..you think the lead singer clamps his testicles with pliers, a vice, or what? Anyone know? |
Saffron Caribou 01.12.2003 20:47 |
If he does, I'd to clamp those things to his testes myself :D teeeheee The Darkness...phhhhrooooooar |
Spisso 02.12.2003 04:42 |
LOL Erin!!! |
Spiderleg Synthia 02.12.2003 05:58 |
Awww, this takes me back to the old days of testicle grabbing with Chuffy. Ahhhh... |
iGSM 02.12.2003 06:43 |
So long as I get to keep the profits. |
Mercuryking 03.12.2003 06:40 |
The Darkness is a bad immitation of Queen |
Freddie-B 03.12.2003 08:06 |
"Are they taking the piss?" Of course they are!! They're bloody class! It's always nice to see glam rock done with tongue in cheek-especially when there's so much bollocks around in music like there is today. Good for the Darkness, I say. I do wish people would stop saying they're a bad imitation of Queen, they're just heavily influenced by them, what's wrong with that? |
Penetration_Guru 03.12.2003 08:27 |
A shame the song is so shite and thelyrics barely legible. The should have covered Cashing In On Christmas... |
Fenderek 03.12.2003 08:48 |
I can't stand this song!!!! I liked the album but this one... AWFUL!!! |
Wayne Gretzky 03.12.2003 12:25 |
I'm listening to it right now for the first time. It's not that good, but I hope it will grow on me. |
queenrocks! 10902 03.12.2003 13:19 |
I heard somewhere that The Darkness are the new Queen. I mean Justin Hawkins like Freddie Mercury? Hello, I don't think so not in a million years will he ever be like Freddie. |
Penetration_Guru 03.12.2003 13:25 |
In significantly less than a million years they will be indistinguishable from one another. |
Saffron Caribou 03.12.2003 16:55 |
They aren't the new Queen believe me. I love them because they are fresh sound(well its not new of course) but its fresh! It's going back to rock. It's a joy that they are making music. Its a breath of fresh air from all this emo crap! |
Flashman 03.12.2003 18:12 |
'Emo crap' is a new one on me. Did Rod Hull used to get it dripping down his right arm? |
Saffron Caribou 03.12.2003 18:30 |
Emo: emotional rock such as Dashboard Confessionals, Linkin Park, Staind, and other crappy bands. |
Flashman 03.12.2003 18:44 |
Sting then, by your reckoning, would come under the 'un-emotional rock' umbrella? No, my mistake. I'm getting mixed up with the 'Absolutely Shite' umbrella. Easily done though. |
Mr. Teatime 03.12.2003 19:31 |
heard the track today, they have TOTALLY ripped off Brian's guitar playing. Track is pretty poor as a whole though. |
The Fairy King 04.12.2003 11:49 |
love it! |
Kickforce 04.12.2003 15:48 |
just heard it and i like it. For a Xmas song though. Those guys have skills believe me, just listen to their guitar playing. |
Mercuryking 04.12.2003 19:46 |
they vill never be queen , they dont have the varity in the songs , they dont have FREDDIE MERCURY wich is a big minus..... but sure it's a brave attempt to try to be like queen.... |
Saffron Caribou 04.12.2003 20:18 |
How many times this will be said! lol The Darkness arent TRYING to be Queen! They are influenced BY them! Brian and Roger are HUGE fans of theirs I heard. |

Stepford Alert!!! NEWS JUST IN: "Band release some songs, and are influenced by another band. This becomes obvious in their music!" This was the shocking story revealed to the world's newspapers at a specially arranged press conference at The White House today. A spokesperson for the DOM (Dignity of Music) stood, visibly shaken, in front of the press and offered this statement. "We are deeply shocked and saddened to see the dignity of world music so heavily cheapened today. It seems that in England, that country over there, a band called The Darkness have written some songs, and in these songs, they have borrowed heavily from some of their favourite bands. This is, of course, a first for British music. The Darkness have borrowed perhaps most heavily from a machismo cock-rock 70s band called Queen. Queen had to split up in 1991 when lead singer Freddie Mercury sadly died. Since then, Queen fans across the world have always wanted to keep the memory of their favourite band alive. However, we will not tolerate this attempt by the Darkness to make Queen's music fashionable again, and we hope that the Darkness will apologise to Queen fans the world over for having the cheek to respect and like Queen so much. If we ever hear of a band trying to play songs ever again, we will have them dragged out in front of a firing squad, gored by a bunch of Sardinian boars, and then shot from close range, in the crotch, with a double-barrelled shotgun. This will not be tolerated." He went on to say "Justin Hawkins has been specially arrested for trying to actually BE Freddie Mercury. We have evidence that he has committed this crime, because we've seen him singing for the band, which is what Freddie did. We