I love it. Bass line great. Guitar work great. Why do people not like it? It is almost definitive. (ok, programmed drums sound shit..) |
matt z 17.03.2019 20:10 |
I don't know. I love it. Even if it's a rip off of that Candi Staton song "Young hearts are free" Maybe it's cause others seem to think that you're overdramatizing problems at work. So, it's hardly surprising. |
dysan 17.03.2019 20:15 |
Happy memories of this song. Very happy. |
stevendabudgie 17.03.2019 20:21 |
The song reminds me of an instrumental part in "Let's Dance", starting at 2:56 link |
mooghead 17.03.2019 20:24 |
Not only would I make the link work, I would make it start at the point you are trying to make. |
mika251 17.03.2019 20:32 |
My favourite "positive" song. Reminds me that shity days come and go. Love it. |
stevendabudgie 17.03.2019 20:59 |
@mogghead the link works here in Germany link |
cobohall 17.03.2019 21:19 |
Embarrassing where Queen has gone at times. Listened to it for the first time in almost 30 years, in case I was missing something. It's a crap song and only slightly better than this link |
stevelondon20 17.03.2019 22:13 |
Couldn't agree more with Moog. I love the song!! |
Khizzy 17.03.2019 23:13 |
One of my favourites on The Miracle, which automatically makes it one of my favourite Queen songs of the 1980s. Brings back memories of listening to the album for the first time in early 1995 when I was in year 10 at school. |
Jimmy Dean 18.03.2019 03:59 |
well, relative to the Queen catalog - it's weak. relative to their 80s output minus The Game, it's average-to above average. In no way is it bad. In fact, within the Miracle i rank it right after I Want It All, The Miracle, Breakthru and Was it All Worth It. (smack in the middle not counting bonus). slick production, refreshing and unexpected. Also, a nod to Who Needs You, in my opinion. My Baby Does Me, on the other hand... |

Pain is So Close To Pleasure, Don't Lose Your Head & Machines come to mind. Don't Lose Your Head mainly because of its message in relation to Highlander, in that the only way for a Highlander to die is if he loses his head.... wow. (...Don't drink and drive your car, don't get breathalyzed... ) |
Cruella de Vil 18.03.2019 05:06 |
Look at the song in the context of the album: something light, poppy, easy to listen to. In its intent, not much different to Misfire, Leroy Brown, Lazing..., and even Delilah Love it or leave it. |
dysan 18.03.2019 07:56 |
I think My Baby Does Me is really dodging a bullet here. I can't listen to Queen objectively sadly. If it brings me happiness by association, it's good. RMF, like many of the tracks from 1989 are skippers though because I don't want to ruin my memory of them. When it's sunny and it feels right, I'll listen and pretend I'm 12 again. This happens once every 24 months. For example, if RMF as on the OST and got a spin in the office, I'd walk out. |
no_stairway 18.03.2019 08:14 |
Like it or not, that was the way they constructed eclectic albums. They didn't do the record with 11 hitmans, was it all worth it or princess of the universe on it. J.Deacon wrote easy listening songs, you're my best friend, need your loving, i want to break free, pain is so close to pleasure, friend will be friends (i know, corighted), rain must fall - some of them were better, some became hits, but the main direction was the same all the time. the only thing i don't stand - these casio style programmed drums, it's a crap. they sound cheap. |
Invisible Woman 18.03.2019 08:57 |
I like it, especially Brian's guitar and Freddie's vocal. |
dysan 18.03.2019 09:08 |
I dunno - I think the 'cheap' drum sound was a stylistic thing, like the production of the rest of the record. It WAS 1989 after all. In 1989, it all sounded like what Queen should sound like in 1989. |
dysan 18.03.2019 09:09 |
But also yes - If that had been the second or even 3rd single in summer '89 I can imagine it being a good commercial hit. |
cmsdrums 18.03.2019 16:36 |
If you listen to the percussion loop that opens Rain Must Fall and the start of the John Deacon/The Immortals track 'No Turning Back', from Biggles, they are very very similar. I guess John must have had at least some input to Rain Must Fall as it almost samples some of his earlier track. |
dysan 18.03.2019 17:54 |
Almost identical. And after listening back to No Turning Back, lets all be thankful Queen had already blown their 80s synth horn load 7 years earlier. |
coops 19.03.2019 05:02 |
I like it too. Great intro, vocal and guitar. Catchy melody but some corny lyrics. Never thought lyrics were Queen's strong point anyway, for the most part. |
Nathan H 19.03.2019 07:09 |
Rain Must Fall is a rubbish song in my opinion but I may be beginning to like it more than I used to. However, I love listening to a similar song from around the same time; Don't Lose Your Head. It's quite a repetitive song but it's got a great sound to it - it really fills a room unlike Rain Must Fall. Don't Lose Your Head has a degree of heaviness throughout with the use of *real* drums and guitar. To summarise Don't Lose Your Head in three words: I love it. |
stevelondon20 19.03.2019 07:15 |
DLYH is a great song. I prefer RMF though. |
dysan 19.03.2019 07:52 |
Having heard A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling first, when I finally heard DLYH I found it disappointing. All the oddness and groove was gone and instead those weak lyrics softened it. The first recorded case of me telling disinterested friends that I preferred the original version on the b-side. Yep, I became 'that guy'. Still waiting for Hoxton to discover and remix ADRRFMD to rip a hole in dancefloors and the charts. |
Dim 19.03.2019 09:13 |

