Congrats to them on that. I didn't like the movie, but my positive take on it is that Queen's music (the real star of the film) is so loved, it's responsible for those wins ?? |

There's one thing that bothered me about the awards and that's that John Deacon was never mentioned in either of the acceptance speeches.I thought for sure he'd get a mention in the Best Drama speech ,but nothing.. |
leia 07.01.2019 08:58 |
Heck I have mixed views on the film that have been expressed by many in here. However, with the love of rehashing successful material do you think the sequel will be called "Radio Gaga" and tell the same story from Roger's point of view?? Surprised it won, but fair play to everyone involved with it, next stop the Oscars I guess. |

I found the film entertaining but not exactly award-worthy. Congarts to Malek, though, who did a fine job. |

JomaDuckSoup 07.01.2019 10:27 |
I had mixed feelings about the film. My friends asked me - knowing I'm a big big fan - what I thought. I said, that would I have been responsible, the film would have had a length of 138 hours and would have been more than accurate. Now, It is true, anything making Queen great is good. We would not get any snippet of anything rare if the Queen machine would stop rolling. Some of my reserved friends cried when seeing the film. Freddie said, make me anything but boring. So i guess the movie has his aproval ;) |

What an exciting and thrilling night! I’m glad I got to watch the GG show with my mother, who used to stand in line (while I was in class) to buy Queen tickets for me and my friends. And she attended several Queen concerts with me in the 1970’s and several now with Paul & Adam. When Rami won I was so happy! He deserved it and it was expected that he had a good chance. But when Bohemian Rhapsody won Best Picture - Drama .... I said (with a lump in my throat), “Oh my God! I can’t believe it!” And my mother calmly said, “Well, you would have been very disappointed if it had not won.” And she was right. I love the pictures on Brian’s Twitter! |
matt z 07.01.2019 15:33 |
Ditto what ppl said here. Glad it keeps interest in the band beyond super fans. Only wish they'd give us super fans something good from their archives. Don't care if there's feedback. ANYWAYS. .. SBC was nominated for something? Had no idea he did anything. Ben Whitshaw was GREAT in Mary Poppins Returns.(*free screening) .. too bad the film was mostly turd with very un memorable songs. The lead was uncharismatic same with the lamp lighter. Whitshaw was great but it felt like he was in a completely different film. After watching him, it ocurred to me that he wouldn't have made a good Freddie. BTW: It was great to see Brian in the front. Unmistakable hair. I didn't care to watch more than about 5 minutes. |
thetman 07.01.2019 16:12 |
the movie was ok and we all know it was far from perfect but overall kinda fun to watch on the big screen. glad it won. but the opening monologue was in bad taste I thought. I mean talking about exhuming his body for his teeth? |

Saw both Bo Rhap and 'A Star Is Born' in the same week in huge cinema in Montreal, Canada. I liked 'A Star Is Born' a lot more. But I was very happy to see that the North-American audience seemed to love Queen again. It's not exactly opening week for the film but the evening was as good as sold out. Queen is huge again thanks to that movie. Same thing in record stores in Montreal: all dealers I spoke told me they sold more Queen records in the past few weeks then they did the whole year before the movie came out. I didn't like the movie a lot, but I'm happy to see it made Queen really populair again. Good for them and well deserved! |

@The Real Wizard Listen, I appreciate your views to a degree, but I think there is a distinction we have to make between calling someone a troll for simply disagreeing with your views and applauding the ones who did like the film as some sort of winners. You're simply dividing fans, that's all. Speaking of the verdict itself, it came as a huge surprise and I thought Brian's own expression when it was announced speaks for itself, but I still congratulate them. I personally thought their (and his) story deserved much more and I do think we could have had a real mass-appeasing work of art there, because that's what Queen essentially was, but for some reasons we were shortchanged for a movie which only touches on some more sensitive areas, while leaving the others, like the scene in which Queen was born and evolved in, including relationships with the likes of Bowie or Jackson, virtually untouched. That's one of my big regrets about this film. It was a unique story and I don't think the film does it justice, including the creative tension between Freddie the other three of them, almost reducing them to being a "wallpaper". Don't you think? Anyway, amazed by the box office figures and the Globes, quite extraordinary indeed. All the best. |

Actually, Sweet Caroline’s link had some really great pictures that I hadn’t seen yet. Thanks, SC! My mother used to make my dresses when I was in high school, and that dress of Lucy’s really looks either vintage or from a vintage pattern and this is why: the sleeves! See all that fabric? I would guess 1978. Also the color of the gold fabric is more of a dark gold than what you would see today. |
Donna13 08.01.2019 15:51 |
But it could also be earlier 70’s. Hmmm. |
*goodco* 08.01.2019 16:37 |
As to the awards, Rami was more than deserving of the nomination. He was damn good. Winning? Meh.....he was held back by what he was asked to do, along with an 'average at best' and historically inaccurate script. My wife loved the movie, warts and all. She's tickled over the 'wins'. As are many who have seen the movie 5-15 times. Me....I was moved by it, but I have no desire to see it again. It's yet another project of above average expectations falling far below what 'could' have been done (GH III, Rocks, WWRY, the reissues, BBC release, etc......) |
Donna13 08.01.2019 16:47 |
I’m changing my guess to 1970-75. However, that might be way off because I’m not a fashion expert, and I’m pretty sure if Lucy decided to go vintage, she would go with whatever was the first of its type at the time. Is this a vintage Zandra Rhodes dress from 1971? OK, without doing any research that is my final guess. Ha! |
Donna13 08.01.2019 16:47 |
I’m wrong. It was not vintage. It was a Celine dress. |
