Hi, I'm looking for the A Night At The Opera 2011 remaster, in the best possible sound quality. Where can I find that? Sites as prostudiomasters.com and hdtracks.com claims to sell them in 24-bit 96-khz format, can I be sure that it's not just converted from a lower format? Or are the sa-cd format a better choice, what do you think? I'm just looking for the sound quality closest to the original 2011 remaster as possible. Also, where is it possible to get the surround sound mix from 2002 today? Thanks in advance. Best regards: Aksel Christoffersen |

CMon, buy some stuff... Ebay, Amazon. |

There's a "Blu-ray High Fidelity Pure Audio" release from a few years back that has the stereo mix (the 2011 remaster I assume, but I'm not sure) and one of the 5.1 mixes (probably the revised one) in 24/96. It's pretty expensive though. link |

Just the best one. I believe the DVD-A is the best one to get your hands on for both 5.1 and 2.0 (2005, 30th anniversary). link If you want a simple cd - the DCC one is the crown jewel. But this one is quite expensive: link I haven’t noticed anything wrong with the hdtracks version. That would be your most practical purchase. If you’re considering vinyl, nothing will beat 1st press U.K. or so I hear. Still need to get my hands on one. |

The hdtracks &co. tracks are not upsampled. And with a parametric equalizer at playback you can have the best sound you'll ever get. |

Do there exist more 5.1 mixes? I've only heard about the 2002 one. So, as I understand it, the album from HDTracks is more or less the original remaster from 2011. |
Jimmy Dean 01.09.2019 12:08 |
I believe the 2002 is the same mix used in the 2005 30th anniversary and the 2013 Blu ray. In the 2013 blu-ray, apparently BohRhap was digitally repaired. However, this version does contains 5.1 in PCM. Right now, it's both out of print and fairly expensive. The way I see it, if you aren't getting the original UK 1st press vinyl - go for the release that is the easiest to obtain at a reasonable price. You get everything with the 2005 30th anniversary if you want to buy in a physical release. If you don't need 5.1 or a physical release - HDTracks is the way to go. |

OK, I'm thinking of the 2005 release, but I'm not sure. However, I'm still interested in the 2011 remaster, and I've also descovered, that I can sadly not buy it from HDtracks here in Denmark. I found it on prostudiomasters.com, but it secure to buy it from there? Can I trost, that it's the real, original thing? |

Seems like prostudiomasters.com doesn't offers the album in Denmark as well. What can I do, then? |

If I were you, I would look for the 2005 (30th anniversary) CD+DVD combo. The 2005 CD AND the 2011 remaster were both done by Bob Ludwig, so there's almost no difference between the two CDs. Just a minor fix on Bohemian Rhapsody in 2011, I believe, as well as slightly longer moments of silence in a couple of places. And, the 2005 version can be found with a DVD-A (5.1 surround mix) that's not exactly the same as the 2002 version you were asking about in your original post but it's still an excellent surround mix. The 30th anniversary edition CD+DVD is also available for a good price: link Keep in mind, though, that if you go this route you wouldn't get the six 2011 bonus tracks on the deluxe edition. I'd say it's no big loss. |

I've only heard about the 2002 one.Yes, there is also the DVD-Audio release of “The Game” that came out in 2003, and it should also be mentioned that “A Night At The Opera” also had a ‘High Fidelity Pure Audio’ Blu-Ray release in 2013, though it seems to be out of print now. You’ll also find 5.1 remixes of various other tracks on the Greatest Video Hits 1 and 2 DVD-Video releases, in lossy DTS 96/24 audio form. The 2.0 track on the 2001/02 ANATO is indeed in lossless 96/24 PCM, however keep in mind there IS a mastering error on “Sweet Lady” that has the lead vocal and bass pushed off center towards the right channel, for some odd reason. You’ll really only notice it if you’re listening with headphones. |

