Interesting interview with Roger Taylor in the Record Collector from about 2013 where he mentions the forthcoming biopic:
"we don’t want some sanitised, nice, polite, tidy version of the truth". link
Do you think he got what he wanted?
Millions of dollars in revenue from all the teenyboppers who went to see the movie because it didn't have a hard R rating? ;)
I think there was a lot of give-and-take between them and the studio. I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall for some of the back and forth, but they're tied to promoting it now whether they like it or not.
Well. It was a full 5-6 years before the thing was released, and about 4 before they signed off on it.
I'm sure whatever his current view on it is, it's probably a hearty "satisfied". The public ate it up and it's given them their 4 th peak of many valleys.
Maybe Brian will get his alleged "wish" (SBC interview at Howard Stern) to see the story culminate in "QUEEN 'S" triumphant return...
Roger might secretly think it's a dumb simple buddy film
Well, it shows Roger making fun of Freddie's teeth ("not with those teeth, mate")... lots of heated squabbles... drugs... womanizing... jealousy over money... so there are definitely "warts included". It's a victorious story, almost no matter how you slice it, but Disney it ain't. So, I'd say he got what he wanted, in a compromise with making a palatable story that interested audiences.
That said, I disliked the movie first time I saw it, mainly because of all the glaring anachronisms... I'm gathering they were deliberate attempts to include more detail in the short time. I like it better with repeated viewings, but I always fast forward over the Prenter drama. Just give me the music...
Bo Rhap film was scattered with many lies mainly to make Freddie look like a twat while the other 3 Queen members looked innocents!
Freddie was accused of splitting the band up when he was about to release a solo album and we all know Roger was the first to release a solo album.
When Freddie met Jim Hutton it wasnt in a hotel at all it was in a gay bar.
