the guitar riff is so catchy. Its one of the first time Queen went into Disco link |
stevelondon20 24.05.2019 17:40 |
I quite like the song. Not one of my faves, but its enjoyable. |
user1 24.05.2019 19:26 |
The song "Fun It" is utter shit. |
SirAxno 24.05.2019 20:07 |
it's better than most of the songs on hot space |
Cruella de Vil 24.05.2019 21:41 |
When I bought the Jazz LP in '78, it was an instant favourite. I loved the changes between the vocals of Rog and Fred, all it needed was Mack to produce it. Who doesn't like to groove? |
Jimmy Dean 25.05.2019 03:45 |
if you like Fun It - and unfortunately i don't - but you want to listen to a band that really takes it that level successfully and is not too dissimilar to Queen's style - you should try Sparks. The are probably the most underrated band period. |
Saint Jiub 25.05.2019 04:09 |
Fun It is more Over-Hated than Under-Rated ... I quite enjoy Fun It as a joyous diversion. |

Jimmy Dean 25.05.2019 06:05 |
No “connection”... but they were active during the same eras... their music in the 70s was challenging, and had a similar dynamic as queen’s music. Clearly not as successful, mainly tongue in cheek. Listen to This Town Isn’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us - it’s sort of the road less travelled to Killer Queen. And from there I find their music sort of paralleled Queen but we’re nowhere near as good as Queen. But what they lacked in songwriting, they made up for in spontaneity. Basically, like Queen and Bowie, they were genre-bending. The only reason I bring it up is that for a “rock/pop” band they killed at disco - listen to #1 in Heaven (album). Probably one of the greatest (if not the greatest) disco albums ever produced... Driving back to my point, if you think Fun It is a great Queen song... Sparks is the band for you. |
dysan 25.05.2019 06:12 |
I know Sparks inside out - I just wondered why Fun It is in any way Sparks-like. Terminal Jive maybe? |
dysan 25.05.2019 06:14 |
But yes I totally agree about the similar dynamics and career parallels between Sparks Queen and Bowie |

I thought Roger hated disco as he moaned at "Hot Space" ? |
brandywine 25.05.2019 13:48 |
Most enjoyable when played very loud, driving very fast |

I'm a huge fan of Jazz, but not keen on Fun It. That 'vibe' was done better later - and perhaps of everything on the record that could've been the non-album B side. That said, I love it's part in the MOTJ medley - and I really think it would've added to Live Killers if they had used a version of KYA with Fun It over the intro |
Dr Magus 26.05.2019 16:51 |
Just Roger farting about with the 'E' chord innit? Like he did with MOTJ and FFTI. Quite an uninspired and mediocre trio of songs to my humble ears. |
Ale Solan 26.05.2019 19:08 |
Fun it i's a great song to take a dump. Just for that. |

I've always loved Fun It. |

Maybe that's why he hated it? He sort of brought funk to the band, then they took it and ran with it (into a wall) & he regretted starting that off in the first place??? I'm not a fan of the track myself, but it isn't my least favourite on Jazz. |
dysan 09.06.2019 07:43 |
The turgid leaden white man funk can be traced back through LITE and FFTI too. I think Fun It's crime was showing the band members that they could spend about 2 hours on a track from original idea through to final mix and make money off it rather than slaving over and developing material over months and years. |

I like it |

Bites The Dust at the time took things further away from sounding like Queen and then certain songs on Hot Space went even further than that adding horns and synth Bass lines. . . . Taking things maybe too far down that road for some fans and band members. Remember looking back these songs sound different to how the perceived difference sounded and felt at the time. If you put yourself in 1978 looking ahead to how some songs on Hot Space sounded it maybe becomes easier to understand Roger's apparent dislike of Hot Space despite introducing funk to the band. |

Taylor is a hypocrite bringing funk / disco to Queen world then slagging off Hot Space. He needs to get his priorities in order. |
Topps 12.06.2019 19:24 |
Great song. Rogers songs between Sheer Heart Attack album and Jazz were all brilliant. Especially Drowse and More Of that Jazz!! |

Inspired wrote: Taylor is a hypocrite bringing funk / disco to Queen world then slagging off Hot Space. He needs to get his priorities in order. You've already made that point . . . If you read my post (again) I don't think it's hypocritical of Roger to voice an opinion on the band's direction on that album. Queen through out their career produced their own take on different musical styles. Fun It was very much a song in the Queen style of the time which carried a funk/disco influence. As I said before it still sounded like Queen. By Hot Space they went much further down that road and let the style of music dictate how it should be recorded, almost almost forgetting their sound, jumping on the band wagon of that style of music, certain band members or maybe Mack steered the sound (and style) a long way from sounding like Queen. Roger didn't like it, Brian although more supportive of the album wasn't keen. Roger introducing a style of music to the band is very different to what they released in 1982. |
dysan 13.06.2019 15:46 |
I'm not sure Fun It is in the same style as the funk of Hot Space. Probably closer to the New Wave cool as perfected on Coming Soon. And I say that hating Fun It, but loving Coming Soon. |
Vocal harmony 14.06.2019 12:00 |
^^^^ Which is what I was saying. Roger may have introduced "funk" into the Queen catalogue but it was a million miles from anything they did on Hot Space |
dysan 14.06.2019 17:25 |
Yes I think you're right. |

Vocal Harmony: Everything they recorded sounded like Queen because it was Queen pure and simple. Hot Space was a great album and as Freddie said it would be pointless putting out another Day at The Races or Night At The Opera, they had to move on with new material and styles of sound. |

The production and musical choices sound like a cross between Micheal Jackson and Rick James more than Queen. The fact it didn't sound like Queen is the reason it didn't get a great reaction from a lot of fans. Freddie's comments about not putting out another Night At The Opera or A Day At The Races were said in defence of an album even he realised was chancy, they already had a history of each album not repeating what came before and they'd already moved away from that 75/76 period. |

The reason the fanbase (generally I mean) have a problem with it is because they would run to the hills covering their bottoms shouting POOFTER!!! at the mere mention of homosexuality. Discuss. |
dysan 17.06.2019 17:07 |
I remember the other day making a joke about a new vacuum cleaner at work - 'I expected to come back in and you'd all be in frocks singing I Want The Break Free' and mimed hoovering. One perfectly normal chap looked at me and said 'we don't want any of that shit' and genuinely looked disgusted at the thought of frocks and gayness. |

Vocal Harmony Freddie explained why Queen put out different styles of music it is because they attract different record buyers and Freddie said he loved that. Getting the music across to a different audience keeps Queen fresh and hungry for more success. |
dysan 18.06.2019 17:47 |
I think money drove their hunger for success. |
