Okay, this video was clearly over the top, and the outfits bordered on the absurd, but I can't take my eyes off of it for one second. As an American fan, I had never had the chance to see this clip before and, from the brief soundbites I had heard from Roger and Bri, I figured this video was going to be a disaster. But I love it. I think Freddie's character does reflect the meaning of the song. He has it all, with the exception of love. Okay, there was absolutely no point in Roger and John's characters! And the merits of Brian holding the death guitar are debatable. But Freddie was absolutely watchable in every scene. For me, this was a great revelation.
In other GVH2 reflections, I can't believe Roger's harsh criticism of Scandal. The video is quite colorful, even if it doesn't do too much to satire tabloids. But to say the song did nothing for him? I hope Brian wasn't sitting right next to him then. Or maybe he was getting back at Brian for saying he doesn't know why anyone thought Calling All Girls was going to make it as a single.
Come to think of it, the video to Calling All Girls, while obviously low budget and borderline tacky, was fun to watch too. Infinitely better, in my opinion, to Body Language or the live-by-the-numbers Hammer to Fall.
And Invisible Man was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. Doesn't John look clearly better with short hair, as in Scandal or Invisible Man, than he did with that Works-era mop?
All promos are crap. (not just Queen's)
This promo in particular should be enough to pass a 'guilty' sentence on the promo video and give them all a death sentence.
What's wrong with using your own imagination?
'It's A Hard Life' is one awful video to watch. It's so tacky that no wonder why the other members of Queen felt so miserable while making the video. Great to hear Rog and Bri make fun of it.
The ballet part of 'I Want To Break Free' is absolutely the worst.
'Calling All Girls' is so cheesy... especially the part where Freddie says: "This message is...* This message is...*". Brian is right, who the hell thought that song could be a hit. 'Action This Day' had a 100 times more potential to be a hit.
I can understand why 'Scandal' is kinda boring. It's not a bad video, but it could have been better if there was a story played on the video along with those shots of Queen performing.
'Brekthru' is one of their best videos, but I have to say that the last part of the clip where they are all coming out of the tunnel yelling... BREAKTHRU!!, just ruins it.
Well I like to poke fun at that video, because it was cheesy, and it seems that everyone had an awful time doing, except Freddie I reckon.
The best video IMO is Innuendo. Its art! Its innovative. Its wonderful!
But ya gotta give them credit for actually doing these videos. See, back then the technology that we have now was not existant obviously. So I give them credit for creativity, except Back Chat, I dont know what the hell is that all about. And cmon, Roger has a normal drum set in there! We arent that stupid! We know that an electronic drum beat does not come from an normal kit!
