Metropolis 10.06.2019 16:55 |
I really liked the song It's A Hard Life but I agree with Roger the music video isn't as good as many of Queen's videos. |
mariah carey 10.06.2019 17:13 |
One of their best videos imo |
Stick 10.06.2019 17:22 |
Love the video and everything in it. Roger hated most videos I think because he just didn't like the hassle of making them. I seem to remember he was stupidly drunk for Who Wants To Live Forever. |
Metropolis 10.06.2019 17:43 |
Didn't like the extras. Roger and John's expressions in that one scene tho... |
Dougie 4 10.06.2019 19:19 |
I love the song, I like the video except for Freddie's costume, it was too big for him... |
SirAxno 10.06.2019 21:41 |
there's no reason for it... |
NastyQueenie74 11.06.2019 05:23 |
It's kind of ironic how Roger supposedly hated acting in music videos, but then you look at the Strange Frontier video.... |
dysan 11.06.2019 07:15 |
That's because he thinks being (a) outwardly hostile to the machine is cool (and, yes, it gives funny interviews) but deep down he's a professional and knows to play the (b) media game when necessary as much as anyone. Which also means that his 'negative' interview persona in point a is actually a nurtured part of his public persona as dictated by b. |
Dougie 4 11.06.2019 07:53 |
I think he knows very well how to use the media to his advantage...after all he is a seasoned professional. But he doesn't like the media, especially in terms of their invasion of privacy and fake news generation |
ANAGRAMER 11.06.2019 07:59 |
Its rather beautifully lit as Roger says otherwise they were badly advises to issue the video, especially for the MTV USA market What WERE they thinking??? A simple.performance video lile Play the Game would have been cheaper and better imho |
dysan 11.06.2019 08:05 |
It was the 80s - the world was still going crazy for New Romantics, Boy George and Adam & The Ants (the Prince Charming video is similar in vibe) so I doubt anyone thought 'this is a bit much for America'. |
dysan 11.06.2019 08:05 |
Although probably more that as you say the 'butch' band was now in tights and wigs rather than being butch on a stage |
Dim 11.06.2019 09:25 |
I like both the song and the video. Also The Killers created a video that have been influenced by It's a hard life. link |
bucsateflon 11.06.2019 09:53 |
that is art you peasants, like Sia music videos for example. |
dysan 11.06.2019 12:25 |
lol |
dysan 11.06.2019 12:25 |
oh you're serious |
dysan 11.06.2019 12:26 |
No wait I can't tell |
bucsateflon 11.06.2019 12:43 |
you peasants... |
no_stairway 11.06.2019 15:55 |
One of my favourite videos, i really like that kind of theatrical-operetta game reminiscences |
bucsateflon 11.06.2019 16:53 |
exactly, a lot is going on in that music video. |
Vocal harmony 11.06.2019 16:55 |
Radio GaGa, I Want To Break Free and It's A Hard Life were all big budget and big production videos as were the videos for Freddie's solo career at the time. Hammer To Fall looks simpler because it a part live and part "staged live shoot" but still required the use of the venue, crew and equipment to film it. As has been pointed out this was the decade of lavish video production geared to tv presentation of music at the time, if the budget allowed. |
Jimmy Dean 11.06.2019 20:07 |
i hated it - excellent song over the top but misguided video... as bad as the invisible man. but for every hard life and invisible man, there's a radio ga ga and breakthru to more than make up for it. |
dysan 11.06.2019 20:17 |
Radio ga ga and breakthru aren't over the top?? They're in fucking spaceship and on train respectively in those! |
Jimmy Dean 12.06.2019 15:08 |
yup - over the top too, but not misguided. those videos were well done - the concept fit the song. also in ga ga - was it really a spaceship? i thought it was supposed to be a "modern" mode of transportation - in the framework of metropolis. i could be wrong - haven't watched a queen music video in years - having a kid definitely changes how you spend your time! |
dysan 12.06.2019 15:19 |
Yeah I was kind of exaggerating for effect :) |
