Its obvious Brian set Fred up in that film and made him look like he was nearly going to spilt the band up which is utter rubbish. |
Deaky. 22.03.2020 18:12 |
85% of the votes and the fans know Brian was unfair letting the film make Freddie out to be the bad guy. May & Taylor are a disgrace since they class Freddie as a special friend but you just do not do those things to special friends do you ! |
Freddie Jupiter 22.03.2020 20:54 |
^^^^ Very true. I'm a firm believer in the principle that one should never judge people by what they say, but rather by what they actually do. |
Saint Jiub 22.03.2020 22:10 |
I hope this poll is accurate, and represents QZ opinion about Freddie's questional portrayal in the movie. However, this poll is not reliable and encourages ballot box stuffing. |
Freddie Jupiter 22.03.2020 23:18 |
There probably is some ballot stuffing but I believe it does represent the general sentiment quite accurately. Certainly the sheer number of people who have pointed this out in reviews of the film makes me believe that. |
Saint Jiub 23.03.2020 00:23 |
I wonder if the "man of many banned accounts" stuffed the ballot box. |
Freddie Jupiter 23.03.2020 00:51 |
Did the "man of many banned accounts" also write all those film reviews that point out how the film makes Brian look great at Freddie's expense? Is Sharon Osbourne also "The man of many banned accounts". Lilke I said, the sentiment expressed in this poll is quite consistent with the sentiments expressed on many other sites, social media, or otherwse. |

I agree that Freddie got fucked by the biased portrayal in the movie |

Freddie Jupiter wrote: There you go. As I said, it's an exceedingly common percepion. How come it's now swung the other way? |
Deaky. 23.03.2020 08:37 |
Because the voting has gone the other way Many Queen fans are just taking the piss because the evidence in the film is there it accuses Freddie of been the first Queen member to go solo no mention of the true fact that Roger was the first Queen member to do a solo project. Freddie also did not meet Jim Hutton in a hotel he met him in a bar. |
Freddie Jupiter 23.03.2020 08:50 |
Rock chick, how come it has swung the other way? Because people have suddenly realised that it's true that Freddie was a bumbling idiot who begged Brian (the true mastermind of Queens success) to have mercy on him and let him back into queen. It will even be written about in the new, improved biography of queen which will feature never before revealed true historical insights and will be co-authored by Brian to be released in 2022. |
Deaky. 23.03.2020 08:56 |
Brian manipulated the film the same as he has manipulated the band now. |
Freddie Jupiter 23.03.2020 09:00 |
@millionaire waltz. There is no doubt about it. The film has Brian May's revenge written all over it. |
Deaky. 23.03.2020 09:27 |
@FreddieJupiter 100% agreed ! |
HelloDelilah 23.03.2020 23:40 |
Current results (pretty close ratings): How was Freddie depicted in the Queen movie? In a way that made Brian look better at Freddie's expense. (84 votes) 48.0% Perfectly objectively; exactly as he was in real life. (91 votes) 52.0% |
ITSM 24.03.2020 00:57 |
In the movie, "he" is so serious - almost boring (what happend to Never make me boring?). The biggest mistake, I think, is that there are almost only milestones, not many small situations with normal conversations... |
Freddie Jupiter 24.03.2020 01:20 |
The movie wasn't about Freddie. The movie was about how Freddie joined Brian's brilliant band and how Brian worked quietly in the background to mastermind queens success while Freddie basked in the glory, did drugs, got drunk and started fights. Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to make a film about Freddie, and he got fired by Brian. I think that says it all. |
Freddie Jupiter 24.03.2020 08:47 |
Also let's not forget that Brian wanted Freddie to die in the middle of the movie and he wanted the second half to be about how the band went from strength to strength with Brian at the helm. Presumably most of the second half was going to feature Adam Lambert. Whoever managed to talk him out of it is a bloody genius of persuasion. That's for sure. |
Nathan H 24.03.2020 12:30 |
Brian and Roger would've had very little say on the movie content. It was down to the film companies to do it. At the end of the day, Brian and Roger signed off the movie as did John and Mary Austin - if they hadn't then the movie won't've been released. Just accept that the "movie" not the "documentary" got released to your disliking and there's nothing you can do about it. It's clear that you are Freddie fan and in no way a Queen fan because I've never heard you say anything negative about Freddie or anything positive about the other Queen members. |
Freddie Jupiter 24.03.2020 21:48 |
Yeah, right . The movie companies wanted to make Freddie looks like a bumbling idiot while glorifying Brian. They also for some reason wanted to make a movie about Freddie where Freddie only features for half the movie and then it's about how Brian continues to mastermind queens success without Freddie. How stupid can you people get? |
AlbaNo1 24.03.2020 22:44 |
Did Sacha Baron Cohen leave because of differences with Brian....this is what I picked up from the media Is Jim Beach a producer on the film? It looks like the remaining Queen organisation had at least had a veto or influence on the content. |

