What would do you think if B/R rerecord some early Queen track with Valensia ? |
Kissarmygirl 17.11.2003 06:24 |
If they did that it would be a kinda betray to Montsi & Freddie...IOM |
Queenland 17.11.2003 06:36 |
I have modified my question, I wrote "early classic track" but I meant "early classic Queen track", not classical music :) |
Kissarmygirl 17.11.2003 06:38 |
In that case it could be fun...but still no QUEEN song is a QUEEN song without Freddie and again all this IMO! |
Queenland 17.11.2003 06:47 |
My intention is not to bring the "there is no Queen with without Freddie" war again... I only would like to know what people think of THIS Valensia idea, comparing with "Queen+Five", "Queen+RW" , "Queen+John F", "Queen+Britney", etc. They obviously want to use the name "Queen+somebody", so what about somebody = Valensia ? :-) |
Kissarmygirl 17.11.2003 06:50 |
I am not starting a war i said IMO and u asked what we thought of it right? So i say could be fun but IMO not.... No war....make love not war :) |
YourValentine 17.11.2003 06:52 |
I see no use in re-recording old songs. You want to move on in your life and not re-do what you already did decades ago. I can see no musical challenge in re-recording the old catalogue with other artists. |
Queenland 17.11.2003 07:00 |
I see your point YV, but my idea is that if they release a single with a Queen track under the name of Queen+Valensia , and people like it, maybe this could lead to the recording of new music with Valensia. To me, the guy captured the Queen spirit perfectly and certainly could inspire the guys to make the style of music we like, the good old Queen style ! |
YourValentine 17.11.2003 07:20 |
I understand what you mean, Henrique, but I just think it's impossible to re-create the "Queen spirit" if you only find a like-minded musician(even if the remaining Queen members wanted to re-create this spirit). The group was a lucky coincidence and it's gone, no matter how much we may regret it. Brian and Roger are very good musicians/songwriters and they have all the options, money and means to do whatever they want but unfortunately, new songs are not high up on their priority list which is a shame. I think "Invincible Hope" is a great song because it does not aim to sound like Queen, it's a true Roger song and it's awesome. |
Queenland 17.11.2003 08:38 |
Yes, IH is good, and has Treana on it. Since they are working with other artists lately, I think that Valensia would be an excellent choice to invite to do something. His ideas for arrangements are incredible - on "I'm In Love With My Car", for example, I can hear an imaginary duet of Kate Bush with Freddie ! I think they CAN create a huge hit with him, and go back to the charts with new material ... influenced by someone who is influenced ... by themselves ! |
Vim Fuego 17.11.2003 09:58 |
" but I just think it's impossible to re-create the "Queen spirit" " I think Valensia did a pretty good job on his tribute album recreating that spirit, listen to My Fairy King... |
YourValentine 17.11.2003 10:45 |
Henrique, I would be the first to welcome a cooperation of Brian/Roger with Valensia or any other artist to create something new, I just don't think they should keep re-recording their old material. |

Allright then :-) |

Maz 17.11.2003 11:57 |
I don't think they are capable of creating the "old Queen sound." They may do songs that sound familiar, but I think things have evolved for them so much that its impossible to re-create something that sounds classic. Invincible Hope is a great song, although it is a bit repetitive. I think it bodes well for Brian and Roger, and I would enthusiasticly support any new material. But these attmepts to re-do old stuff is getting boring. |
Pim Derks 17.11.2003 13:06 |
Hello there, the biggest Valensia on QZ (I think :-)) is here.... Well, I mailed with Valensia some time ago and he said he was hoping to get in contact with Brian & Roger... Haven't mailed to him in a long time, but I can always try & ask :-) |
Andrew Paul 18.11.2003 04:06 |
There has been much in the way of rumour as to the possibility of QUeen plus new lead singer. Jeff Scott Soto being mentioned. However, I tend to the view that if it going to happen ( and that's a different ball game), then Valensia is the right man for the position. Simple as that. A good source informs me that a copy of his Tribute album has gone to Messrs May and Taylor....we can but wait and see. |
Pim Derks 18.11.2003 06:37 |
Indeed, Valensia would definitely be fit for the job. He writes excellent songs, some in the Queen-tradition and some in his own style (which is great too :-)) and he isn't THAT wellknown, so it wouldn't be "Queen + Well-Known Singer"... Plus, a collaboration with Queen would finally give Valensia the appreciation he deserves - he's definitely underrated at this moment... If any of you can't find Valensia songs online - contact me, I can give you some samples... I know Valensia is ok with his music being downloaded - he even mentioned it in his Gaia 2 booklet! Of course, I also bought all of his cd's :-) Next month will see the release of the Metal Majesty (Valensia's new band) cd - I hope it sounds like the track The Moon on Luna Luna, his mini-album from 2 years ago :-P |
Mr. Scully 18.11.2003 06:56 |
"he said he was hoping " Thanks Pim for putting me out of my misery. Finally I know that Valensia is He and not She. Until now I had big doubts :-) |
queenboot 18.11.2003 07:23 |
what i had in my mind was.... that Valensina is a german orange juice..... |