have also arrested Tom Selleck for trying to be Freddie Mercury on the grounds that he too once had a slightly dodgy tasche. We've had reports that Bono was seen in a vest last week....we're looking into it." We will, of course, keep you updated on the situation as it escalates. NEXT WEEK!: Is Justin Timberlake slowly becoming the black Michael Jackson? Is Fat Bryan of Westlife set to reclaim the "Most useless man in pop" crown from Anthony Costa of Blue fame? Why are some Queen fans such fucking ignorant idiots? Tenacious D: Fact or Fiction? Is Robbie Williams really Gary Barlow? Simon Cowell tells all about him and Nicki Chapman. Exclusive Review: Queen Greatest Christmas Hits released after 1976 III out soon-read the review here first!! Bye Bye. |
The Real Wizard 05.12.2003 13:18 |
Brilliant post, Freddie-B. I just hope the ignorant Queen fans that you made the pot-shot at will actually understand what you're trying to say here! |
Krizzy 05.12.2003 14:43 |
The Darkness are a interesting band and I hope they really make a big splash but they do need to find a niche in the coporated screwed-up music industry of today. I'll give them time to find their own sound which I believe they will but they are a bit of respite in between bursts of crappy corporate stuff pouring through top 40 radio today. I'll like all you nay-sayer to know that Queen were ripped apart as well in the music press in their early days as well as compared to Led Zeppelin the bigger band of that time when they started out. So cut The Darkness some slack will ya! My 2-bits for today. I'll get off the soapbox now. Kriz ;o) |
pma 05.12.2003 14:56 |
Heard this tune today and saw the video on MTV, pretty damn good to me. Imitation of the Queen sound clearly, but still. Rather listen to this than ....Spread Your Wings or Dancer :-S |
Clare McGann 05.12.2003 17:46 |
Oh come on lighten up...it's gotta be better than the other crap(they call music) thats all over the charts at the moment!!! It's not like they take themselves seriously...their a nice change in my opinion! |
Daburcor? 05.12.2003 17:57 |
"Is Justin Timberlake slowly becoming the black Michael Jackson?" LMAO!!! |
Banquo 06.12.2003 04:04 |
If any band is influenced by Queen (except Valantine, I listened to him at a convention once, against my will I wanted to put Definately Maybe on, never again) well it's all good. Nobody moans when Muse or Radiohead are compared to Queen its just the popular acts like Robbie or the Darkness when everyone loses their rag. |
The Real Wizard 06.12.2003 10:52 |
"Queen were ripped apart as well in the music press in their early days as well as compared to Led Zeppelin" And one can argue that Jimmy Page is the biggest thief of American blues in the history of all music. Despite that, I still love Led Zep to bits. My point is, that nothing created within the last few centuries can be entirely original. It's just impossible. Truly original music emerged in the 17th century. Everything after that has been influenced by someone before them. |

MissMercury 07.12.2003 11:19 |
i don't see why wouldn't they learn from queen. they are a new, young band, and they will, with time, find their own sound. they are quite refreshing, and their look is great! it's nice to see glam rock on MTV. but, it's true that the guitar solo is totally the same as Brian's solos |
The Real Wizard 09.12.2003 00:00 |
"That are just the words i was trying to find. Thanks for searching ;)" No prob! But for the record, I didn't have to search for the words. When music is your passion, the words are just automatically there. :) |
Banquo 13.12.2003 04:53 |
The video is funny as hell. I never laugh at videos but when the choir started with Justin leading them I pissed myself (not literally). |
Iam the one 13.12.2003 06:19 |
I love The Darkness, the best Rock band since Guns N Roses! The new song is great! The video is funny as hell! |
Rien 13.12.2003 09:20 |
Just downloaded the track (yes I did) to hear it. After three times I deleted it again. In my view this guy just cannot sing. Half the time I don't hear what he's saying. In A Thing Called Love I just thought he sang that way just for that song, but he can only "sing" in that way it seems. I do think these guys do something "new" at the time and perhaps they're here to stay, don't know. Time will tell. |
Brian's sweet sister 13.12.2003 11:13 |
They are NOT trying to be the new Queen. Jeeez, just because they like their music and are bringing back glam rock does not mean they are imitating them. Where do you people get your crazy ideas from? I think The Darkness are doing a pretty good job, obviously they wont be anything as good as Queen cos their b-sides are a bit crap, and Queen's were really good, but don't just go shooting random comments, did they actually say that? No, I didn't think so. |
Iam the one 13.12.2003 12:57 |
