A bit more comprehensive than expected ... Only about 20% lip service.
Unnecessary ABC correspondent and inaccurate bit "QUEEN WERE HUGE IN THE 80'S" (we know this lasted about two years of the 80's) from some cherry picked journalist w an Adam Lambert shirt.
Overall wasn't bad though. Not certain much would be desired by super fans here but the green room dressing room pre rehearsal (real or not) but it wasn't turdy
I quite enjoyed it, was good too see new stuff and not just rehashed bullshit...
But why does Gambo have to be in every documentary about the band?
Thought Brian’s comments from 1992 when he was getting interviewed made him look a very broken man.....
For anyone who has access to abc through their tv provider, you can sign in to abc and watch this now. You use your tv provider log in. If you don’t have access you’ll have to wait for torrent I guess.
Someone somewhere on QZ said it was available starting a week from now on ABC. I couldn’t find that when I wanted to reply to it. Didn’t know if it referred to subscribers or everyone. This show has been mentioned on several threads.
Anyway was just trying to be helpful. Probably just said what everybody already knows. Oh well.
I liked the documentary ... there are some nice bits and Brian's interview from 92 gives us an idea of how broke he was. For those of you waiting for a torrent, someone recorded the documentary using an iPhone camera it seems. It is not great but better than nothing. The documentary is broken in several parts. The first part is available at link and all other parts are available at: link
Some quick points:
How Did Lambert not win Idol? He was clearly the largest stage presence on there.
As I've said before, he's a very likeable person.
He is probably the kind of larger than life character that Brian and Roger need on stage with them at this point in their lives.
But sorry, musically, it does nothing for me. I watched a video* of Rog & Brian singing Days of Our Lives in Japan in 2014 and the magic is still there. When I watch Lambert singing Queen songs the magic is missing. It was the same with Paul Rodgers, despite his vocal pedigree.

^Yo. Although I'm not the greatest fan of his and he looked like a potato with a wig, he was a better singer than most but even this doc states a "grassroots" group that had promoted that he was gay and that just takes out a huge chunk of the phony bible belt preachers in the Midwest. I don't know what the largest percentage of American idol voters were, since it was popular among kids as well at that time, but my guess is that'd it'd be the "average middle American" from the middle ages.
(Pun intended)
I DO remember some controversy about that, people locating old photos of Lambert being gay and it's far reaching consequences when promoted as depraved etc, (why else would it staff attention??) but it's probably better for him that he didn't get stuck in a cowell contract at the time.
Not a fan of "his" music either but clearly his career benefited from that.
Despite the cheap attention seeking hijinks that only a 70 year old Madonna would do, and despite floundering interest/sales. ..at least he got a great paying gig with an established band
****ANYWAYS***
WASN'T ALL THAT CRAP ALREADY COVERED (in the film)???
Thank you for the upload I have seen Queen + AL a number of times and it is entertainment, it is what it is, I loved Freddie but he's gone and standing there watching thousands of people enjoying the show probably means the music and those songs are bigger than Queen as a physical entity. I look forward to watching this.
thanks for the link !
will be downloading and watching this evening.
I'm one of those who changed their mind about this Q+AL story after the last time I saw them live 3 years ago.
No, this is not Queen and never will be, and Adam can be too histrionic on stage for my liking.
But he's a good entertainer and seems to be genuinely a nice guy.
And Brian & Roger, my heroes, are enjoying it so much and still hitting the road. So bring it on !
I thought it was good. AL is DEFFO a bit much, a tacky version of what is required for Queen IMO but the doc was a good watch and I think on the whole honest. I enjoyed the show I saw in 2012 and will probably catch them next time out
