"Members of the group Smile posed in Addison Gardens, West Kensington, London in August 1969. Left to right: Bruce Sanderson (with eye patch), Paul Humbertone, Brian May (sitting on bonnet), Pete Edmunds, Tim Staffell, Clive Armitage and Paul Fielder."
Roger Taylor isn't in it, so bizarre that they call it "Smile" with all these extra folks.
Who are the others? Besides Tim Staffell and Pete Edmunds, of course.
Scroll down a bit and there's another new photo from the collection of Tim Staffell. Great stuff.
Nice pics! Always funny to see the guys when they were so young. The eye patch guy rings a bell, but maybe I'm just mixing things up in my head.
I was never a front man with any substance. That was the main difference between myself and Freddie. I've made two albums since the turn of the millennia and maintained a writing career in music. The two albums, one is called Amigo, from 2003, which also has Bryan May, Snowy White, Morgan Fisher, and a whole host of players on it. It's just about to be re-released in a special edition. I'm gearing up to make a third album, which no doubt will be my last.
News to me. I wonder if the new "aMIGO" edition will include the rare 'Earth' and 'Doin' Alright' versions without Brian on vocals, and who knows what else of interest.
EDIT: according to his website it just includes one extra track, unrelated to Smile. Why do I even get my hopes up, lol.
Book : Queen on camera, off guard 1965-1991
page 33
Paul: There's me and Brian sitting on the bonnet. That's Bruce Sanderson with the eye patch. He had a tumour, poor lad, and has since passed away. In front of Brian is Pete Edmunds, a friend of Brian and Tim's, who owned the van and was Smile's roadie-cum-manager. Next is Tim, arms folded, and then there's Clive Armitage, an artist friend from college. At the end is Paul Fiedler, or "Flogger", as we called him, with the leather jacket
I'm sorry, but what the actual duck is "cum manager"?
Um, it doesn't say "cum manager" it says "roadie-cum-manager" - which means he was their roadie, but was also essentially their manager due to what he did for them, but not in an official capacity.
I've seen before the first photo you mention and had it in my collection (although not in this quality) but not the 2nd one! Looks like another photo taken in front of Royal Albert Hall
Thanks Pittrek for the quote from that book :)
