I don’t know if it’s true or not but a rumor I know has been around for a long time is Brian recorded every show after 74. I don’t really know if it’s true or not. Was it a official statement, or fans trying to have hope for great sounding releases of their favorite shows.
I think the comment came initially from a roadie. However, it's possible that they recorded each show so the band could review their performance from night to night, then either disposed of the recording or recorded over it (depending on equipment used). I would be willing to bet Brian has some of these early shows in his collection but it's very unlikely we will ever get to hear them.

If he does have them in his collection, it is very likely that we (as in: the public) will hear them - some years or decades after his death. I say this on the basis of what has happened to similar recordings made by famous artists who died many decades ago. Cynical, perhaps, but probably true - if there's money in them, they will come out once the people who were involved in making the actual music no longer have a say in the matter.

Yeah have to agree here. I'm sure a lot were probablyrecorded over during the years but if some still do exist we won't see them until after Brian, Roger and Jim Beach are gone.
Same with Bowie. His vault was (apart from one or 2 incredible releases) firmly closed. Before death he apparently planned out a posthumous release schedule of unreleased stuff. A wonderful gesture.