In the new edition of Metalhammer there's a The Darkness special,Brian is mention by the band.Brian was interseting playing with band. But i think they was a bit embaressed over Brians work with the boy band 5. |
Another Roger (re) 13.12.2003 14:42 |
Why are people so negative about this band in here?? We should be glad that some bands still brings some glam rock to us. And i do really see some similarities with Queen. This band do NOT care about fashion, neither did Queen. And the guitar indeed reminds me much of Brians sound. I saw an interview with the vocalist in The Darkness. I talked a lot about Freddie Mercury. Its his big inspiration. I love it when bands show Queen this respect. Basically it was about being what god gave you in terms of body, etc. Freddie is a good example there of course. As for the Christmas song: I simply LOVE it. It has a great melody, and good instrumental track. |
Uglyduckling 15.12.2003 06:55 |
WHERE IS MY POST?! It took absolutely ages to write! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... Anyway I love the Darkness, think they are best thing to happen to the charts in a long time. Hopefully similar bands will be encouraged by the enthusiastic response to their music. I bought their album when it was No.62 in the chart, and was glad to hear that they are able to write and play very weel as well a making people laugh. They are not just a novelty act taking the piss out of Glam Rock. Its nice to finally see another band who can take their music-writing very seriously and work hard and put a lot of effort into their songs while still being able to make fun of themselves and not take themselves too seriously, as well as being brilliant live. They have made music amusing, fun, and entertaining again! Sound familiar? PS. Can anyone explain the joke in the title of their christmas song, I don't get it at all! |
scallyuk 15.12.2003 07:08 |
the joke is that they got a whole heap of schoolchildren to sing Bell end and ring peace(piece)and no one has complained. rude slang in UK english |
Brian_Mays_Wig 15.12.2003 07:41 |
They are superb, theyve grown on me. I brough the album and there are some belting riffs on there. Listen to 'Black Shuck' and 'Stuck in a rut' really good rock songs. Its nice to see a band so influenced by Queen, nobody hammered to Foo fighters for liking Queen... If this site was available 10 years ago, Extreme would have been hammered! Just like youre all hammering The Darkness now! |
Rien 15.12.2003 12:06 |
Well, BMW, you don't have to rub our noses into it! :-) |
7Innuendo7 15.12.2003 15:03 |
I believe in a thing called The Darkness... |
Saffron Caribou 15.12.2003 16:18 |
The single is out today in the UK, so lets hope it beats those Pop Idols! |
Uglyduckling 17.12.2003 11:06 |
Yes, theirs is the only single i have ever bought in my life (I usually think its a waste of money) because I really want them to beat pop idol! I still don't get the joke but I swear I am english! |
Teen Queen 17.12.2003 15:56 |
The joke is that 'Bell end' is slang for a part of the male anatomy. |
Brian's sweet sister 18.12.2003 15:18 |
I like IBIATCL, I bought the single, it's great and the guitar solo is excellent. CT(DLTBE) is growing on me. |
dragonzflame 21.12.2003 03:03 |
I like the Christmas song. They're playing it on the shit radio station I have to listen to at work and it's a few minutes of respite from the Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Good Charlotte that predominates. I may even purchase the album if I see it at a time when I've got money. |
SallyJ. 21.12.2003 10:01 |
I much rather hear and see the Darkness who are openly, heavily influenced by Queen (and do a good job at being actually FUNNY, cos they overdo everything) than yet another 'artist/singer' who's all serious, doing a bad cover of a Queensong. |
Mayboy 21.12.2003 10:11 |
Its a great song :) hope its number 1 here in the UK :D the pop idols are currently at number 6 lol |
Mr Mercury 22.12.2003 14:51 |
"Its a great song :) hope its number 1 here in the UK :D the pop idols are currently at number 6 lol" It didnt get there - it was beaten by Gary Jules' version of "Mad World". Its the first in years that I can say I've actually liked the top two christmas songs. |
runy 23.12.2003 03:09 |
Well, I said it was second Queen from the very first time I saw a video of The Darkness. I even thought that the singer had the same bucky teath as Freddie, hehehe. Would be a good topic: is Justin taking after Freddie with his teath? :) |
Rien 24.12.2003 06:32 |
Just saw the video and I must say it's very funny. I thought I even saw the singer slip over the snow when he walked through the front door. I like this song more than when I heard it the first time I must say. But I still hope the guy can do a bit more with his voice than only sing in that high vocal. |
