Hey guys, I'm heading to England for the first time in Jan next year, and I have 3 days in London. What are the absolute must-see Queen related things to see and do (apart from Garden Lodge obviously)? Are there any rock history tours that feature Queen heavily? Any advice appreciated. |

I'm lucky to live very close by to such amazing landmarks. |

Where do you live stevelondon? |
stevelondon20 25.08.2019 16:52 |
Dagenham. Although I was born in West London. |

Ah just down the road. |

Lived in West London up to the age of 31. I'm 37 now. Still only a short train journey into Central London. |

I was in London last month, for the first time! It was wonderful. The best trip of my life. From the sites I visited this is what in my opinion is highly recommended: 1. Ealing College (now under the name of University of West London) - You can see a gallery of people who studied there and Freddie is there. I also took a photo with Pete Townshend. 2. first London home of Bulsara family (in Feltham) - it's close to Heathrow Airport and there blue plaque on the building with Freddie 3. Wembley Stadium + Wembley Arena - two sites next to each other. Obviously very historical places. 4. Hammesmith Apollo (now Eventim Apollo) - I love the way it looks. If you are in Hammersmith don't miss it! 5. Metropolis Studios - featured in Innuendo and Headlong video clips. Queen recorded a lot of Innuendo album there. 6. Hyde Park - Queen reportedly played at Marble Arch corner. You can go there by bus and leave the bus literally on the other side of the road at the corner. 7. Royal Albert Hall - Smile played there and had photo session in front of the building on the stairs, so you can recreate one of the photos :) It's very close to Hyde Park. And the tour inside the RAH costs only 15 pounds. Highly recommended. 8. Imperial College Union - very close to Royal Albert Hall. You should go there! I described my experience here: link Wishing you as much luck with it as I had! 9. Garden Lodge - of course. And it's pretty close to Royal Albert Hall/Imperial Colege 10. Wardour Street in Soho. You have 3 Queen sites there. 1.Trident Studios. It's actually at St Anne's Court which is one of the side streets of Wardour Street. 2. old site of Marquee Club. Keith Moon's blue plaque is on the builing. Queen played there in 1972 and 73. 3. site of Queen's photo session from 1974, example: link 11. Dominion Theatre - close to Wardour Street 12. Tate Britain gallery in Westminster - it's for free. The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke original painting is there! This is just very briefly! To give you some ideas :) There is so much more to see. My advice is - if you really want to see Queen sites prepare yourself before. Many sites are pretty close to each other and you can miss them unaware. I prepared a map/plan myself just spotting all the sites and it took me a few days. Even doing just that, I had fun. Good luck! And don't forget to write how it all went! |

"I also took a photo with Pete Townshend." Pete Towshend was there and you had your photo taken with him? |
Chopin1995 25.08.2019 21:33 |
No, I meant that in the gallery of people who studied there I took a photo not only with Freddie but also with Pete. Sorry for the confusion, Moog! But the links are clickable! Have you tried them? :) |
stevelondon20 25.08.2019 22:31 |
Definitely are clickable! |

^ It was uploaded on Sikke's channel 3 years ago link Pretty interesting, specially Peter Freestone's bits. He said that the story about Freddie asking the studio staff to tidy and prepare woman's toilet for Montserrat Caballe is false. And nice to see Gary Langan in this. |

Ah good I'm due another watch. Please tell me those guides are on here? |

It was done in 2006 I think. They visited Townhouse Studios, which I did too. But unfortunately it was converted into luxury homes. Now it's called Townhouse Mews. |

Here's my pic from the last month. This is the only hint of the old Townhouse Studios now: |

I meant the guys hosting it. I think I bought it in about 2010? It somehow dodged multiple trips to the charity shop with DVDs and CDs. I've actually been lucky enough to do work in Trident (ex), De Lane Lea and Maida Vale 4. Should dig out some pictures. |
Chopin1995 26.08.2019 12:47 |
Yeah, 2 guys are doing it basically, but at the end Jacky Smith replaces one of him. When did you work in Trident, De Lane Lea and Maida Vale? I'd love to see some pictures! There was that bit when they showed Trident Studios inside. It was nice. Nowadays it's a flat, isn't it? When I was there some guy was inside watching TV but when he spotted me doing photos, he switched off the lighs and went somewhere else. There is a David Bowie blue plaque on the building. But even from the outside, the stairs leading to the studio area are visible. |

There's a media company in there somewhere but yeah the inside layout has been obliterated. The original Marquee is just round the corner too. The bar it is now still has the recognisable shape so well worth a visit. |
bill_lbk 26.08.2019 22:42 |
I thought the Weatherspoons, if that's the pub in question, wasn't the original Marquee where Queen played but the later Marquee where I saw The Cross & Smile & Roger Daltrey as a last minute BM replacement .... |
dysan 27.08.2019 06:16 |
No, the one I'm talking about is just around the corner from ex-Trident on Wardour St. Its replacement (mid 80s?) is around several corners on Charing Cross Road. Although is also recognisable inside. The one after that was 3 floors up in Leicester Square and then in Islington. I played at those ones. A slightly different vibe to the original :) |

Yeah the current Hyde Park site is further down. I've also played there believe it or not. |

Now looking at this video I can see it (at 6:10, or 7:40): link So, to be more precise, was the stage at the location of Norwegian War Memorial? |

It didn't look like it was open when I was there (Sunday evening). How much did it change inside? |
dysan 28.08.2019 16:48 |
You want the door to the left and down the stairs. Once you're in there you can see the basic layout is the same even without having seen it in it's heyday. I think when I went (2012?) the stage was even in the same place and a salsa band were playing. |

Awesome guys. Thanks. I've been looking into it as well, and there are of course rock history tours of London which can be specifically customised towards Queen etc. But pricey. Lots of into to go through here. Thanks heaps. |
