so i love watching band docs unauthorized or officially released and i'm always lookin for more. i own Great Pretender ANATO's Classic Albums dvd i've seen Killer Queen Mercury Rising and on yt ive found and havent yet seen Days Of Our Lives Who Wants To Live Forever is one of these considered the "definitive" doc? is there any i should see that i haven't listed? thanks!! |
Makka 18.01.2019 05:35 |
Out of all those I'd guess Days Of Our Lives would be the definitive one. Others may disagree. Some of the ones I've seen have just been pure shite! |
Freddie rey 18.01.2019 11:29 |
I will say the same....I think that the one is 'days of our lives', if you include all the extras on the bluray, the doc is amazing |

The 3 hours of The Magic Years. From a simpler time of optimism and excitement. |
Harry_queenrecordings 18.01.2019 13:45 |
My favourite Queen doc will always be ''Champions Of The World''. All the way up to 1995, and without all the Queen + collaborations (minus the Tribute gig of course). |

Days of Our Lives bluray. |
QueenAllTheWay 18.01.2019 17:22 |
Days of Our Lives in terms of content. However, it's my least favourite since most of the archive footage is cropped to 16:9. |
Iron Butterfly 18.01.2019 18:01 |
Days Of Our Lives. It actually is to me one of the best documentaries out there. |
mr mason 18.01.2019 18:07 |
'DOOL',or 'American Dream' definately! |
dave76 18.01.2019 19:26 |
1. Days Of Our Lives, 2. The Magic Years, 3. Champions Of The World (although some years with their interview are incorrect). |

Peter Freestone has recommended 'The Great Pretender' as the documentary to watch. |

The Magic Years is nice too, but it's pretty dated now. If you have to pick just one - it's Days Of Our Lives, without question. |

I do enjoy The Magic Years too - such a different and refreshing feel, since they were all still alive. And the wonderful documentary about the making of A Night at the Opera. I'd like one of those for every album please (is there one for any other?) Is there a documentary from the 70's with the News of the World boxset? If so, how is it may I ask anyone who has seen it?! I enjoyed The Great Pretender and Days of Our Lives. I feel like the truly definitive documentary perhaps has not yet been put together though. I've watched some fabulous documentaries and for me, THAT is the epic film about Freddie that'll be (I hope!) made one day. There is so much real life footage, you could make a truly poetic documentary... but for me the secret to a truly poignant documentary is to have it not just be interviews and real life footage, instead to have it express something poetic. And if you can't do that with all the fabulous footage that exists of Queen, coupled with Queen's and Freddie's story, what kind of a documentary filmmaker are you? Here's hoping it happens one day - and I mean a documentary of the quality to get a cinematic release. I pledge my challenge to documentary makers here! |

I hope there’ll be a new documentary soon, that is focused just on Queen with Adam. No need for another Freddie documentary. |

to spiralastic, no that's the only Classic Albums on a Queen album but if you have Amazon Prime Video and Netflix theres TONS and TONS of band docs and album specific docs for any other band classic or new. and wow the support for DOOL is still pouring in. im gonna have to get on that one soon! |

The Magic Years 1, 2, and 3 is probably the best doc. |

It must the documentary that doesn't feature the annoying Mick Rock with his pretentious sunglasses. |

How are the two "Days Of Our Lives" documentaries distinguished from one another in terms of their respective titles? Remember aside from the Blu-Ray version there is also the 1991 version hosted by Axl Rose. |
THRILLHO 04.02.2019 04:30 |
ya ill need to skip anything that involves Axl Rose |

I re-watched both The Magic Years and the Days Of Our Lives (yep all 5 hours) and my findings are thus: As said previously TMY is a lot more fun and seems to include the more interesting footage. It stops at 1986, so it all feels more innocent and rounded. There isn't a sad ending. It is a time capsule and I think that is it's strength. It's fair to say even though the footage is all familiar now, at the time most of it was new. Most posthumous documentaries stem from here. Time for a DVD release I think - Rare Live would make a great bonus. DOOL was almost entirely new which for a Queen doc at the time was a breath of fresh air. It uses lots of alternate clips - low quality lost TOTP and video rushes which although very interesting and exciting at the time, I'm not sure they deserve re-watching. A shame they didn't cut in all the extra bonus scenes from the Bluray rather than having them as a dozen or so 90 second things on a separate menu. Having the interview cast 20 years older make it seem sadder somehow. And of course it tackles the decline and death in an unflinching way. I didn't really want to see it told like that. The Magic Years wins hands down for me if I was to pick one, but of course both are available and I think there is room for both in your collection. |

I can't bear ones with that idiot who claims 'killer queen ' was about him . Forgotten his name but he really annoys me . Also I'm a little fed up of hearing Paul gambaccini as he has nothing new to say on each different documentary. It's like they wheel these people out who say the same old same old . |
dysan 20.04.2019 09:21 |
Yeah Gambo ruined DOOL |