Dim 19.03.2019 09:32 |
The lyrics Don't drink and drive my car Don't get breathalised on DLYH is for John Deacon. He got a ticket for driving drank Roger's car. Also The title for ADRRFMD came after Roger thanked joan armatrading for her backing vocals on DLYH by giving her a dozen red roses. Rain must fall is shit. I remember during '89 the Miracle was promoted as an album with classic sound with all Queen elements. Back to Rock, live atmosphere and fresh. Then party, the invisible man, my baby does me and rain must fall destroyed the expectations. Having unreleased songs like Face it alone, affairs, a new life is born, I guess we re falling out. They preferred to present their comeback with those shitty songs. They only managed to sound fresh with few songs and great guitar despite the bad choices. |
dysan 19.03.2019 12:09 |
I'm pretty sure I Want It All was promoted like that. The actual album was more 'It's the new funky fresh sound of 1989! Queen!' |
Vocal harmony 19.03.2019 13:21 |
^^^ exactly. I think it was Brian who said that the new album had elements of what had come previously, neither a fresh approach. |
RobbyBloodshed 20.03.2019 03:46 |
Absolutely love this track. The key change especially and Brian’s ending solos are so epic. |
Martin Packer 20.03.2019 10:54 |
From the "Queen For An Hour" interview Roger said they took out lots of percussion overdubs to make room for vocals (and maybe guitars). So I'm guessing this song was Roger's. And, FWIW, I rather like it. |
Sunshine 20.03.2019 11:06 |
I absolute loathe this track, an immediate skipping moment. Weak lyrics, cheap drum sound, just bad songwriting. I would rate this on the same level as Body Language, Dancer and Cool Cat. This song aged so bad. |

Haha! he was drunk |
aristide1 20.03.2019 14:52 |
First he sniffed the fuel and after he drank Roger's car. That's consistent with Brian's version of how John quit the band as the result of substance abuse disorder. Because only a mentally disturbed person could reject a lucrative association with someone as cute as Brian. Tickle tickle Bri. Rain Must Fall is another Mr.Bad Guy song in Queen dresses, appealing to those innocents who think Mr.Bad Guy would have been a great Queen album. Apparently not the case. |
la_ultra_zona 20.03.2019 15:22 |
Great solo. Too bad the early fade cuts some interesting bits... (some tapping I guess) |
aristide1 20.03.2019 15:36 |
That's a good one. Not only these songs are "underrated" (?) but they are "early cut". You are so desperate to prove there is more to them than actually is, that I imagine Pope, Childress and Tsoukalos could make a television series with this subject. |
dysan 20.03.2019 16:21 |
I was just thinking that exact same thing. |
Martin Packer 22.03.2019 12:43 |
RMF lyrics have become more relevant to me over time. And I always liked the percussion overdubs, and the bass. |
Toozeup 24.03.2019 18:47 |
The Miracle is a weak album full-stop. It's saving grace is the title track and "Was it all Worth it". |

I was going to say it's very The Miracle weather here in London at the moment. Was going to chance it and give it a listen, but these first flushes of sunny days call for Body Language first for cool shades strutting. Need to set the background control levels first before going full The Miracle. |
dysan 26.03.2019 11:25 |
This rarely happens before Tit Monday. |
PrimeJiveUSA 28.03.2019 01:42 |
I've always loved this song. One of the best songs on The Miracle. |
katman 29.03.2019 17:05 |
It's my least favourite from The Miracle. Does anyone else think the similarity to "Young Hearts" is too close for comfort? |
Toozeup 29.03.2019 22:38 |
It's probably the best of all the Deacon/Mercury co-compositions, which, isn't saying much really :/ |
