Queen London, UK Hyde Park 9.18.1976 (Audio Tape Upgrade) This is mostly flutter reduction upgrade for the poor audio quality tape that suffer from quite a lot of flutter. For now the audio tape is mostly free from flutter issue and i was able to remove tons of them. But even i tried my best to removed all of them there are few flutter that was just to strong for being removed so they ended up being at least reduced, some more and some less. Except flutter reduction i did click, clip and crackle clean up to reduce the dissortion issue at least little bit. Some EQ was done as well to reduce the muffled sound and bring some "air" to it but keep the nice warm touch that the audio have (and not boost the hiss too much as well). Thanks to kurgan who gave me some lossy samples i was able to patch few of the "tape dying" issue. The result are that the audio is still far from perfect but the improvements make the audio more enjoyable. Special THANKS goes to Kurgan who gave me sources and for all who gave me feedback in previus thread. Video Preview: File info: Flac (24bit Pcm) 44100Hz, 1058kbps 465mb Sources: 1. kurgan mono transfer 2. Few lossy mono samples to patch problems(obtained by kurgan) 3. wardour latest source to fill the intro speech 4. Unkown video feed to make the outro speech longer Setlist: Bob Harris + intro (tape) (Cut) Bohemian Rhapsody (Tape/Rock) Ogre Battle Sweet Lady White Queen (As It Began) Flick Of The Wrist You're My Best Friend Bohemian Rhapsody (ballad) Killer Queen March Of The Black Queen Bohemian Rhapsody (reprise) Bring Back That Leroy Brown Brighton Rock guitar Solo Son And Daughter '39 You Take My Breath Away The Prophet's Song Stone Cold Crazy Keep Yourself Alive Liar In The Lap Of The Gods...revisited ending speech (cut) Total Lenght: 1:23:51 Download Link: Audio: link Video: As promised here is a video synchronized version. I tried my best to synch. the audio with chief mouse video version properly and keep everything in "order". The track is in flac and its set to be default(upgrade synch, eng) link |

Nice. Thanks a lot, Marlamir. |

I checked and downloaded the demo version of the software and realised that it was by bits of seven seconds that the restored audio could be heard with the demo version. This means it must have taken ages to restore this show! Thank you. I'm downloading right now. |

Nice one! Thank you :) |

Sounds great! I've always hated that flutter on the tape. |

Very nice quality, thank you! We should have gotten an official release by now, so we might as well take what we can get. |
pittrek 27.02.2019 12:31 |
I am extremely confused. What was changed? Could you do some simple before/after comparison? You know, a 5 seconds of "before" followed by 5 seconds of "after". So that people could actually hear what the upgrade is and what have you done? Thanks |

pittrek 27.02.2019 13:31 |
Where? It begins with 17 seconds of BoRhap, is followed by the same 17 seconds of BoRhap and then it plays The Prophet's Song |
Thistle 27.02.2019 13:32 |
He already did do that, and the differences are clear. It's a nice upgrade. Far from perfect, but that's not Marlamir's fault - he's made the best of what is available. Thanks again :) |

Thanks again :)In the case you think this was some type of a sneaky criticism of Marlamir's work, absolutely not. The Kurgan wrote: It's the same 17 seconds repeated? The second version has the hiss louder, that's the only thing I noticed, that's why I'm asking if somebody could do a proper comparison so that I know what I should concentrate on |
. 27.02.2019 13:55 |
It's the wow and flutter you need to concentrate on, dedicated software was used to try and reduce it. link |
Marlamir 27.02.2019 14:02 |
@Pittrek As kurgan said flutter is what you need to concentrate on. This project is from 80% flutter reduction and 20% muffled reduction. For better noticed, put your headphones on and put the volume bit louder. Honestly if you still didn't hear the difference than you should make sure that your ears are healthy :D (don't take this as hate or something) Also thank you guys for your comments :) |

And no, I didn't see it as a criticism. You're honesty is not being questioned. When I said it was a nice upgrade, I'm basically saying trust the majority who have posted their thanks - download it (doesn't take long) and listen to it thoroughly. You'll be pleasantly surprised. That's what I was getting at :) |

I have downloaded the audio files and heard the musical works and performances contained therein. Many thanks for posting these. Really appreciated! However, I could not help noticing that some of that cherished genuinely '70s tape flutter on these masterful renditions is now missing. I shall try to restore it for my next project. |

Thistle 27.02.2019 18:25 |
Wilki surely is having a wee giggle to himself. @Pittrek - have you downloaded/listened yet? What are your thoughts now? |
Biggus Dickus 27.02.2019 18:40 |
Great work. You've certainly managed to eliminate most of the flutter. |

