How mad is this, It only seems like yesterday that our mate died! Bloody Hell! For Queen fans that came in much later it might not have as much significance, but to me, I remember the night he died, I was watching the news with my mum and dad and we all burst out crying! I was only 13! Mad! And I got the monday off school! Much to the amusement of my class mates cos they all took the piss for the next few months! They werent taking the piss in April though when Id brought my ticket for the Freddie Tribute and I was gonna watch Queen, GNR and Tallica :)) |

On my website is a RealMedia clip of Freddie's death reported on MTV's The Week In Rock here in the US. I hope it still works...I haven't played it for awhile. When I go home for Christmas I will be getting the original tape to make a higher-quality mpeg. I kept playing it over and over after I recorded it. The part at the end when he looks up and they freeze the video kept making me cry, I guess because it seemed so final. I'm sure most people are used to seeing general "career-retrospective" montages on TV news when someone dies, so seeing him in one was really strange. The reason he meant so much to me was because I was growing up gay in the US, and he was the only person I saw on TV who could be gay and cool at the same time. I didn't actually know he was gay, but knew how flamboyant he was on stage...and I guess the message I got was: If you are rich and/or famous and/or popular enough, there is a chance you can act the way you want and nobody will care. Of course that's a really lousy message for a young person, but that was the world we lived in and it was all the hope I had. So I guess if it wasn't for him, I really don't know if I'd be around today. I was at least in the same building as him when I saw Queen at age 7 (as the story on my site details), but I guess when he died I felt guilty that I'd never get the chance to see him again and thank him. |

Me too was leaving for school when I heard the news, could not believe it, then my classmates confirmed it...too sad...just the day before I saw a big tv special announcing Freddie's illness, though I suspected it since the Slightly mad video.. Today I'm listening to Queen all morning! Rest in peace Freddie |

12 years ago at 6.50 GMT 11.50 EST the world had lost one of the rock music's most original vocalist past to musical heaven. Yet, mourn not for he continues to live on in the music he left us and the hearts of his legions of fans and admirers around the globe from generation to generation forever. RIP |

Yeah I don't remember much either cos I was three. But if I was old enough to know I would have cried, I still feel sad now when I listen to his songs (the sad ones) such as you take my breath away, TSMGO and Mother love with the fact that he couldn't finish singing it because he died so Brian had to finish singing the rest of the song. R.I.P Freddie Miss you :( |

Just been listening to Time & In My Defence - two of Freddie's best ever vocal performances IMHO. Is it really 12 years?? I was 14 at the time, and remember going to school the next day and breaking down in tears during the first lesson. R.I.P. Fred. PS - Hello to everyone, this is my first post on here, though Queen have been my all-time favourite band since 1984 (at the tender age of 7!) |

In the U.S. his revelation and passing was almost ignored. I was dumbstruck; it was so fast I though it was a prank. Sadly it wasn't. Your music and passion of life lives on and with Brian and Roger and all of us. We miss you down here. |

This year, for the first time, it now seems like a long time ago. So much has happened in my life - moved around, different jobs, got married, now getting divorced, lots of travelling around the world, I suddenly thought - all that has happened since Freddie died. I've also been thinking about Freddie's last message to us - where he urged us to fight Aids. I'm pretty sure there's more I could be doing. I had a listen to the Queen Karaoke hits album last night... what did you do? |
Spisso 25.11.2003 09:26 |
I've been listened to Innuendo (the album) 5 times in a row |

Twelve years ago on that night I was driving west on Rt. 926, a two lane road in Chester County, PA. Very dark and fortunately very straight. The DJ broke through & cut what ever song was playing to announce Freddie's passing. In an instant I just locked up my breaks & came to a screeching stop & and just sat there in the middle of road not another car around me. Listening to his report feeling not just numb, but "gut shot." He concluded his report w/ an 8 song set of Queen. Including, You & I & Jealousy. It was truly a horrific night. Only one other night can compare for me. Peace & Music |
