I used to love listening to Tommy Vance on a Friday and Saturday nights.I had to listen with my headphones on as I was only young and parents thought I was asleep. He had a great voice for the radio and Queen were often played along with Led Zep,Floyd,The Who and Deep Purple. He also gave a lot of airtime to new bands. What a mess Radio 1 is now.If I do listen to the radio now I tune into Planet Rock.

me too. I listened to FRS from Christmas 78 through to early 1980 - at that point I started going to the Valley Rock Night - at our local football club, in Redditch.
Then, around 83, I picked up the FRS again, by which time several of the bands that I'd seen at the Valley were doing sessions on TV's show: Cryer (hugely underrated) being a personal fave.
Tommy, used to do these ""listeners" top10s - every year, and these were usually fairly predictable.
An offshoot from this was our local independent BRMB - did something similar over a May bank holiday in the mid-80s - only there's was a top 100 classic rock tunes. I remember it being played over three successive nights.
Then Planet Rock did something similar about 10 years ago.
One of my favourite tunes "Stargazer" always featured very high up these "listener charts". Vance also did the MC at the Monsters of Rock @ Donington in 81 (I was there) for AC/DC, 'Snake, BOC, oh and Slade singing "Merry Xmas" in August!
I can't remember the Who being on all that much - if ever.
I too am a Planet Rock listener, it's always great to hear Alice share a few late night stories.
I like all the Hosts on there, but I still haven't managed a win on Rock Legends yet!

I used to listen to Planet Rock, but it became a little too predictable. Even the few times I still tune in, it's playing the same old playlists.
My listening - really since my first combined DAB/Internet Radio purchase link
- a Magic Box Clarus , back in 2006? have been US internet radio stations. I find the playlists are more diverse.
I like to listen to 3 in New England:
The Pike, The Wolf and i95 WRKI.
There's also a couple of California stations I listen to.
These days that set is in our garage and only gets an outing when pottering around or through the garden speakers, and I tend to use Hama DIR3115 and my Pioneer X-HM81 wifi Stereo as my main radios.
I use a Pure Dab+ set to receive Planet Rock, internet radio is not something that appeals to me although I appreciate the wide range of channels available.
I'm old school, still listen to and record BBC radio via analogue FM and a roof top aerial and try to steer clear of Wi Fi as much as possible.
