Most of you would know that John is the youngest member of the band... and today he will be gracing the world yet again... only under the banner of being aged 68.
While likely the unspoken member of the band, his contributions to the QUEEN SOUND are indelible. Having a Motown-ish melodic bass wisdom to both proper songs and drive undercurrents... sometimes even lead bass (You're my Best Friend) he's often overlooked as a bassist for the fact that he wasn't "showy". His creation of a rummage speaker box into the DEACY AMP allowed Brian May to get his signature solo sounds.
His 80's hair, inspired others... TODAY WE SALUTE JOHN RICHARD DEACON!!!
Feel free to provide comments, fan art, speculation, words of gratitude etc for the man of the hour, Mr John Richard Deacon.... aka Deacon John.
I'll start...
1) I wonder why with a sailors mouth and with his wit, it's almost unheard of that Freddi ever referred to John RICHARD Deacon
as Dick... AKA Dick Deacon... Mr Dick... etc.
I'd imagine there was just far too much respect for the man.
2) Does anybody know if there's a QUALITY download of the BIGGLES soundtrack song: THERE'S NO TURNING BACK?
I've seen a few videos online, apparently two different mixes, featuring Peter Cushing.
3) Ditto... for the MAN FRIDAY AND JUNIOR JIVE MIXES...
Also, if I get the time, I'll provide a new John Deacon sketch here.. just because. I've intended to do these things each year, but have usually fallen short.
P.S. John, if you're reading this... and you're *not* using your basses anymore.. Might I have one?
Hell, I'll even take a knock off bass that someone bought you on "holiday"... or even the buzzard bass from FRIENDS WILL BE FRIENDS... just anything to relate to the majesty of your tunes.
I don't buy the line that Deaky didn't like rock music and was only interested in funk, soul etc. Maybe those were his favourites but if you look at any concert footage he is rocking along to the heavier tracks just as much as anyone.
I hope he has a happy, heavy 68th birthday.

Plus, he wrote a song like If You Can't Beat Them.
Happy 68th birthday John Deacon!!
I’m appreciating John more as I listen to his songs. He didn’t write as many as the others but those that he did write, were mega hits!! My favorites are: Spread Your Wings, You’re My Best Friend, and Another One Bites the Dust.
Here’s wishing you a happy and healthy year, John! Xoxo
Happy Birthday John !
Can you please drop a USB stick with "this is your time" on a sidewalk near by your house ? I am dying to hear it ;)
@matt z...forget it you won't get a bass from him. Some of them were rent for tours or videos. There is no secret storage hall with hundreds of John Deacon bass guitars ;)
Hahaha. ... This is your time?
That'd be nice. I didn't get around to drawing anything John related. In fact i didn't draw at all. It was a hellish manic Monday. Work work work work work and then making a door for my mini art studio (*more work)
Hopefully I'll post a John related thing soon. Or simply buy some hunk of wood and make a John Deacon face bass. (Which would be hilarious)
