Since moving to the USA two and a half months ago I haven't really explored any record stores, but today I went to Barnes and Noble.
They had some Queen LP's but interestingly enough they weren't the studio collection LP's, but the older style Hollywood ones.
They had A Night At the Opera which even had (P)1975, no link printed on it, and I think no bar code, pressed by Hollywood records. They had Innuendo which had the edited versions for vinyl, the Hollywood version of Queen which I think had link printed on the back but was an older style pressing than the Studio Collection vinyls.
Can anyone enlighten me on this: are these the standard issue LP's in the USA now or have Barnes and Noble put out some leftovers?
They had none of the Freddie solo stuff.
What city did you move to? I've lived in many parts of the US and there are usually some good stores to buy vinyl.
Barnes and Noble is an odd choice, but hey, they had something. To me, it seems they were probably leftovers or stock brought out of the warehouse to due to recent popularity.
"Barnes has a good selection of vinyl LPs surprisingly. And whatever Queen has out, they've got. At least in the BNs near my parts of the US. NY/NJ."
Interesting to hear some BNs have good LP selections. Usually relied on independents for music.
Hollywood Records rereleased several LPs in 2008-2009. ANATO and the first album are probably from this batch. About Innuendo, it is hard to say. The original LP is quite hard to find nowadays and there's a lot of pirates circulating.
avoid those pressings. i have NOTW and Innuendo. aside from innuendo, getting the originals is best. Innuendo is too expensive to buy a 1st pressing of. A better choice would be the new remasters (on double LP).
Sound quality - stick to pre-90 pressings. the newer remasters do sound good, but not better.
I wonder if the Hollywood batches in 2008-2009 followed the UK groupings? I agree about the pressings though. Revirginising a nicely kept original / early reissue is cheaper and more authentic. And fun too!
Is B&N like FNAC in France? They have HUGE record departments.
There are literally no record shops in London anymore aside from specialist and hipster ones who generally only stock older artists (like Queen) who fall into the pseudo-chin stroking category.
Tuscaloosa Alabama, to do my Doctoral Degree.... I'm not sure what I think of the place yet. It's not what I'm used to certainly....
I'm not going to buy the LPs, I'm just curious as to why it isn't the studio collection pressings that are available.
Alabama.. that’s random haha not in a bad way just random.. for you I think you should make the drive to Birmingham, AL if you could not sure how far that is from you but that’s a well known city there in Alabama and also Montgomery. Try those

They were released around the same time. I remember there was several batches of 5 LPs each.
Dysan, Barnes and Noble is a book store chain. Can be quite big in size with nice media departments. Before I moved to Budapest, I lived in Portland, Oregon; there were a lot of good record stores there. Quite a few here in Budapest too,
Miraclesteinway, one part of the states I never lived in was the southeast. If I lived in in Tuscaloosa, I'd check out Atlanta and Nashville.
Went to a Barnes and Noble in Syracuse, NY couple of months ago.
Great selection of new vinyl including some "Barnes and Noble only" limited edition pressings of various artists.
Saw some leftovers as well. I suppose it's old stock.
I used to live in Detroit, I was born there. First saw Queen at Cobo Hall on November 9, 1978. But I moved to Hungary four years ago, to teach English.
American Jewelry and Loan!?! I've been kicked out of that place more times that I can remember. Went there on a weekly basis. But once my grandmother ran out of possessions, my wife was just gonna hafta stay in the clink.
