I read this yesterday and it's a good interview. The last paragraph says everything really, especially " We realize now that this is what we do and we enjoy doing it while we still can. I don’t know how much longer but right now we really enjoy playing and I look forward to our next tour, whenever it may be." As he says, this is their life. So for all those that want them to stop, why should they? |

Great interview. Candid and concise, as always. "I am very happy that so many people like the movie. I think it touched people. This is all we really wanted, Brian and I, we just wanted the movie to tell a story, mainly a true story, not every detail and the time is slightly played with, but we wanted people to be touched and maybe to be uplifted a little." Perfectly said. Combined with Brian saying: "the film is about trying to find an inner truth in a sequence of events, whereas a documentary is just stringing the events together and bits of film from the time." ...this should have all remotely sane people understanding the difference between the two mediums. But alas, such is life. |

I don't think he has opened up this much since the Mojo interview 20 years ago. And he has never told that story about It's A Hard Life before - it's beautiful. Life advice from Brian May. Take it and use it. I enjoyed both interviews thoroughly. Their personalities are just different. Roger is more to the point, while Brian is a bit more pensive and less impulsive. But what they have in common is they're both honest and genuine. These two men have completely come to terms with who they are - and they're sober and healthy. Many people in a similar position aren't so lucky. |

I also liked the interview overall (haven't read Brian's yet), but my confusion was more so with the telling a 'mainly true story' with the film and this part: "I think he felt great confusion. He had some very good looking girlfriends because he had a very nice way about him, so yeah, he was very conflicted and I think that's very accurate in the movie." After reading through Thor and Lee's posts, along with comments from some of Freddie's other gay friends (in books, interviews), that line about Freddie feeling conflicted as portrayed in the film seems to be the opposite of how his friends outside of the band saw him, and part of the reason that some critics disliked the movie and accused it of being homophobic. |

queenfan09: He's talking about the early days when no one really knew Freddie was gay and when he did have several girlfriends. Freddie being 'conflicted', if you will, during this time could very well be very accurate. Old story told million times. It took a while before those girlfriends were switched for men for good, Freddie was out and proud (in private) and obviously gay to everyone around him. Hollywood might not have handled this 'process' that well, messing up the timeline and playing with some parts for emotional effect but that's Hollywood for you. |

The Real Wizard, I guess my response to Brian's interview compared with Roger's was on the basis that Roger's actually made me cry which Brian's didn't - not that I didn't like Brian's interview at all - it was lovely :)... (and I was this morning in a bit of a rush too, so maybe didn't concentrate so much on Brian's words, reading as I was on my phone - trying to complete it quickly before having to speed about my day!) I'm afraid I can't take Freddie/Brian's advice about not being worried about not pleasing people though. Also, I think that advice can work if you're Freddie Mercury (the artist in talent and the man in his nature!) but probably not if you're Wilma from Wales, trying to get by and you have to put on your people-pleasing-face or people will think you an annoying, moudly potato and will do what they would with a mouldy potato - cut the mould out & decide you're not worth it altogether so chuck you in the bin! However, I reckon Brian's right - it likely is the path to success (& legendary status) if you have the drive, will, skill and GRR for it!? queenfan09 I agree that I think Roger meant in the early years - before he broke up with Mary, there must have been conflict within him and in the early days of Queen he did have female groupies too (I'm sure Brian has said this about the days they room-shared on the early tours.) Also, the attention form females may have made it more confusing for Freddie in the very early years, Roger could have meant? Also, could this conflict within Freddie ever entirely go away? In his private life, yes it could and I think once he knew who he was he sure embraced it! How deep and satisfying his loves were, only he can say, but he was certainly not conflicted about who he was or his sexuality. On the other hand, even in 1991 you couldn't be entirely open (verbally) about your sexuality without being judged for it. Even when he was happy with himself and being himself completely, while never hiding his sexuality and certainly wearing it openly, he'd still not be seen openly in public with a lover I don't think? And it isn't something he could ever say to his parents. I found it interesting therefore the moment Roger chose as his favourite moment in the film. I mean, I could be wrong - I don't know all details. I think it is hard in 2018 to truly conceive of how things have changed since 1991, the late 1970's and certainly the '50's and & 60's when Freddie was growing up in terms of not only sexual equality, but general perception and pure and simple understanding and prejudice. How could you be at peace, dying from a disease in the most awful way, knowing too that too much of the world would literally see it as a thing you deserved due to your actions. I cannot imagine how that must feel. Even typing the idea feels so awful. And of course not everyone would have viewed things that way, but too much of the world in terms of individuals and organisations such as the press would have suggested such. |
