Will they just (predictably) perform Bohemian Rhapsody or will they attempt a truncated medley of the Live Aid set? |
Nathan H 22.02.2019 08:26 |
I reckon they could potentially do those ideas but there's one song that I've got higher in my list of potentially songs they could perform; Somebody To Love. If they've only got five minutes to do a song, the full version of Bohemian Rhapsody won't seem the best idea especially with the opera section in the middle they would have to either walk of stage and them come back on or do another rendition of a song (though there probably isn't enough time to do a full song). I think if there's a more general audience, who don't necessary know Queen songs, they might rather hear Somebody To Love. But I could be wrong with my theory... |
dysan 22.02.2019 09:51 |
WWRY from 1982 or possibly FBG in full 1974 regalia. Or LOML in its famous 1979 Rock in Rio guise. Or the single version of SSOR from the very first Queen studio recording. Or LOASA (Bulsara Front Room Version) |
dysan 22.02.2019 09:52 |
I think Adam will come on stage and say 'day-o'. And a lone AIDS patient will respond 'day-o'. |

Adam Lambert has reportedly said on Instagram that it's a song they've performed many times. So if true they are only going to be playing one song. |

They could attempt a medley of Bo Rap & Killer Queen (as they did in London on New Year's Day some years ago) (but I'm afraid it won't happen) My personal guess is either Somebody To Love or Don't Stop Me Now |

That gives me an idea to try to arrange a Spinney tribute at the Egyptian this year. FOLLOW THAT BIRD was a big thing and risky back then. Thanks. Lol @ Gimme the Prize. Do you seriously think a guy who takes the care of his voice he does would deliberately take up smoking just to try to improve his low register? It's already naturally improved anyway just because of age, the male voice doesn't mature until around 36/37. |

Agreed, I understand it might be tough with how things would work, but they maybe could have found a way to go trough a quick shot of John while Freddie was started to be showed on the big screen, but that could have been too difficult or complicated considering all circumstances they had to deal with. I was hoping they would do Bo Rhap ballad segment, like in the first tour with Adam, with the second segment sang by Freddie on the big screen, it would be great IMO. But they haven’t been doing it even on the shows anymore, so my hope wasn’t realistic : ) Still, like I said, it was great for the meaning of it, and fitting with the little tribute in the end. That matters more than any specific preferences |

There's an irony to all of this, which Rami sort of touched on in his speech. He said Freddie unapologetically lived life his way, lived his truth, but Freddie couldn't come out in those days because of how being gay was perceived and how it might affect his career and the band's career and everything that goes with that kind of revelation. And here we are in 2019 and there are many, many rumors about Rami's sexuality and that his "romance" with Lucy is fake. I mean it's out there everywhere. And what's sad is if it's true, we haven't come very far in society. If Rami has to stay in the closet and pretend to be straight for whatever reasons, he's not living his truth. In 27 years not that much as changed in some ways... |

Regarding the rumours I haven't seen anything in the mainstream media but on blind item sites the rumours are there. A lot of Hollywood actors are still scared of coming out and it affecting the roles they get offered, you'd think they would be a lot more progressive in film/tv these days but it seem they aren't in America or maybe they would be if enough of them all came out, it's sort of changing slowly. I agree with NeverTooLate if it is true, nobody should have to hide who they really are. |
Sheldon 25.02.2019 09:26 |
I feel like the proverbial dog that has seen the rainbow and all the other dogs don't have a clue what he is talking about. It's fantastic that Queen/Freddie get so much publicity. Rami seems like a nice guy and I don't mind good things happening to him. But there is absolutely no way he should have won an Oscar, the most prestigious film award there is, for this performance. For half of the film he was nowhere near resembling Freddie and even in the other half the brilliant moments were not that many. If this was an Oscar-worthy performance, how bad would a non-Oscar-worthy performance have been??? |

My TV feed to the ABC network is awful and I was very happy to have found a live stream last night so I could watch it. I think the win for Rami was a sentimental one as much for Queen/Freddie. I agree Rami's part wasn't comprised of that much "acting" as much as it was a physical movement and lip synching role. He didn't look just like Freddie, the other actors ironically looked closer to their real counterparts, with Joe M. looking like a clone of Deacy. It was eerie how alike they look. I think Rami did very well with the material he was given to work with and he certainly did his very best, but he's no male counterpart to Meryl Streep in terms of acting in this film. A big part of that is probably the script. So he was the feel-good fave to win plus his team and studio put a ton of $$$ into marketing and courting Oscar votes, as that is a very important part of the game of winning an Oscar. I haven't seen the other movies to compare performances. |

>"Roger" in the film looked like shit. Not even close to being believable I dare say. The wigs in particular were horribly done for 'Roger' which were a distraction. Deacy & May were represented well by their actors, with an uncanny likeness by each in their full hair, costume and makeup. Rami just couldn't achieve that kind of likeness with Freddie, there were many differences physically. The eye color was off, he's much shorter, his voice and accent were not similar, the fake teeth were ridiculous on Rami and made him look like a cartoon character. It looked like he struggled at times to keep those teeth in his mouth. |

I agree the movie wasn't good. And don't get me wrong: I really love Queen and enjoyed the music. But the rest was cringe-worthy. It was like an extended music video with some sad manufactured scenes in between the music and a few comedy bits in there too. But it wasn't a cohesive story, just sort of cobbled together is the way it felt to me. I personally would prefer to more in-depth study of F.M. and what a complex man he was. But that's me and I realize most of the world is happy with a somewhat shallow biopic/music video. |
