Funny i went to the west coast premiere of that last year during the EGYPTIAN THEATER'S err AMERICAN CINEMATHEQUES "BEYONDFEST"... (just look up BEYONDFEST... last year's shows featured a DAVID CRONENBERG couple of weeks and book signing. Also THIS I forget where the original post was but search. QZ for BEYONDFEST and you'll find my initial reactions to it. It was pretty great but didn't feature anything by Ornella Muti (looove her sexy @$$ hottednessness) Greatest bit of interest for die hard QUEEN fans was the part discussed in like the 4th segment about themusic... Brian plays the FLASH theme just by himself and on piano. It's a really beautiful treat |

Yeah I think I remember it coming up before. Totally forgot about it. Gonna have to buy both formats. |

Here i am making a stupid face and regretting it later cause the guy i have my. Phone to couldn't take a good photo. Even Sam looks kinda odd here. That dude was funny as hell and his "life's story" is interesting to say the least. Helluva kind hearteded dude that's wanting to do right with the rest of his days. That documentary is extremely recommended for anybody who loves the film. BRIAN BLESSED steals the film. He's fucking hilarious |

Guess ut didn't attach Anyways ..one more bit. Sam Jones wouldn't leave until everybody that wanted a photo/chat/talk or autograph from/with him went away with a smile on their face. That dude is a very kind gentleman. Totally loved his commitment to that. ... at a convention they'd charge an arm and a leg but he was so gracious to TALK to every fan about every theory, quirk or oddity. nice guy. |

Checking out the details of each release here, you can see the length and brief description of each individual extra - they could well all be very different, thus necessitating buying both dvd and blu ray to get all the bits with/about a Brian and the soundtrack. The bit headed ‘Howard Blake on Brian May and Disney’ sound intriguing! link |

It's strange that it was loving Flash at the time that got me into Queen. Listened to the track on the GH LP and eventually listening to other tracks. If SSOR was not the track after Flash on it, I might not have wanted to investigate further. It grabbed me instantly. I also remember collecting the Flash Gordon cards in Weetabix. Good days. |

That's horrible. They're scamming the FLASH fans now? Why shouldn't all extras be included? |

I got this a few weeks ago and I love it!!! If you like a behind the scenes look at the making of movies then this is a great film about Flash Gordon. The guy's who collect the memorabilia are very interesting to hear from but the story of Sam J. Jones is very interesting indeed! Just the crap that went on during the filming and how during the Christmas break from filming he never returned. Great interviews from cast members and production folks! |

DVD or Blu Ray? I'm tempted to ask for a rip of the bonus stuff so I can get the other format (and do the same for you) but I'm thinking I should 'support my local Flash documentary maker' :/ |
Hangman_96 03.05.2019 18:53 |
I finally got round to watching Flash Gordon not so long ago, after so many years of trying to force myself to do it. That was literally the most horrible film I've seen to date. |
dysan 03.05.2019 20:35 |
I agree that seeing it for the first time in 2019 might be disappointing. |

It helps if you're familiar with the kind of sci-fi films people saw in the '30s and '40s, especially the original Flash Gordon-serials from that period. The whole movie is a tongue-in-cheek tribute to that era of filmmaking. If you're expecting 'modern' (post-1950s) sci-fi, you're definitely going to be disappointed. It's not for everyone, sure, but I think the attitude with which you see it makes a considerable difference. |
Sebastian 07.05.2019 20:07 |
I loved it, even though I know absolutely nothing about 1930's films. And Ted made me love it even more. |
thomasquinn 32989 08.05.2019 09:42 |
I'm glad to see that you loved it, but I'd wager that if you'd watch some of the '30s Flash-films and then saw it again, you'd like it even more. |

Life After Flash: It was good. I got it for the insight into the making of film of course rather than what Mr Jones did after and there was more than enough of that. Nice to see the old props and production photos. Was also worried that it was going to be one of those docs that ruins the magic of the thing it is reporting on and there was a bit of that, but it goes with the territory. A few talking heads missing naturally which didn't detract from it overall. Would love to have the original 1980s FG TV spot interview footage in better quality - and hopefully someone will dig out the deleted scenes discussed. The bonus features on the DVD feel a bit slight despite there being a lot of them (a minute or 2 here and there - perhaps could've been lumped into to larger bonus films) but I'm happy with it. |

Gawd I forgot about this. I was going to get the other disc (Bluray) for the different bonus stuff but obviously totally slipped my mind. |
