Is anybody else watching it on Channel 5 now?
The gut who plays Freddie is brilliant. He really looks like him, and has his voice and mannerisms down to a tee.
I wonder if they tried to get him to play Freddie in Bohemian Rhapsody?
Yep. John Blunt, Aussie guy plays in a Queen tribute band. He's even better than Rami Malek in my opinion. The rest of the cast aren't very convincing though, some really bad wigs.
The gut?

It WAS one of those REELZ type exposes
tabloidish but i think at least it was dramatically better even though it only focused on a brief chapter in his life and that that's true is tremendously sad.
Btw: Whitshaw was the only redeeming actor in the new Mary Poppins (saw it for free) but he would've just been too white n proper for a Freddie
I don't like this performance or film. To me it is a cringey, false expose, poorly acted as I see it... and where they have Freddie breaking down in the Doctor's/backstage and so on. Please just don't. I don't think the guy who plays Freddie is remotely like him & it just didn't feel true in any way. I really disliked it and felt Kida sullied for having watched it.
As for Ben Whishaw, I agree that I can't imagine that he'd have been better than Rami Malek as Freddie and I think it would have received a lot of criticism for his whiteness and maybe he would have been unsuited to the role, however he is a serious actor who has played all manner of roles for 20 years including a breakthrough role which was not particularly prim and proper: a ruffian who murders ladies and decants their scent to then sell as the most wondrous perfume in the world & Hamlet on stage when he was 23. Thus he can certainly play other than the sensitive wee posh, fragile waif he is most well known for. As for how he'd have looked as Freddie, I guess his role in A Very English Scandal gives a clue to it. I've not seen Mary Poppins, but I don't think you can judge how he might have been from it. I like his work best when he plays evil people though, mmm. Not that that has anything to do with Freddie... well, I mean, I am sure there is the odd person out there who might argue the alternative, haha!! ;p
But yeah, I can't envision him doing better than Rami myself, and I say that as someone who loves Ben's work (he played a truly magnificent Richard II in BBC's The Hollow Crown a few years ago if anyone is curious.)
I think I saw an interview with Ben somewhere that said he struggled to find a way into being Freddie too though. As I say, I love his work and even I think Rami worked better than I could imagine Ben doing.

There are many factual inaccuracies in this documentary. Those who knew Freddie personally have said this film is rubbish.
The director of this documentary is clearly not aware that Freddie, as a minimum, shaved his moustache three times.I understand that the error is not so significant, but still an error.

This discussion is disgusting. Mary Austin would not approve of it. Neither would Jim Beach, Dave Clark, Brian May, Roger Taylor nor QUEEN3.
But, of course, Delilah2 is involved. Thus, it has to be tasteless.
I've seen this under about 3 different titles now, of course they'd change it to "A Bohemian Rhapsody" with the film having been released
Question: I've seen two different versions, one that uses clips of actual interviews/Queen performances, another one that has every piece of genuine Queen footage cut out and replaced with stock music/still photos. Why are there two and why does one have all the official material removed from it?
