I couldn't see this mentioned anywhere on QZ but on Jim's Facebook he has a picture of him interviewing Greg Brooks at the last Queen convention (posted 8th October). It says he played some unreleased songs. Has anyone heard about this or know what the songs were? |

The problem with the unreleased songs is they're pretty ropey, and they'd take a lot of work to complete if they could be. Love Makin' Love could be completed fairly easily, I guess we're falling out maybe could be (it's boring though), Self Made Man is pretty much there, but apart from Freddie's vocal on the middle 8, it's a fairly terrible song. Some of the ones from the 70s are interesting like Silver Salmon, and isn't there a Queen version of Polar Bear which again could be very interesting. There's nothing that would make an impact and hit the charts (i.e. bring them adulation....) but there's a lot that has artistic value. Kind of like recently they found a manuscript of a Mozart piano sonata that was reworked into a final version published during W.A.M's lifetime in the 1780s. The unfinished working version will not be performed in concerts, but it is interesting to have it out there. Basically on queenzone, when discussing unreleased things and working versions, we're doing the work of musicologists. |

^ah, if i only had my editing software of old. I'd finish up those Queen demos with PROPERTY OF QUEEN PRODUCTIONS melodyned |

Face it alone has great potential, it needs an good producer to edit some of the vocals like Richard did on you don't fool me. Then we will get a big hit Queen song. |
miraclesteinway 07.11.2019 01:18 |
Do you think so? I don't really agree with you about Face It Alone but I'm open minded and would love to hear the result. |

I prefer Tims vocal version. If I remember it didn't have any backing vocals on it though. It was just a live studio take or something. Someone can correct me on that I'm sure. |

Jim Jenkins & The Last Convention sounds like a cool US garage band. The sort you used to see most nights in Tin Pan Alley in the noughties. |

Some of the rough demo's out there are shite songs you cant polish a turd, may be that's why they cant be bothered, It's strange to think the likes of The Beatles or Floyd and so on can still produce demo's even after all these years but Queen cant show up with more than a few even after all those studio albums, I still say the best release since 1991 was the Freddie box set. I remember years ago it was either RT or BM saying there was nothing left, they both clearly are not inspired by the likes of Floyd, Beatles or even The Nolans |
dysan 08.11.2019 07:54 |
I think their demo archive is rich - Johnson and Johnson would've prepared stuff at home. We've had a glimpse from RT but would love to get more of the same from before these songs came to the band. That's different from the studio noodles we have from The Miracle and Innuendo. Just aborted ideas - but some of them are great and definitely worth a release. The only problem is that some of the more 'jammy' ones would be cut down to make them concise (probably the plan all along) and you just know they'd chop out the bits we perceive as the best bits. Other than that, we have the studio works in progress which are also fascinating. Alternate parts and different structure ideas etc. The problem with working digitally is that they probably just started a song and saw it through to perfection rather than doing take after take. I know I did :/ |

I think unreleased totally new tracks will be sparse...what's named above sums it up. However they have Queen versions of Man on Fire, Man Made Paradise, I Dream of Christmas (?) and possibly of other solo tracks that they at least demoed, plus also demos and early working versions of otherwise known tracks - see the versions of Get Down, Make Love and Sail Away Sweet Sister for real treats. Based on the snippets we have had released by Queen and Freddie solo, it seems that they didn't record over too much of the earlier or alternate versions, so there would be enough to pull into a fantastic future release(s). We won't get it though until Brian, Roger, Jim and me are dead! |
dysan 08.11.2019 20:35 |
Is there an echo in here? |
Stick 08.11.2019 21:34 |
@cmsdrums Nah, probably after just Brian dies. I dont think Roger would have any objections as he seems to be the more sober one of the two. And Jim will release anything if there is money to be made but hey thats why he is the manager. |

Trouble is, there are infinitely more potential GH releases, that there is not room for decent archival releases. However, there is always room for more "boring" archival releases. |
miraclesteinway 15.11.2019 03:36 |
Do we think there are really Queen versions of Man on Fire and the other things that were on that "works" promo tape? Or do we think they were recorded over and re-worked into the versions that were eventually released? Remember in 1982-84 nobody knew that Freddie was ill, and nobody would have thought to archive or save some of that stuff. By the way, Let me in your heart again flopped in the UK chart, it got to 102. Chart success isn't an indicator of quality of course, and it's worth having it out there. It would have probably charted quite well in 1984. |

It would have probably charted quite well in 1984.I think the way the track was released, as an add on to a compilation album, meant it got nowhere near the public awareness it deserved. Additionally, the way that singles are released and how the charts are measured now compared to 1984 make it almost impossible to compare like-for like success. |

The three new songs on Forever got great promotion in the UK. They all got on the Radio 2 Playlist which meant for several weeks each song got a turn at being played on every show on the station. It helped the album do quite well in the UK. |
