I know, it's something from the Mail (collective groan - lol), but in reading through it, it was interesting to see Prenter's brother claiming that the band did break up, and it was Paul who helped bring them back together for Live Aid. Has anyone else heard about this version of events?
The writer did put bad info near the beginning of the piece (Bo Rhap winning 5 Oscars, including Best Pic...smh), so maybe other parts of the article are incorrect or misquoted?
I think Lee and Thor in their threads had also said there was nothing romantic between Freddie and Paul, so those parts of the article are in agreement.
But any general thoughts about Paul and how his family felt he was portrayed?
I don't think the film implies there was ever a sexual relationship between Paul and Freddie. It only includes that one attempt at a kiss.
But I can definitely see why the family would be unhappy about the film and would want to stand up for their relative. Paul is portrayed as the "baddie" completely.
I have no idea the full truth of what Paul was like and what he did for good and/or for bad, but I understand their wanting to stand up for their relative.
Regarding Paul stopping the band from breaking up/bringing them together for Live Aid, I have to question... how exactly would the family know this information?
The prenter family are devious irish twats and by the time Live Aid came around Queen and Freddie were long finished with Paul,
so more lies and the Prenters are trying to gain some respect by assuming Queens magnificent performance was down to there lying cheating scumbag son
who got the band back together after Paul had back stabbed Freddie by going to the press with all his lies after Fred sacked him.
Take that with a pinch of salt guys and never trust a Prenter,
Why was he fired? I haven’t been able to get that information. I understand why they did this, though. A movie that was seen by many people showed a man as a villain that isn’t here to defend himself.
When exactly did Queen split up according to them? In May 1985 after the Works Tour, but only two months before Live Aid. Or perhaps at some point during the tour? I say this is just as much bullshit as the part of the film that deals with this period of time.

I think tensions got high between them prior to Live Aid. They all got bored (especially Roger) during The Works Tour as it started to lose its energy. The tour duration was more than eight months long so they must've all got bored playing similar setlists every night and tiring as they played many shows during this period.
After Live Aid, it hyped them up again. They were on the verge of splitting but it might've been just a long break like between AKOM and The Miracle. Or another possibility is that Freddie suspected that he might've had aids before recording the AKOM album as he was the most keen to record the album. He also gave lots of hints to the band throughout the Magic Tour such as admitting that he had less energy than he used to.
Like the actor who played Paul Prenter in the movie said, real people are rarely completely evil or completely good. So I can understand the pain of Prenter's family at seeing someone they loved portrayed as a villain. There are two things I agree with in this Prenter article:
1) we don't know the full story because Prenter isn't here to tell his side of the story nor is he able to defend himself
2) if it is true that Prenter's parents were supportive if him being gay then it is wrong if the movie to have depicted them as being homophobic, one has to respect that family support
This is not to say that Prenter was not a negative influence in many ways, but just for us fans of Queen to not blindly accept a certain powerfully voiced narrative that this film presents.
Prenter was originally associated with John Reid's organization amd worked with Queen in that capacity. He later became manager for Queen, but was let go by the band, apparently because he paid too much attention to Freddie's needs to the detriment of the rest of the band. After being released by Queen Prenter was put on Freddie's payroll as his personal assistant. According to Phoebe, Freddie allowed Paul to live in his Stafford Terrace flat. Prenter threw a party at Stafford Terrace during which the flat was trashed and Paul was fired by Freddie.

Prenter was the band's personal assistant not their manager. Jim Beach moved from Reads employment to become their manager.
During his time with the band Prenter acted in a more and more dominant way. As a first point of contact he started saying no to interview and TV appearance requests without management or band knowledge.
He sided with Freddie on many issues and when Jim Beach and the band had enough he somehow convinced Freddie to employ him.
When Freddie terminated that arrangement Prenter went to the press with his tales of whatever.