OK. I'm Down to two questions now, but thanks for the replies so far. I have decided to buy the 2005 cd-dvd 30 aniversery release, but is the sound on the dvd, boat 2.0 and 5.1, lossless or lossy? However, I still want to buy a 24-bit 96 kHz, or better, version of the 2011 remaster, digital or physical. I've heard previews of boat the 2005 and 2011 remaster from friends, and I can hear a clear difference with Bohemian Rhapsody. I'm mostly buying the 2005 cd-dvd for the surround mix, but therefore, I still want to buy the 2011 remaster in the best quality possible. I don't care about the bonus tracks. Where can I do that? HDtracks doesn't sell it to Danish customers. Thanks in advance. |
inu-liger 01.09.2019 15:59 |
The 2005 Anniversary DVD has lossy audio. |

It's not a boat it's a ship. |
akse0435 01.09.2019 17:43 |
What do you mean? Last time I checked, A Night At The Opera, was an album, not a ship, but of course I could be wrong... |
Jimmy Dean 01.09.2019 18:00 |
2005 has lossy dts surround (5.1) on the dvd and lossless pcm on the 2.0 (also on dvd) - 24/48 I believe. Only place to get lossless 5.1 is on the Blu-ray. I believe that one has 24/96 2.0 - not exactly easy to tell the difference between 24/48 and 24/96. It’s also a little harder to tell the difference between lossy and lossless when listening in 5.1. |

The DVD-A has lossless 5.1 MLP @ 24/96. Two different mixes were available in 2001 and 2002, the first one withdrawn shortly after release. Copies do crop up on eBay from time to time. |
akse0435 01.09.2019 18:20 |
I'll go and look for the bluray, then, but I don't have enough Money at the moment, so it may take some time, unless I find a lossless surround mix somewhere else. But it still frostrates me that they wouldn't let me buy the 24-96 version of the 2011 remaster anywhere on the internet, just because I don't live in USA or Canada. |
. 01.09.2019 18:24 |
Or perhaps someone can obtain a copy of the pro studio master for you? |

Muddy sounding, levels are wrong in many spots and occasionally extra bits pop up that weren’t originally in the master mix. Bohemian Rhapsody was the worst of the botch jobs. Interesting bit though not realized by many: The ending of “Sweet Lady” on the 2001 version continues on from where the original version ended on a tape loop. The instrumental snippet on the selection menus for both the 2001 and 2002 releases replicates this un-looped ending! |

If anyone, WHO's located in USA or Canada, is interested in buying the hi-ress version of the 2011 remaster for me, from the folowing link to acousticsounds.com, I can send the Money through paypal, plus $5 as a thank you. link |
inu-liger 01.09.2019 19:25 |
I can take care of that for you on Thursday or Friday. I live in Canada. |
akse0435 01.09.2019 19:28 |
That's very kind, thank you so much. However, if anyone else can do it sooner, I'll say yes to that, but better later than never. Thanks. |

I’ll check with you if nobody else has gotten to it by then. |

You could also give 7digital a try. They have ANATO on 24-bit/96kHz FLAC: link They don't have a Danish store, though, but one of the European ones might work... |
akse0435 02.09.2019 04:10 |
It doesn't. I've tried that before. They once had a eu-shop, that could sell to all countries in the EU, but it closed. |

The 2001 DVD-A is a rarity, and forget about DTS as the lossless MLP 5.1 is what it's all about. |

Hi, I've given up on buying the ANATO remaster as a high-ress download. I had someone from Canada to help me, but it didn't Work for him eighter. So, could someone WHO owns it maybe please post an iso-image of the 2013 bluray-audio release? I don't have any equipment to play bluray discs, but I can use an iso-file on my computer. Also, while searching for a bluray iso, I came across a torrent which, I believe, contains the 2001 dvd-audio mix. It sounds like it. But if anyone please can/will help me out with an bluray-iso, I would be so happy. Thanks in advance! Best regards: Aksel Christoffersen |
