Bit of fun here, but if I was a filmmaker, I would've done it this way.
Turn it into a proper R-rated HBO series. With cussing, proper arguments, drug use, sex scenes. We see Freddie break the mirror over whathisface's head and all the times he was a proper bitch. Plus the orgies. We see Roger spray hairspray in Brian's face and trash his kit. Plus his affairs. We see Brian's decline into depression and divorce. We see John launch his bass into the amps and his decline into alcoholism.
Season 1: The Early Years (<1975)
Tells the story of each member's background, including childhood, early bands and everything that lead to the formation of the group. Freddie's childhood is explored, his family struggles and move to London. We focus on Brian building the Red Special. Roger's and John's stories also dramatised. We also see the pre-bands, including Smile and everything to the lead-up of Queen. Struggles with Trident and their determination to hit the big time. The season climaxes with the success of Bohemian Rhapsody and ANATO in the UK.
Season 2: The Classic Years (1976-1980)
Tells the story of the band's international success throughout the 70s. The main focus is Queen trying to make it big in the States, with the season climaxing with the success of Another One Bites the Dust and The Game.
Season 3: The Troubled Years (1981-1986)
Tells the story of the band's fall from grace in the US, as well as Freddie's debauched lifestyle in the early 80s. The band struggle with musical direction. Solo careers. The season climaxes with the Live Aid performance and the ensuing Magic Tour. Cliffhanger is Freddie going in for HIV check...
Season 4: The Final Years (1987-1998)
Tells the story of Freddie's declining health and death, the final albums and the aftermath. Brian's divorce. The Cross. The season and series basically end with No-One But You as the final chapter in the Queen story. An epilogue is included that touches upon the musical, Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert (and possibly EVEN THE MOVIE).
I’d watch it....but then again I watch pretty much any Queen stuff! : ) It actually is a really nice outline though, I think it would be interesting. I like how you divided out the seasons. I wonder if Ryan Murphy would do it....similar to his American Crime stories (like the OJ Simpson and Gianni Versace ones) but extended out as a dramatic series. I’m not sure if there are enough obsessed fans to watch the whole thing and justify the cost? I wonder how Brian would react...guessing he would try and squelch it.