Idk if Wilki having laugh but i surely had one, awesome post :D @Chief Mouse You welcome sir glad you like it. |
Wilki Amieva 28.02.2019 17:10 |
Not at all! I'm dead serious... I've done it before: link |
. 02.03.2019 08:43 |
If you feel the wow and flutter is now below an acceptable level, then perhaps the pinch roller in your hard drive needs adjustment. I'm not sure this would be within your area of expertise though, as that seems to be in kick drum restoration. |
. 02.03.2019 08:43 |
By the way Wilki, unrelated, but I asked a question at the bottom of this thread but perhaps you didn't see it? link |
Wilki Amieva 02.03.2019 18:52 |
Hmmm... I will have to check the azimuth of my SDDs, thanks! Yes, I'm quite a master at bass drum reinstatement. I'm glad you've noticed that! The HARD part was to get the actual isolated bass drum from the vaults, though: link Fortunately, Joshua J. Macrae's family decided to pay the ransom. Good for them. |
Wilki Amieva 02.03.2019 21:34 |
BTW, answered the good old question in the other thread. |
Wilki Amieva 03.03.2019 14:10 |
Going back to what was shared here, it is indeed a big improvement. Thanks, Marlamir! |

Certainly makes the whole thing more listenable, good work. |

Marlamir, a while back I sent the author of the software a link to your corrected sample on YouTube and asked his advice on if it could still be improved upon.
I have just received a reply from him.
This is in no way knocking your work, but his comments might be of interest to you.
hendrixfan1995 Oh yeah that can definitely be reduced. Probably 16k FFT size, big overlap, peak traces over the bass frequencies. I'm currently adding several new features that make more complicated tasks easier, like locking lots of short traces to the same frequency. So you can individually trace separate notes that should have the same frequency, and then join them afterwards. |
Marlamir 05.03.2019 20:54 |
Nice, That's great to see it can be done even more to it but i don't think i will came back to it thought. Thanks for letting me know about it. |
. 05.03.2019 21:04 |
No problem man. |
peckery 07.03.2019 20:03 |
Just listened to "White Queen" which was one of the worst songs before, for wow-flutter. Yes, it seems to be much improved - well done and thanks ! My biggest desire, Queen-wise, is for a good copy of the filmed concert (ideally the original footage) - I remember the BBC News item about the gig that evening in 1976 ! |
peckery 07.03.2019 22:31 |
It would be great if this audio remaster (best audio version) could be merged with the best video version ! At the moment, I can't really watch the full video because the wow-and-flutter is just too irritating... |
Marlamir 09.03.2019 13:43 |
@peckery Thank you very much for your comment. Maybe i will add second audio track to the chief mouse processed version if that would worth it, idk. |
peckery 13.03.2019 12:23 |
"Maybe i will add second audio track to the chief mouse processed version" - that would be great if that could be done. Synchronising the audio with the video might be tricky if your remaster has changed the speed/length of the recording, but maybe that can be overcome..... |
Gregsynth 13.03.2019 12:47 |

@gregsynth Thank you greg, i'm really happy that you like it. Small update. I believe that today i will finish synch. the audio which is bitt tricky since there is a lot of synch. issue shorter than half of second and added as 2nd track to chief mouse video version and tomorow i will post a link into main post if something goes right |
Marlamir 17.03.2019 19:14 |
Update 2: it's turned that mkv merge works way faster than i expect so i will be able post a link in less than 3 hours for those who interested. Another boring update: Video is uploaded. see main post for link. hope you will like it. |
Thistle 17.03.2019 22:55 |
Thanks for your efforts Marlamir, however the download link appears to be for Antiden's old video version and not CM's clean-up version. Unless I've made a mistake somewhere? |
Marlamir 18.03.2019 11:19 |
It should be the chief mouse corrected version since it was taken from here: link I just removed for some reason the enhancement from the video file name so it could be bitt confusing and drive player looks like playing first audio track instead of 2nd one set to default. |
Thistle 18.03.2019 14:53 |
Okay, thanks for the info. I'll download, but did try watching the file first through the drive player and it does look like older version too. Maybe it was some streaming problem. Looking forward to seeing the whole thing - and thanks again :) |
peckery 18.03.2019 21:52 |
I've seen the first 24 mins and its very good ! Well done and many thanks, Marlamir, its the best, "number One" version of this famous concert ! Thanks also to Antiden and Chief Mouse for the best-version video. A match (audio/video) made in Heaven ! |
Thistle 18.03.2019 23:59 |
Yeah, must have been a streaming issue for me as the download is awesome!! Really happy with this :) |
Marlamir 19.03.2019 15:07 |
@Peckery Thank you very much for your lovely comment @Thistle Glad you like it anyway i don't think that was streaming issue, it's looks like drive player downgrading the quality for online play since i having quality issue in drive player for more videos as well |
MackMantilla 19.03.2019 15:49 |
Nice, thank you. I think I could author a BD of this :-) |
katman 30.03.2019 00:30 |
To be honest, i used to struggle to get through this with all the warbling - it's a revelation to hear the performance that was masked by the sound issues. |
