Later a full recording of this appeared on YouTube in its native 4:3 ratio, however the beginning is badly damaged although this could have been purposefully degraded as it fixes just before where the DOOL version comes on. This video is comprised of 2 different sources, 'From Rags To Rhapsody' 2015 documentary, and a phone camera recording of a TV screen at the 2011 Stormtroopers In Stilettos London exhibition. The SIS recording of the TOTP footage didn't have useable audio due to the hall blaring other Queen music, so I tried to match up correct audio using the BBC Sessions version. I've provided two different sources, one from the ANATO 30th 2005 DVD and one from a re-broadcast of a TOTP episode (December 23rd, 1975 to be specific). The beginning and ending of the song are edited to flow seamlessly from each song. Unfortunately, the Greatest Video Hits version has been cropped to 16:9, so some frame is lost but it's currently the only source with the full video. Also, the original video appears to be shot way underexposed, so this creates a noisy and dull looking image. I've tried to fix the exposure and also the colours, as the band's faces looked completely grey. It may not be perfect, but I think it's a bit better. *Original Comment Replaced* Live Killers (Mixing & Overdubbing – 1979/??/?? -Includes Main Track This video features some very short clips of the mixing and recording overdubs for the Live Killers album. For a while, it was originally thought that it may be from the early Game album sessions. But several people from within the band have mentioned that this is from the ‘Jazz’ era. The icing on the cake so to speak, is from Peter Hince (aka ‘Ratty’ or one of Queen’s roadies), included a photo within his book ‘Queen Unseen’ of Freddie sitting in a studio with the caption “Freddie during the mixing of the ‘Live Killers’ album in 1979”. A link to the article can be seen here. It’s also unknown when this footage was taken exactly, but do know that the mixing and overdubbing took place after the Japan ’79 shows and obviously before the album’s release on June 22nd, 1979 (in the UK). So sometime between May 7th and early June is a good estimate I guess lol. Unfortunately, there is so accompanying audio for any of the footage here, so I have just dubbed some audio from the LK album. This would be the first time the public would see Freddie’s new facial hair. Many people hated the moustache and began to send razors to the Queen offices demanding it be shaved off, Freddie even referenced it on tour about him keeping his moustache “It's my moustache, and I'm gonna keep it.”. This video would feature a Chroma Key background which changes throughout the video, and during the video Freddie grabs the guitar from Brian and then throws it back to him. For obvious reasons, the Red Special wasn’t used for this shoot, so Brian opted to use a cheap Fender guitar for the stunt. In the original video, there was a section at 1:49 where the shot was reversed during the editing of the video, to preserve continuity with the next shot. I have decided to fix this as the original reverse shot made Freddie look a bit off. As the original Flix copy is cut at the beginning and end, I have used the Greatest Video Hits 1 DVD to fill in the beginning, and the Greatest Karaoke Hits DVD to fill in the clip at the end. This version of the video is cut slightly (likely to do with time constraints, as the program without the adverts is approx. 50 mins). But what we have is mostly different takes of the music video, some of which made it into the official version we all know, but a lot is different. However, the continuity of the video is a lot worse than with the official, as this was likely edited quickly with all the different takes to make a video. I don't see anywhere the original USA Greatest Hits video for Seven Seas of Rhye Killer Queen - I see you posted the TOTP versions, but not the Greatest Flix version, not sure if that was intentional or you forgot. The same goes for Now I'm Here - the Greatest Hits USA VHS had a slightly differently edited version from Rainbow synced to the studio version, the Queen Rocks Videos version was slightly different if I remember correctly. Then there is the Greatest Video Hits 1 version, but that's pretending to be a live version if I remember correctly. Stone Cold Crazy - Queen Rocks Videos version is missing too, it's very similar to the Classic Queen version. |

The reason this is taking longer is because: 1. The videos on YouTube I am not satisfied with, so I’m remastering the original footage again and adding multiple audio tracks. 2. In very busy with University deadlines, which will finish late December so expect more videos over the holidays. 3. I do have a life outside QueenZone. Funny, thanks to your videos I always notice something I never noticed before, even though I've seen that video many times. For example in Flash, I never realized that Freddie's singing is out of sync, or that the film footage in the top is composited in - I always thought that it was a real screen and they projected bits of the movie on it, just like they do when they're scoring a movie with an orchestra :) Interesting. I have a question for Chinwonder and Chief Mouse. I want to capture my vast collection of promo VHSs. I will do this in an uncompressed V210 10-bit YUV AVI file. Of course, I will maintain the frame size and rate of the original format, and keep everything interlaced with the proper field order. I really cannot leave this as uncompressed because of the file size (+100 GB/hr). On the other hand, I want to share this stuff with people to use it for their open restoration/remastering projects, so I wouldn't want to lose too much information. Which video codec do you recommend me to encode this stuff for those purposes? |