Star* 12.06.2019 16:32 |
I think the video for "Its a Hard Life" was very lavish and so very Freddie. So flamboyant and colourful and a great addition to the Queen library of video promotions. |
dysan 12.06.2019 16:39 |
I was expecting a link to some on line course buried in the text of that post. Very nicely written. |
Helena Dax 12.06.2019 17:20 |
I like it and to me, it works. If you're a rock star and sing the line "it's a hard life", people will probably mock you and I think Freddie was aware of that, and that's why he aknowledges in the video that yes, he's living this kind of great life, but it's still hard for him because he feels alone and without real (romantic) love. |
Metropolis 12.06.2019 17:57 |
I thought the video had a great concept, but the costumes could have been better |
Dr Magus 15.06.2019 18:06 |
I always thought it owes a bit to the Prince Charming vid by Adam's Ants. |
dysan 15.06.2019 18:14 |
I mentioned that. Similar vibe fo sho |
Holly2003 15.06.2019 18:30 |
Minus Diana Dors. |
dysan 15.06.2019 18:41 |
Yes she was in the... no wait that was Roger |

barakada 10.09.2019 07:08 |
I don't actually pay that much attention to the clip, I am more interested in music and in lyrics. Meaningful word with rhythmic music is all I need when it comes to music or food for soul :) Soccer |
Day dop 10.09.2019 13:35 |
I've always liked the video. It's very Queen. |
MisterCosmicc 10.09.2019 15:49 |
Brian got it right when he said the video depicted Freddie in luxury, yet at times was very depressed with his love life. I’m not a huge fan of Freddie’s outfit in the video, but he must have enjoyed it. Roger’s outfit I think was even worse. Overall, I love the video. I absolutely LOVE the song. I love it more than any of Queen’s 70’s tracks. |
Holly2003 10.09.2019 15:53 |
MisterCosmicc wrote: I absolutely LOVE the song. I love it more than any of Queen’s 70’s tracks. That's ironic: the song was a deliberate attempt to emulate the band's traditional 1970s sound. |
MisterCosmicc 10.09.2019 22:47 |
And it came out better =) In my opinion ;-) |
dysan 11.09.2019 08:24 |
Mehmeh but the production mehmeh the drum sound mehmeh 80s mehmeh production and mastering mehmeh 80s mehmeh |
no_stairway 11.09.2019 08:33 |
dysan, imho it's better than the "jazz" sound production. |
dysan 11.09.2019 11:10 |
That's exactly the type of post I was parodying :D |
The Fairy King 11.09.2019 11:42 |

dysan 11.09.2019 13:32 |
Sometimes unfortunately. I just push them back up, wash my fingers and then get on with my day. They usually go within a few days. |
paulosham 11.09.2019 18:34 |
Love it, over the top and ridiculous. Very 1984 |
HelloDelilah 12.09.2019 06:44 |
The costumes were OUTRAGEOUS and the song has so much meaning!! Love this video!! <3<3<3 |
Star* 12.09.2019 12:55 |
Freddie always wrote great ballads when his own love life was in trouble! |
dysan 12.09.2019 13:46 |
Like John always writing great funk tracks when he didn't like his bandmates |
HelloDelilah 12.09.2019 15:21 |
dysan wrote: Like John always writing great funk tracks when he didn't like his bandmatesLike Back Chat? LOL |
MisterCosmicc 12.09.2019 15:26 |
“Freddie always wrote great ballads when his own love life was in trouble!” Yep. That’s why he didn’t write anymore breakup songs after ‘85... I wish A Kind Of Magic had one, but Brian did great with Who Wants To Live Forever and John with One Year Of Love. The Miracle suffered greatly from a heartbreak song... so needed Too Much Love Will Kill You. Innuendo has plenty of understandable emotions. |
dysan 12.09.2019 18:07 |
I know what you mean, but a break up song doth not an album make. Arguably Breakthru fits the bill lyrically but you know, it's not a weepy. |
Star* 13.09.2019 18:15 |
Dysan Be as sarcastic as you want but i happen to be a serious Queen fan of 45 years and find it very interesting listening to fans stories on other sites things you and others make fun of. I am more than just the person that is regularly put down on here by all the idiots who know nothing about Queen, so i will excuse your utter ignorance. |
