I know many people have discussed who(if any) can replace Freddie, but I was thinking who(if any)could replace John. Here's my short list and feel free to add on... Tony Levin(Peter Gabriel,King Crimson) John Paul Jones(Led Zepplin) Glen Matlock(Sex Pistols) Bill Wyman(Rolling Stones) John Wetton(King Crimson,Asia) |
Brian's sweet sister 15.11.2003 16:57 |
What? Everyone knows you can't replace an individual person, ESCPECIALLY one from Queen. They wouldn't write as good songs and stuff. |
Sonja 15.11.2003 16:58 |
No, I don't think so. No one can replace John. No one could ever replace any one in the band. It would never be the same. Queen were Brian, Roger, John and Freddie and anything else would not be Queen anymore. At least that's what I think. |
MexQueenFM 15.11.2003 17:01 |
yep, nobody can replace them, if somebody could Brian and Rog would have done it already IMO |
Mr Coolest Cat 15.11.2003 17:03 |
John Wetton(Asia)great bassist,great songwriter,and a much better voice than JD. |
Brian's sweet sister 15.11.2003 17:08 |
I may hold you to that because I never have actually heard John sing, but John's probably a better songwriter IMO and I think that's a good ability for a bassist to have. |
FriedChicken 15.11.2003 17:17 |
John can be replaced as a bassplayer, That bassplayed who played on Amandla is very good, and sounds a lot like John, i wonder who he is |
FriedChicken 15.11.2003 17:19 |
but i don't think they should replace John...They should have Neil on live shows, and Brian can do it himself in the studio, like he did on most songs of Another World, and Roger could play bass aswell |
Brian's sweet sister 15.11.2003 17:32 |
I can't really tell if a bass player is excellent or not because you don't hear them as much as the rest of the group, thay just have to be able to play bass guitar, but JD was definitley though cos he wrote some brilliant songs. |
dnmoriarty 15.11.2003 17:37 |
I completely agree neither John nor Freddie can be replaced, but my idea was just to have 'what-if' lineup like(ex.) George Michael or Robble Williams on vocals. It's all in fun and imagination. |
Matti 16.11.2003 01:00 |
I don't think they should replace him. |
Lester Burnham 16.11.2003 01:09 |
While I think Deacon is a very talented bass guitarist and songwriter, he can be easily replaced. You have to look at it logically and not as a Stepford: what Deacon played was good, but it wasn't impossible. If you sat down and listened to what John Entwistle, Jack Bruce, John Paul Jones, or Chris Squire played, it might be impossible to replace them. Unfortunately, in the annals of rock music, bass guitarists seem to be the easiest to replace, at least in some of the more talented and challenging bands: case in point, Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones, who played on about 50% of the band's output - the other 50% was played by Ron Wood, Keith Richards, Mick Taylor, or session musicians, and there's little to no difference (I still like Wyman better). To stray off course, the biggest task that's facing Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey right now is replacing John Entwistle. They just recorded a song with Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, so this question particularly interests me. But I really can't come up with any particular bassist, as they all have styles unlike Deacon (good or bad, you take your choice). |
Uglyduckling 16.11.2003 07:21 |
But LB, what about John's little Deaky dances?! I know Queen are not the same without Freddie and John, but I can't think that replacing one or both of them would make the situation any better (would it not make them seem even more like an entirely different group?). I can't imagine them ever trying to replace John Deacon. He is still alive! |
Simmer 16.11.2003 09:18 |
Paul McCartney... LOL!! |
Lester Burnham 16.11.2003 12:14 |
Well yeah, Deacon being alive is a different situation. But the way it is now, Brian seems pretty happy in turning Queen into The Brian May Band featuring Roger Taylor with the cast of "We Will Rock You". |
*the Time Guardian* 16.11.2003 12:24 |
In my opinion, they shouldn't be replaced at all :P Queen died with Freddie |
Vim Fuego 16.11.2003 12:32 |
My vote is for Robbie Williams :) |
siljeoen 16.11.2003 16:12 |
You can't just replace John!!-He's the one and only!!!! |
Fenderek 16.11.2003 16:22 |
Jason Newsted :-) |
[StArMaN] 16.11.2003 16:31 |
I agree with Harvey Goldsmith , John Wetton is a perfect choice and his songs could blend really well with Queen ones... |
pouria 16.11.2003 16:32 |
first of all John can be replaced as a bassist, playing bass doesn't need that much skills.you may find someone else to play with roger and bri. but here is another point of view that john Deacon is John deacon, it will be disloyalty to replace your bandmate, someone who has been playing with you for 27 years.i think that's not right after all, none of those people that you mentioned as a choice would take john's position( no offense). give me a good reason that they would say yes to your request. |
FriedChicken 16.11.2003 21:07 |
"playing bass doesn't need that much skills.you may find someone else to play with roger and bri." Thats just bullshit. And note that John wasn't just a bassplayer, I think he wrote much better basslines then 95% of the bassists out there. Most players just play the bassnote of the chord, with a fill sometimes, or just play the same tune the guitar makes. But John played and wrote a lot of wonderful melodic lines, sometimes very emotional lines like Jealousy, or These are the days. Don't underestimate our deaky! |
Saffron Caribou 16.11.2003 21:36 |
Can we please leave Deaky ALONE! |
