As every fan known, it's possible that the Thank God It's Christmas single started out as a Man On The Prowl single, with 12" extended mixes for both the A and B sides already finished. However, Queen later decided to record a Christmas single and make that the A side instead, with the MOTP single moved to the B side. I think the cover was the same during both phases of the release, and MOTP got some airplay to promote The Works album in the US on the "Rock Over London" radio show. Is Man On The Prowl a good A-side or not? |

Much like "Scandal" (extended version), I wouldn't consider TGIC (extended version) official. They're both Hollywood Records versions that released later on and without direct involvement from the band.

I really like The Works for some reason even though it doesn't have many songs I love compared to the AKOM album. I think TW is my favourite 80s Queen album if someone could tell me how that would be useful. Am I the only person on here who doesn't like Princes Of The Universe? I’m not as huge a fan of the 80s albums, for me they are good but not what I listen to regularly. Although of all of them I listen to Innuendo the most. I don’t consider The Game part of the 80s really, they are still in good form on that one. I agree that as of The Works Freddie’s voice just didn’t have the versatility and range it once did...and the songs get more simple (generalizing here, there are still some individual gems but not really the Freddie compositions). I like Princes of the Universe, I don’t listen to it much because it is on AKOM and that is one of my least favorite albums. |

However, One Vision, Pain Is So Close To Pleasure, Gimme The Prize and Princes Of The Universe are songs that I don't like as much or rarely listen to in comparison to other songs on the album. If I liked just a couple more songs on the album I'd rank the album a lot more.brENsKi wrote:I agree on all counts. FWBF has a great outro, particularly the guitar. |

Pain is so close to pleasure and Don't lose your head are among the worst Queen songs ever- only topped by Rain Must Fall, My Baby does me and Party/Khashoggis SHip. Easily the 2 worst Queen albums for me I also thought that Princes was written by Brian when it was released. A very unusual "Heavy Rock" Song by Freddie. Gimme The Prize is lame in comparison. Too contrived and by numbers |

I can agree in general Runner, for me those songs are subpar for Queen...with that being said a subpar Queen song was still better than the vast majority on the radio at the time, and 100% better than anything I hear on the radio now! Save for Pain is So Close to Pleasure, I really don’t like that song, worst one by Queen in my opinion. The falsetto Freddie, the formulaic backing beat....yikes! I can get into Don’t Lose Your Head, I think if they had just been more creative with the lyrics on that it would have been a good song. |

And PISCTP is a silly rewrite of that DIana Ross song |

I like KPTOW a lot, great song. Brenski, do you know the timing of that song vs. the release of Stepping Out? I always wondered why KPTOW had such a familiar sound and that is definitely it! |
