new solo album or compilation perhaps? maybe a dvd |
death to ming! 02.11.2019 22:16 |
The link is definitely for a CD. On amazon.co.jp, there's a December 6th CD release with a different title: "Out Of This World: Brian May's Ultimate Space Collection" credited to "Various" artists (not Brian May). The HMV (USA import) link's catalogue number is 3890837 and the Amazon listing (UK import) has a JAN code of 060075 3890837, so I assume that makes it the same product. Hmm. |
dysan 02.11.2019 22:32 |
If it's a comp of Brian's favourite space songs it might be the maddest and best thing released for a couple of years. Telstar / Shooting Star (Shadows) / The Rocket Man (Spotniks) / I Hear A New World (Meek) stuff like that. |
dysan 02.11.2019 22:36 |
Lets not be coy - this could be Queen if they got their stuff together in '66: link |
Pokemaniacjunk 02.11.2019 23:08 |
I sure we'll see what it is soon, it's release is only a month away |

Now the CD with the "Ultimate Space Collection" title credited to "Various Artists" is on amazon.co.uk with a November 29 release date. The label is UMOD, which describes itself as "A Universal Music record label. Home of Compilations, Playlisting and Special Artist Projects." My guess is it will be a bunch of space-themed songs, plus New Horizons or maybe even a live version of '39 sung by Brian May. |
dysan 03.11.2019 20:22 |
Add Starfleet too! |
matt z 04.11.2019 04:28 |
Brian's journey into space? Surely it'll include illustrations! ;)(like the ANOTHER WORLD programme ) |
Arnaldo "Ogre-" Silveira 04.11.2019 10:31 |
I guess it won't feature The Cosmos Rocks or songs by Mercury. Cheers, Ogre- |

Don't forget Fun in Space: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOj1rLK41jY In reality, that song should be titled "massively expensive death in space" |

Countdown by Rush. |

Bonus track: Space Captain by Mad Dogs And Englishmen featuring a 56 second clip of Brian Harold May in his facemask..... |

Urban Spaceman by Neil Innes. It;s not actually about space but I bet Brian knows it and anyway, I don't care any more. |

Some weeks ago Brian mentioned an interesting new release. Maybe he didn't mean the Freddie stuff but this one??? |

Amazon.co.jp indicates a February 7th, 2020 release now, and it's been removed from Amazon.co.uk. |
Pokemaniacjunk 04.12.2019 03:24 |
I notice that japanese website still shows the release date as December 6th, does anyone think that might be a mistake or something else |
dysan 04.12.2019 13:11 |
Oh I forgot about this. So essentially not long now! / quite long now! |
Pokemaniacjunk 31.12.2019 12:51 |
has there been anymore info about this, it's about 5 weeks from the current listed release date |

I think I may have found a clue about this album, which is supposedly out in a couple of weeks. On this Barnes and Noble product listing page for the CD, if you scroll down and click on "Album Credits" you will find "Technical Credits" for Gustav Holst - Composer, and Richard Strauss - Composer. link Holst is known for his orchestral suite The Planets, and Strauss's work was famously used as the theme for 2001: A Space Odyssey, so they're fitting inclusions for an album titled "Journey into Space." But will they be in orchestral form? Or maybe guitar orchestrations by Brian? He has been doing his own take on Dvorak's New World Symphony on the Rhapsody Tour, and (this is a stretch, but..) even the 20th Century Fox thing, so it wouldn't be too crazy. Could we be looking at an instrumental album? |
death to ming! 23.01.2020 03:48 |
Here's someone doing Also Sprach Zarathustra (the 2001 theme) on the Red Special: link I'm picturing something like this for The Planets (this one is for Mars): link |
Pokemaniacjunk 24.01.2020 01:02 |
so will this just be released without an announcement? |

Okay, a bit more information trickling in. On at least three sites selling the CD (including Amazon Japan and importcds), there's the following product description: "2020 release. Random cover Includes 104 page photobook, random photocard, and random poster." ... "random"? I was curious about this and tried to see if it's a common sales tactic, and it looks like there are several examples of this kind of set by Korean acts such as BTS and Miroh. And Queen did give a shout out to k-pop acts like BTS not too long ago. But a 104-page photobook from a Brian may solo release...? |

Oh wow, that's a lot. A few thoughts.. - it's listed as a one disc release everywhere else at this point, so this information is new - Tower Records has this filed under the composer Brian May (RIP), but with New Horizons, Flash, and Don't Stop Me Now included, it's safe to say it's Queen's Brian May - those songs can't be in full and fit on a CD, so it has to be snippets of each; could this be basically a long guitar solo featuring elements of those listed tracks? Maybe with occasional vocals? The idea of it being a "Journey" into Space would be a fitting title if that were the case. - didn't Brian describe Track 13 (on Made in Heaven) as Freddie's "journey" to heaven? And that was a long, meandering instrumental. I have been thinking about this release too much. |
Pokemaniacjunk 26.01.2020 14:43 |
I can see why this release was delayed with all of the covered songs on it |

Pokemaniacjunk wrote: considering that there is no announcement or image's of possible covers will the release date get pushed back again?Well, HMV.com has the release date as January 1, 2022 now, even though all of the other sites recently added "2020 release" to the product information. I don't see the title on sites that list upcoming new music releases. |

February 7th came and went, but this disc was pulled from various Amazon sites, unavailable for pre-order. It's available again now, with a February 28th release, but still no cover image. |