"he said he was hoping " Thanks Pim for putting me out of my misery. Finally I know that Valensia is He and not She. Until now I had big doubts :-) fuck, I thought it was a chick too, that name sounds so girlish. |
Plengel 18.11.2003 09:25 |
Have you ever seen a picture of him? ;) But he makes really good music :) I really like the collaborations he did with Robby Valentine. |
Simmer 18.11.2003 11:41 |
Well, I like Valensia... he made some good music I think. Same goes for Robby Valentine, why not try it with those guys. It's better than Soto or that famous Australian singer (forget his name). I know it's not Queen, but it's better than those crap pop stars. |
Pim Derks 18.11.2003 13:03 |
Well, Valensia has just cut off most of his hair, so you won't mistake him for a girl anymore ;-) I think that IF Brian and Roger want to work with a new vocalist, Valensia is thé choice - he is not well-known (Gaia was only a big hit in NL + Asia I think) (so people won't say "hey, didn't he used to sing [insert title]" and he has an excellent voice + great songwriting talent. However, I seriously doubt Brian and Roger want to write/record music with Valensia... They seem more interested in the damn musical... Howver, I REALLY, REALLY hope Brian listens to the cd (I doubt Roger will even care to put it in his cd-player) and that Brian will like Valensia... I doubt there'll be a Queen + Valensia record or similar, but I'd love to see Brian & Valensia work together - two great artists, two brilliant guitarplayers, 1 brilliant singer (V) & 1 a bit less brilliant singer (BM) :-P... Brian always has worked with all kinds of artists, so let's hope he doesn't mind doing some stuff with Valensia :-P Paul - if you like Valensia so much, why didn't you buy the KOSMOS album? It's hard to get these days... I wonder how much money the recordcompany lost on that record - it was/is the most expensive record recorded in the Netherlands (I think it cost somewhere around 250,000-300,000 dollar to make - and it didn't exactly set the charts alight :-)).... Well, it seems that good music just doesn't sell these days... |
Pim Derks 18.11.2003 13:08 |
"Ok... my question here is... Who's Valensia??? Don't know anything about him" Check link. He's a Dutch artist, who had a quite major hit in 1993 with Gaia. After that most (well, all ;-)) of his records flopped, due to bad promotion & a change in the music-industry. He still releases stuff - his last cd was a Queen Tribute, released in May of this year. He writes in all kinds of styles, reggae (The Sun), pop (Thunderbolt), metal (The Moon), Queen II style (Mercurian Mystery March) etc. etc. Some people blame him for sounding to similar to Queen/Freddie - even when his first album was recorded in 1993 his recordcompany did everything they could to make it sound as un-Queeny as possible, to avoid the "Queen-ripoff" label... Contact me @ webmaster@pimderks.com for some mp3's. |

Very interesting!! |

d'oh! :P |

A collab between Queen & Valensia would be much better than those done with Five,RW,John Farnham etc. That I'm sure off! A collab with Valentine would be interesting too IMHO :-) Valentine and Valensia have some stuff in common in their music and style, though they still remain different in their own music. I'm very curious what Valentine's new album will sound like! Release Feb. 2004. Note: Valentine was support-act for Brian in 1993 and is also a huge Queen fan. His early work is quite rock-opera style. Later work has more pop. Robby Valentine: link |

Just downloaded some valensia stuff. Quite amazing! okay I'm in |
Brian_Mays_Wig 19.11.2003 13:09 |
VALENSIA IS DOG SHIT WANK....Thats all I have to say. |
Pim Derks 19.11.2003 15:30 |
Why do you think that? You can say a lot of things about Valensia, but not that he is not talented... You may not like his music but... |
uri 19.11.2003 19:45 |
After hearing Valensias versions of Boh Rhap, My fairy king and Man from manhattan I think calling Valensia dog shit wank is calling Queen dog shit wank this is download at Valensias website and only can say: INCREDIBLE!!! take that, robbie williams!!! |

I was kinda hoping he was a chick.... |
uri 20.11.2003 02:11 |
My older brother had Queen II when I was little, and I thought Freddie was a chick too. Even after looking at Killer Queen I still thought he is a chick! By the way Valensia is a groupsname, in case the name is confusion for a chicksname. His real name is Byron Clarkson |
Pim Derks 20.11.2003 06:24 |
BTW, the European edition of the Queen Tribute will include an a capella version of YTMBA. |
Brian_Mays_Wig 21.11.2003 02:56 |
The guy needs to be a bit more original, rather than copy everything Queen did. Thats why I said, and still think that hes DOG SHIT WANK. A Fucking rip off merchant. |
Daniel Duret 21.11.2003 04:51 |
Well.. actually.. Valensia doesn't really copy Queen...and if you're referring to the Queen tribute album...DUH!!! But anyway..Valensia definatly has the Queen-sound, but that is not copying... there are other artists who sound Queen-ish, but thats just the music-genre... because to say Queen's music is unique thats pretty arrogant..it's recognizable as Queen, thats for sure... Ow, and I'm not trying to bring Queen down (they rock ass!) but I just tried to make a point..so I hope I did :) peace! |
Plengel 21.11.2003 05:55 |
Cool, an A Capella verstion of "You Take My Breath Away" on the European Queen Tribute! Guess I will be buying that CD too :) I love the version of "Liar" on that CD. Imagine he wanted it to be more like "Bohemian Rhapsody", but didn't had enough time to perfect it. BTW, My signed Japanes Queen Tribute CD Booklet is on it's way back to Holland :) Yeah! I've been waiting since june for this :) |
Pim Derks 21.11.2003 06:03 |
"Imagine he wanted it to be more like "Bohemian Rhapsody", but didn't had enough time to perfect it." He also planned to include Somebody To Love - which wás recorded I think... The original plan was to include a Queen version of "Green" from the FM boxset, but that got cancelled because Valensia thought it was unreleased (so that it would be hard with royalties etc) - I told him it WAS released officially and he said he might record it :-P BTW Paul, I already told you the package was sent yesterday from Spain, right? Let's hope it doesn't take 3.5 months to get back here :-P |
Plengel 21.11.2003 06:53 |
Ah so now he is planning to record it anyway. I thought he put that idea aside. Well, if he needs some help with it (like putting some extra vocals in) I'm glad to help :P Yeah, you're right about the package, Pim, but once the package is outside of Spanish borders, I think it'll go very fast ;) |
