About bloody time! Well done Roger! Brian is a CBE. John next hopefully! |
mooghead 28.12.2019 10:30 |
Didn't think Roger would be the sort to accept pointless trinkets from the establishment... |
stevelondon20 28.12.2019 12:38 |
You never know Rob, he may refuse it! |
dysan 28.12.2019 13:06 |
They should make him a Dame just for lolz. |
splicksplack 28.12.2019 13:30 |
These days I think once it is made public then it has already been accepted. They put out the feelers first to see whether it will be accepted or not to avoid embarrassment. Bowie was offered a CBE and a knighthood and it was made clear he was not interested. |

Rog's anti-establishment credentials have only ever been skin deep. He's like a rebellious teenager who became a rock star, got rich, and then never had to be a grown up. He's still basically a rebellious teenager with all the hypocrisy, contradiction, and embarrassment that comes with that. |
cmsdrums 28.12.2019 15:49 |
About time!!! For both his musical and charity contributions this should have happened a long time ago. |

And I love it, as, IMHO, that is a huge part of his kind of "rock 'n roll naivety", or simplicity, which renders great basic but solid rocker tunes. Lately, in the other hand, I would say he also delivered some sparse great deeper stuff, out of which Journey's End stands out. Cheers, Ogre- |
stevelondon20 28.12.2019 17:12 |
Journey's End is fantastic! |
Thistle 28.12.2019 19:37 |
He'll be off for a bit of fox hunting afterwards. |
princetom 28.12.2019 22:28 |

- don't forget Paul Weller and George Harrison! - also famous 'refusees'. |
dysan 29.12.2019 10:00 |
J G Ballard too who was more rock n roll than any of them. My initial response was that Taylor is a total fraud accepting this. But then I thought I can't stay mad at him. What an adventure he's had. Enjoy the spoils of our empiric Ruritanian charade my friend. |

I can't really blame anyone from accepting a merit badge though I find it silly, believe that monarchy is stupid and am perplex that they still use a name that refers to a genocidal colonial entity which has luckily been wiped out. |
dysan 29.12.2019 17:36 |
But we all enjoy Christmas don't we? |

I have noticed on Brian May's web site that he has snubbed Roger getting that O.B.E but congratulated Steve Backshall getting his award! |

LOL |

Not true. https://www.instagram.com/p/B6oHgaIBeBp/?igshid=z8xd08izasgc But Brian does point out he is already a CBE: " I received a CBE some years ago." |
mooghead 29.12.2019 20:07 |
It's just so fucking patronising, it is like a big jewel encrusted hand patting you on the head saying 'there, there.. haven't you been a good boy' Surely hundreds of millions of records sold and tens of millions in the bank is all the recognition you need?! |
Star* 29.12.2019 20:20 |
Freddie should have got some special recognition award at some point and if he were still here a knighthood would have been very nice indeed. Rise Sir Freddie Mercury ! |
mooghead 29.12.2019 20:54 |
The shit you come out with is worth a million times less than the establishment.. whatever you decide to call yourself today. |

I'm not sure of the rules around knighthoods though, as i don't think people born outside of the UK can use the "Sir" title. |

When tossers like Iain Duncan Smith are getting knighthoods then the whole system is fake and insulting to people who deserve them. |
emrabt 30.12.2019 12:55 |
..... wrote: When tossers like Iain Duncan Smith are getting knighthoods then the whole system is fake and insulting to people who deserve them. They took something from centuries ago meant to honor bravery in battle and used it to highlight an elite group of famous people, So i'd agree that nobody "deserves" a knighthood, but that said the whole system has been fucked for years. It's basically meaningless, it's now an award for being popular in your field for many decades. |
Thistle 30.12.2019 16:14 |
Terry Wogan used "sir", Bob Geldof uses it and I think Magnus Magnusson was referred to as "sir" also. Not sure how it works for Cliff Richard, as he was born in (ahem) "British" India. So a few examples of people not born in the UK who did/do use the title. Not that I care, it's all bollocks. |
emrabt 30.12.2019 17:22 |
Thinking about it, you are right, they should be sentenced to death for that! |
Star* 30.12.2019 17:27 |
Olivia Newton John has been named a Dame, i thought she was Australian? |
emrabt 30.12.2019 17:51 |
She is, which means she can't officially use the 'Dame' title (Although obviously people do and no one cares). My reply was to the person talking about "sir" Freddie and the fact he may not be have allowed to be called that. |

The monarchy and establishment can go and fuck off for all I care. People don't realise how much damage the British Empire did. Disappointed that Roger has accepted the OBE but to be honest I wouldn't expect anything less for someone that performed at the Queen's Jubilee. |

Maylor should be punished for their crimes against good music since 1995 onwards and desecrating the Queen legacy and for insulting their great late bandmate by replacing him with a sad twat and shitting on him with an insulting movie. |

Khizzy wrote:The monarchy and establishment can go and fuck off for all I care. People don't realise how much damage the British Empire did.Agree with the first sentence, wholeheartedly. The second though, well, this ain't unique to the British Empire. From the Romans to date, there can't be many empires that didn't do "damage". All empires are about extension via exploitation - either of the populous or the natural resources. Sometimes they leave behind some good/improvements, but usually at a huge cost. |

link Whoever put this together must have had an agenda , but this list puts Britain at number one as most the exploitative abusive regime. Ahead of Soviet Union, Nazis, Khmer Rouge etc. I don’t actually agree with this ...but it’s out there. |

Roger's OBE is not important. I'd say the depression awareness thing is, though. Couldn't give a toss if Brian never mentioned it (the OBE) tbh. Just my opinion. |
