I've been on and off this video for many years. Now the time has come and I can present you Live Aid the way I had long imagined. The main issue is the interference (Live Aid booklet calls it microphony) which shows up as horizontal moving green or red lines not to mention thin grey lines running through many of the scenes as well. Basically this is not a colour only issue, if you would make the image greyscale, the lines show up much brighter than the rest of the image. That's where the problems start. Long story short, I figured out how to separate colour channels and did heavy processing as well as some manual work at the end putting everything back together. Also reduced some chromatic aberration. As always, the result is quite a compromise, a digital illusion if you will, but one well worth watching. If some parts look heavily filtered, it's because they are. But if you're just gonna watch it without analysing too much, you'll be fine. Oh, and I also included the introductory bits before the main set and before ITTWWC as well. Audio, now it has 4 streams. * FM + DVD Mix - default track. Basically FM broadcast for everything except the ending of CLTCL, WWRY (I like the loud audience in the DVD mix) and ITTWWC to avoid feedback and other audible technical issues on the radio broadcast. The remaining ones are pretty self explanatory. * DVD * BBC FM * Audience Special thanks to Simon (Nitroboy) for making and syncing these audio tracks and making chapters for the video. Thanks to Jordan (Chinwonder) for sending me footage for the intros. https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/bc4f/boq8oeq89tytt677g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/b0cc/6sa7dqzsog5qr9j7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/219c/s3fhywnqyyenny97g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/706c/ebr84gpq7x1qtgp7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/d169/roa6o2r78ertdlo7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/77cb/znb2ur9o166uoqa7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/c9f6/bwtz2o7ge2x77at7g.jpg" border="0" alt="Simple, Free Image and File Hosting at MediaFire" /> link . Thanks to Chief Mouse, Nitroboy and Chinwonder2 !!! '90s kids show the world how it's done :) This might be the best version forever and ever. Watching this with the audience audio track is very satisfying! |

I'm sure most of us would prefer the original bootleg mix, if given the choice. Brilliant job with Live Aid, as always ! |

Fantastic work as usual. Especially impressed how you got rid of the microphony, even if it did come with the slight dip in PQ; definitely worth it imo. Perhaps the next challenge could be dealing with the infrequent comet trails? I'd like to see someone come up with a fix for THAT! link |

Many thanks for your attemtps. However, I don't like that "clean instagram filter/photoshop" look. I'm glad QP doesn't proceed this way. |

user1 wrote: Many thanks for your attemtps. However, I don't like that "clean instagram filter/photoshop" look. I'm glad QP doesn't proceed this way.As I said, it's a compromise. Just doing what's physically possible, there could be better solutions in theory but I'm not smart enough for that, took years to figure this out. I agree, it is not release worthy because massive corners were cut in order to get where it is. But for a fan project, I doubt we'll ever get anything remotely better. There's always the original to fall back to :) |

I took some time to watch your restoration on a large screen through a video projector. Beautiful, amazing, , it's excellent. Best version of the live aid ever! Thank you so much! I'm going to spend my Lazy Sunday Afternoon watching this over and over. |

Chief... amazing work.. the best IMHO. The one thing that bothers me is we talk about a million's organisation like Queen Productions and they have the lack of quality management it seems to put a few good visual artist on their payroll to work for them. I see it after all these years as pure lack and amateurism that QP seem to rely on a bunch of 60 and 70 year old people which don't seem to bother and come futher with media possibilties than Microsoft Paint Pro. The quality of some of the DVD covers , artistic quality of products and orginality is so much below standards. Why QP? Why not share knowledge with Chief and take the best of two worlds? |

You’re absolutely correct here, I don’t get why QP don’t use CM for their releases (not to mention a few of the audio experts and historians on here). I genuinely never thought I’d see the Live Aid performance without its flaws. Extraordinary work, CM. |

Most artists don't work with that type. I'm sure he wakes up every day realizing how lucky he is. |

You always tend to defend QP for whatever decisions they make. Of course fans can get jobs. But unless they immediately exhibit a commitment to the brand above all else, they don't even walk in the door. Rather than "defending QPL" as you put it, in reality I'm just trying to bring balance to some of the toxic negativity that frequents places like this. We don't need yet another person saying how the NOTW box set was too expensive for what it offered, or that an anthology is long overdue. If you really want my opinion, here it is. QPL haven't put out a flawless product since the Freddie box set. There. Are you happy? Still - over a dozen hours of archival audio and video have been released in the last 15 years, none of which they had to put out. Marvellous things that we would've killed to see and hear 20 years ago. Ask an Eagles fan how many 70s live albums have come out in audio or video. I'll save you the trip to wikipedia - the answer is zero. The reality is - amidst the mammoth box sets of Springsteen and King Crimson and the nothing from The Eagles, Queen are about in the middle. People complained about the 27 disc Pink Floyd box set. If you look hard enough, you'll find someone who'll complain about a cure for cancer because it didn't come in the right colour. Far too many people lose sight of the positives. Constructive criticism is healthy, but the constant torrent of whining on this website is what makes it one of the armpits of the internet. So shoot me for trying to point out the positives wherever they may be. |