Big Black 16.11.2003 21:59 |
John created basslines like UP & AOBTD, arguably two of rock's most recognizeable basslines and played beautifully for the song, that's why replacing him (in this totally imaginary scenario as Brian and Roger have created an industry out of hinting at playing live for about 7 years now)wouldn't be easy. |
Kissarmygirl 17.11.2003 03:02 |
Gene $immon$ JK!!!!!!!!! i dont think that any member of QUEEN should be replaced! |
crash 17.11.2003 03:36 |
Queen without freddie won't be Queen....but an holdup... |
killerqueen85 17.11.2003 05:01 |
I just thought that Gene and whole Queen would be look cool in the masks. :-) I think that Deacon John who played on their first album should play with em :-) |
fat bottomed girl 7238 17.11.2003 05:26 |
Don't forget "Staying Power" Milton Keynes '82.... JOHN ROCKED !!!! I just think it is a shame that JD has cut all ties with Brian and Roger...Ok, so he dosn't want to do any new stuff - But the fact remains his commentary and interveiws would have been great on the GVH 1&2 dvds...He was part of Queen and will be part of Queen forever - it's just a pity he has turned his back on his fans. C'mon would a little interveiw hurt now and again - or a bit of promo work for things that is still making him a good 5+ million quid a year. GET YOUR ARSE OFF THE BEACH JOHN FBG!!! |
Dances With Freddie 17.11.2003 05:33 |
John could NEVER be replaced. John Deacon forever!!! |
Kissarmygirl 17.11.2003 06:22 |
*I just thought that Gene and whole Queen would be look cool in the masks.* Way too funny!!!!!!! |
Lawyeris 17.11.2003 07:34 |
I think John Deacon could be replaced by...Deacon John, who successfully played with Queen in 1973 at The Golders Green show:) and recorded an album - Queen II. |
rogut 17.11.2003 08:32 |
Whiolst i agree that John shouldn't be replaced, If Brian and Roger are loking for a bassist to play with, how about the guy (Can't remember his name) from Frankie Goes to Hollywood....ok, i know they were a flash-in-the-pan, but the bass riff on Two Tribes is Awesome !! |
sexmachine 17.11.2003 10:26 |
john deacon, shine on you crazy diamond! |
FriedChicken 17.11.2003 11:40 |
I think John Deacon could be replaced by...Deacon John, who successfully played with Queen in 1973 at The Golders Green show:) and recorded an album - Queen II queen I! |
Starchild 17.11.2003 12:08 |
i'm sure people could *play* the bass parts perfectly well...but they still wouldn't be our Deaky. If you keep replacing people eventually you end up with a completley different band (naming no names) |
Spisso 18.11.2003 21:25 |
No one can replace him, sorry... |
akindofmagic 19.11.2003 21:46 |
a good bassist for the place would be Roger waters!! then Brian and Roger could stop worry about writing music because Mr. waters would do the whole work8and would not allow the others to write a single note)lol! John Paul Jones is a fab Rock Bass player, and a good songwriter. Dave Stewart could be a good bass Player as well. Kirst Novoselic(former Nirvana) as no job,as far as i know. Mike Moran could Play Keyboard Bass(and he is a fantastic songwriter). |
akindofmagic 19.11.2003 21:49 |
oh, almost forgot, but the bass player that i want isn JOHN DEACON! Please Deacy, come back.. i miss your songs! |
RainMustFall 20.11.2003 15:43 |
Starchild, is there a deeper-ple meaning to your comment, there? |
Cool Cat 22.11.2003 07:14 |
Oh shit, all this crap again??? No one can replace anyone because every person is an individual with different quality, and I'm talking in general here. All this crap about who should replace Freddie or John is getting me sick and tired |
iGSM 22.11.2003 07:45 |
I think the important question is...who should replace Brian? tee-hee, just kidding. |
Mr Coolest Cat 22.11.2003 07:52 |
Not sure if some of you are just taking the piss but, Deacon John from QueenI is John Deacon who played on all the other albums, amazing what happens when you re-arrange the name. Anyway enjoy your retirement John, you bloody deserve. |
Mr Mercury 22.11.2003 08:31 |
Yes Harvey they are taking the piss. As for Deaky, he may not be the most technically gifted player in the world but in my opinion he had a sound, passion and feeling that was all him and ultimately part of Queen. Amen |
Stephan 22.11.2003 09:44 |
Gail Ann Dorsey. I saw her lately at a Bowie-concert in Cologne. She's a great bass player and an awesome singer as well. |
The Real Wizard 23.11.2003 01:18 |
"I can't really tell if a bass player is excellent or not because you don't hear them as much as the rest of the group." Depends on the band. Pick up a Rush album and tell me the same thing! "it's just a pity he has turned his back on his fans" What rulebook says that John Deacon has to do anything else? He has maintained that without Freddie, there is no Queen. Therefore, his role in Queen is over, so respect it, and move on. The Queen name can still exist and be used for whatever Brian and Roger would like to use it for, but the 4-piece band called Queen ceases to exist. Next topic please. "playing bass doesn't need that much skills.you may find someone else to play with roger and bri." Yeah, I have to agree that this is complete bullshit. Deaky is most definitely an under-rated bassist. As Niek already pointed out, Deaky always went far beyond playing just the tonic note of the chord, and made the bass such an interesting addition to a song. With no disrespect implied, but with all logic... who is easier to replace? John Deacon or Freddie Mercury? Let's all think for a second, and realize that as talented and inventive John was, Freddie is the one who is absolutely irreplaceable on all levels. |
Spisso 24.11.2003 05:49 |
Totally agree |