Freddie Jupiter 24.03.2020 23:18 |
According to Cohen he left because a certain band member (Brian May) did not like the amount of focus Cohen wanted on Freddie to the detriment of the other band members. And yes, Brian and Roger, had veto. More than that they had input into the content of the movie and the general direction of the movie. |
Invisible Woman 25.03.2020 07:42 |
The movie is bad and his character is not done well, looks like some caricature. |
Deaky. 25.03.2020 12:58 |
@Invisible Woman I agree they poke fun at Freddie with the way they used the teeth and the way Rami Malek pouts trying to get his mouth over the teeth, all very rude and nasty and to be honest it looked more like Mick Jagger than our Freddie. |

Rami was excellent as Freddie. he nailed most of his mannerisms/affectations. |

I think he did perform on stage very good as Freddie but in the early Freddie years he did look a bit fake, |
Freddie Jupiter 25.03.2020 22:07 |
To me Maleks depiction of early Freddie is about 50% Mick Jagger, 30% Austin Powers, 10% Mr Bean and 10% Freddie. Basically the result is a goofy, slightly dim-witted guy who bumbles his way through a vacuous and irresponsible life. In real life Freddie oozed charisma and wit. He had this almost intangible presence, like the Mona Lisa-- it was an almost mystical experience to watch him, and none of that comes across from Malek's performance. There is an interview with all four of them from about 76 I think, and the interviewer basically seems to only want to hear Freddie's responses. Whenever Brian interjects with some response the interview seems bored and thrusts the microphone towards Freddie to ask him yet another question. The envy on Brian's face is palpable. |

Enigma wrote:I think he did perform on stage very good as Freddie but in the early Freddie years he did look a bit fake,i'd suggest you go back and look at the early stuff - Rainbow, SSOR, Liar, KYA, KQ promos and TOTP. Rami nailed early Freddie. Freddie Jupiter wrote:There is an interview with all four of them from about 76 I think, and the interviewer basically seems to only want to hear Freddie's responses. Brenski, the video is called "Queen interview Perth 1976" it's on YouTube. Watch the whole thing, and notice also how the cameraman loves Freddie and pretty much ignores the rest of the band. |
brENsKi 25.03.2020 22:44 |
he doesn't ignore the rest of the band. and anyhow, Freddie was front man so and interviewers will gravitate to a front man. this is no different with Jagger, Dickinson, Elliot and others. i'll give you one thing: you imagination is fertile beyond belief. how are you getting on with proving 9/11 never happened? |
Freddie Jupiter 25.03.2020 23:02 |
I never said he ignored the the rest if the band. I said the cameraman seemed to love Freddie (count how long and how often Freddie is in the frame alone compared to Brian). Also notice how much more intersted the interviewer seems to be in Freddie compared to the rest. In fact he seems more intersted in Roger and John than in Brian. Of course he's not going to ignore the rest of the band -- that would be downright rude. |
Deaky. 26.03.2020 11:17 |
Yes Freddie had that charisma to make anyone who interviewed him seem magnetic. I cannot understand anyone wanting to know more about Fred than the others after all Freddie was the most interesting of the four. |
brENsKi 26.03.2020 13:52 |
SaddleBrownso Freddie had a mystical power to make other people more attractive? how exactly, does that work? SaddleBrownmy head is still melting from this one. so you are stating a contradictory reason for an interviewer NOT wanting to talk to Fred? bizarre. |
Deaky. 26.03.2020 15:56 |
I didnt say Freddie had the mystical power to make other people more attractive, where did that come from then? Second part of your asks, yeah i made a little mistake there it should have said : "I CAN understand anyone wanting to know more about Freddie than the others after all he was the most interesting of the four" Sorry for the confusion there, me in a rush earlier ! |
brENsKi 26.03.2020 16:23 |
SaddleBrownread your post again (see below). your first statement clearly implies Freddie made other people magnetic. - that in itself is one hell of a superpower. SaddleBrown |
Deaky. 26.03.2020 16:41 |
what i was saying there was Freddie was a magnetic character and people were attracted by that quality he had. The other band members never had that sort of attraction. |
