The Queen in 3D book was out ages ago as was the "New Horizons" Cd so puzzled why Brian was promoting them? At some point BM and RT may be interested in releasing new material or finding material in existing archives that can be released with some updating--it's a fair assumption their fans both old and new would enjoy new material. They have a lot to work with if they're feeling so inclined. I assume it's not only about the money because they could earn a lot (and still do) without having to travel, tour, or do much of anything. John D. does quite well with the royalties and part ownership of the rights. But playing is what they know, and they seem to enjoy it, and being a star and having people listen to whatever you say, has its perks. Think about the Rolling Stones still touring (they'll get back to it once Mick is healed). They have no need for the money, but I think they quite like the applause and still being relevant. Besides, if no one trotted out Keith Richards on stage how would anyone *really* know he's still alive? |

I can't speak for Rolling Stone fans or their feelings, but I have heard Keith made a comment that they'll tour as long as Charlie Watts can or will. My assumption is that if Mick weren't around anymore or couldn't tour due to health, they wouldn't tour and that would be that. But then again Jagger is in his 70s, as are they all, so it's not like they haven't had a *very* long career of tours, not just 2 decades, but over 5. And as long as they are alive and able they can continue to make music if they want. As for Bri & Rog, If you're world-wide famous and prolific musicians and you still enjoy performing, and people still want to hear you play and see you perform, then why stop doing the thing you love to do if it brings meaning and joy? I think performing under the 'Queen' banner is what is a big trigger for folks. I get it and understand why. |

Actually, fair point - if there are loads of out takes from any 70s album (say, like the raw takes / some of the 2011 bonus material - just drums, bass, guitar, vocals 'as live' in the studio) would we prefer they released them as they are, or with RT and BM finishing them, or at least adding new parts to make them more palatable? I think I'd go for release them as is. Even if they are missing the vocal I'd really love to hear them - the stuff we have from conventions is generally great. Who knows - maybe I'd go so far as to suggest flying in a vocal take from the released version if the backing is suitably different. I dunno I'm sure they've thought of everything. I obviously did read your post. You said there was loads of stuff left over. You didn't talk about how advanced or not it may have been, I did and anything that they decide to use, if there is anything, would need more than just a very rough vocal and a reasonable quality recording. As i said I doubt there is much usable material from that album left. Most of the songs they recorded took ages particularly vocally and guitar wise so I think stuff that wasn't deemed suitable was dumped early on. |
