Its not the worst of Queen, what do you think? link |
mariah carey 30.05.2019 12:36 |
I like it. They have songs much worse than it |
Dougie 4 30.05.2019 12:39 |
I like it too...it sets a certain kind of mood. Also, I do appreciate the fact that Freddie wasn't afraid to experiment... that's what artists should do, push the boundaries...not always aim for the predictable commercial hits. |
bucsateflon 30.05.2019 13:26 |
this subject was discussed many times |
matt z 30.05.2019 13:58 |
It's essentially crap in their BODY of work, and probably wouldn't be noticed on any other band's catalogue of the era. It only cracked the top 20 in the US briefly because of the follow through and anticipation from the previous success with THE GAME singles. (These three things are simply mentioned to refute the idea that it's a GREAT song.. i think it only stands out because it's a weird departure and pretty bad for Queen |

Its a decaying corpse on an abandoned spaceship, orbiting a dead world. |
Nathan H 30.05.2019 16:24 |
In Queen standards rubbish but in today's standards fantastic. I do wish that Body Language had been on Mr. Bad Guy and There Must Be More to Life Than This or Man Made Paradise on Hot Space. |
dysan 30.05.2019 16:42 |
It's ace. |
mooghead 30.05.2019 17:04 |
Its like fungus, not normal fungus that grows on trees but the sinister fungus that grows in the lungs of someone with a weakened immune system and slowly kills them. But worse. |
Galileo1564 30.05.2019 18:48 |
There are drugs to treat that sinister fungus. Sometimes they work. There’s no drug you can take to make Body Language sound good. So yes moog, worse. Sorry Freddie. |
Golden Salmon 30.05.2019 18:55 |
I'd be hard pressed to say it's their worst song (a bad Queen song is kind of a foreign concept to me). Perhaps it's Freddie's least inspired song, and easily Queen's worst single. Worst Queen song... as in the whole band and with Freddie on lead vocals? Bottom 3 for sure. Then again, "best" and "worst" are totally subjective terms. |
Holly2003 30.05.2019 19:03 |
Chinese Torture is my pick for worst Queen song. It's painful to listen to. But it could be considered a Brian track rather than a Queen track. |
stevelondon20 30.05.2019 19:40 |
It's not a great song. Certainly not the worst though. |
mooghead 30.05.2019 19:46 |
If I knew someone who had never heard of Queen before and all I had to persuade them was Body Language or Chinese Torture then there would be no contest. Body Language would make them regret I ever brought them back to my flat to listen to Queen for a start.. :/ |
dysan 30.05.2019 19:56 |
It's ace |

a very mediocre song. on a very experimental album. besides "under pressure" i like "dancer" the most. i don't get any sympathy to "calling all girls" nor "body language". but "put out the fire" was ok. a highlight was "life is real". "that spanish one" was a pain in the ass! i appologize ! . it's quite a challenging state of mind to accept a song like "body language" in comparisation to (/the author who wrote//) "boRhap" and "somebody to love". but yes... it is what it is. a certain mood. a stamp on time. an experiment. welcome. but not necessarily proven to be good. |

I think it's ok. Definitely not one of their best but not one of their worst either. Live versions are much, much better than the studio cut. |
dysan 31.05.2019 06:16 |
I find things like The Hitman and Headlong far more bland, and am put off by them even more because people automatically think guitar = good. Easily as bland as BL is perceived to be. |
stevelondon20 31.05.2019 06:53 |
I love The Hitman. One of my favourites. |

I'd rather listen to Body Language on repeat than to WWRY tbh |
Ivo-1976 31.05.2019 10:30 |
Get down Make love....I really hate it. Freddie's first promiscuous song. The prequel to don't stop me now. |
fernandosales 31.05.2019 11:55 |
Body language / Dilallah / Get Down / Invisible man (original) |
Dougie 4 31.05.2019 12:00 |
I like 'get down make love' too... honestly don't know why people judge these songs with such a moral tone. Someone here called it a "promiscuous song" wtf?? |

Yes - it's fucking dreadful. So bad, in fact, that even the seediest of porn directors hasn't bothered to try to license it for se...... |

The worst are: pain is so close to pleasure, Leaving home ain't easy, in only 7 days, fun it, body language, party, rain must fall. |

WRONG Leaving home ain't easy is very good |
PrimeJiveUSA 31.05.2019 18:21 |
I've always loved Body Language and Staying Power from Hot Space. For me, they are the signature songs of Hot Space. |

It is definitely my least favorite single by Queen. Talk about killing the momentum they built in the States with The Game. |
Art Lawyer 01.06.2019 14:26 |
Really bad? Tokorozawa 1982. :) |
Vocal harmony 01.06.2019 15:43 |
There are far stronger songs on that album that would have made better singles, and had it not been a single I think it would have lived as one of those songs that become buried amongst the rest of what on an album. I guess its unusual at least within Queen's catalogue in that it has little that sounds like Queen and even the uniqueness of the hypnotic "Bass" riff is heavily "borrowed" from someone else. I don't dislike it but. . . |
Holly2003 01.06.2019 15:57 |
And then Billy Ocean stole the Body Language bass line for When the Going Gets Tough (1986). In retaliation, John stole the bass line from Diana Ross's Chain Reaction for Pain is So Close to Pleasure :) |
Vocal harmony 01.06.2019 16:12 |
Indeed. . There are so many songs that relate in some way to something else |

gandorb wrote: It is definitely my least favorite single by Queen. Talk about killing the momentum they built in the States with The Game.It was a big hit in the US, number 11 I think - better than Flash and Under Pressure. Listen to the response it gets on the 1982 US tour. |
dysan 01.06.2019 16:24 |
I think as a single it was an obvious choice. They liked releasing the most over the top tacks as singles - look at Bo Rap, Innuendo - even WWRY could be considered an eccentric choice as it basically has no instrumentation until the last quarter. |
gandorb 01.06.2019 18:05 |
I stand by my assertions about the song killing Queen's momentum in the states. Back then, most of the chart action was based on radio plays rather than sales due to most singles not selling well during that era. The huge momentum from The Game singles helped Body Language be added to almost all Top 40 stations. This helped the song initially rise in the charts but once it was thoroughly samples it died very quickly. Subsequently, the song has not garnered nearly as many downloads or streams as most of the Queen singles. It was never a well liked song then or now. |
dysan 01.06.2019 18:45 |
OK |
k-m 02.06.2019 21:58 |
It's very average, I think. Very un-Queen, in a bad way. "Dancer" would have made a much better lead single. And by the way, I don't dislike "Hot Space", I think there is some very interesting stuff there with a few really great tracks like UP, Las Palabras, POTF or "Cool Cat". |
AlbaNo1 04.06.2019 18:46 |
I used to quite like most of Hot Space it and enjoyed the vocal on Body Language in my teenage years. And Staying Power too. Now I just find both a bit of an embarrassment. I still like Dancer and Back Chat for some reason. |
Golden Salmon 04.06.2019 20:39 |
Well, there's something truly good about "Body Language": it does make the great songs even greater in comparison. Yes, definitely what Freddie had in mind. Such genius!
k-m wrote: It's very average, I think. Very un-Queen, in a bad way.Un-Queen, huh? Interesting and accurate term. |
dysan 05.06.2019 06:35 |
Id say it is VERY Queen. Certainly tongue in cheek (someone elses cheek?), certainly bombastic, fun, and reveals more with each listen. The exact point Queen went from their 70s bombast to their 80s fluff. Over egged in the direction they were taking it. |
