NEW BOOK AVAILABLE NOW: Queen Touring America
| inu-liger 14.10.2018 19:25 |
link ANNOUNCEMENT - NEW BOOK - QUEEN: TOURING AMERICA "I am very proud to reveal the book I have been working on for the last year - 'Queen: Touring America'. This 264 page, soft-back, A4 size book is now available to purchase directly from myself, and chronicles Queen’s eight tours in North America from 1974, supporting Mott The Hoople, to their final tour with Freddie Mercury in 1982. From 1970 to 1986, Queen spent much of their career on stage, playing live to thousands of fans all across the world. From England to Japan, Brazil to Germany and everywhere else in between, John Deacon, Brian May, Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor, entertained people of all race and ages with their unique brand of rock music. This book concentrates solely on their tours of the USA and Canada during the seventies and eighties, where they played 269 concerts in all, performing in nearly every state along the way. Here is their complete live performance history, listing every concert and known set list, including the band's on-stage repartee, recollections from fans, press reviews, support bands, travel arrangements, TV appearances, radio interviews, on-tour interviews, promotional visits, parties, photo sessions, musical equipment used and interspersed with quotes from band members and employees who were around at the time. For the first time, details of the band's stage costumes have also been gathered, as well as in depth information on their stage production and lighting rigs, and accompanied by many unseen and unpublished photos. In addition to this, there are details of what shows have been bootlegged over the years, not just on audio, but filmed on video from audience members who were lucky enough to be present at a particular concert. The whole concept of this book is to describe how the band were live on stage at the time from a fans viewpoint, with their experiences at their chosen shows, with corresponding photos, tickets, adverts, and a selection of reviews from newspapers. Both the fans and press describe in detail of how the concerts were perceived at the time and not always favourably, especially by the press, and this is how the story is told, through their eyes and ears. Queen's music is as popular now as it has ever been. The band still perform live, are constantly played on the airwaves, still sell albums and be presented with gold and platinum awards, receive accolades from the music industry and fellow performers constantly and they continue to top 'best of' charts around the world. If you saw the band live in the flesh, or you have just seen them on your TV screen, or maybe you’ve recently watched Live Aid, then you know what an exciting and visually compelling band they were. Be it in a small theatre or huge stadium, Queen dominated the live domain and were by far the very best at what they did. Now join the journey as we follow Queen touring America." -Gary Taylor |

See above reply, Darren :) |

A side note, yours truly was involved with the making of this book, providing quality checking assistance on the stage costume sections. |

Amazing! How long the book will be available to purchase? I definitely want to buy it, but preferably in the next few months. |
| inu-liger 14.10.2018 20:21 |
I would imagine as long as supplies last, there isn't a time limit that I'm aware of at all |

Good to hear. Thank you! |

Looks like a fantastic book, but far too expensive, with shipping and all. Maybe it will be released on Amazon or something. |

Michael wrote: Looks like a fantastic book, but far too expensive, with shipping and all. Maybe it will be released on Amazon or something.Don't you think £20 for 300 pages in colour alone is worth £20, nevermind the sheer amount of hard work that's gone into it? It's self published, so no, it won't ever be on Amazon. Buy it or don't, but don't be a skinflint over the price. I've seen far less for the money often enough, and that's for books that ARE available on Amazon.... |

Check out the video on YouTube, which the link has been posted on a different thread here. In the video Gary shows the Book, flips some pages, talks about it, etc, and it looks great! |

I am sure it will be so much better than the shitty book that came with the NOTW boxset last year which was filled with errors. No proofreading at all. Just sent the shit to print must have been Greg's thoughts. Gary had already left the team and i can see why. His book will be so much better and affordable. |
| dudeofqueen 15.10.2018 15:31 |
> His book will be so much better and affordable. Absolutely. When Mojo are charging just shy of £11 for the "Essential" guide to Queen's music, this is infinitely better value for money. Just interested to know why the focus on America in the first instance? Bet Greggy Boy is seething...... |

Greg Brooks isn’t fuming at all. He’s much too smart for that. All he has to do now is copy the information from Gary Taylor’s new book and mash it all together with his groundbreaking Queen Live book and wa la, it’s Magic. All the hard work has now been done for him. Greg May be a lazy twat but he’s a smart manipulative lazy twat. |
| freddies bell end 15.10.2018 19:53 |
We don’t care if Greg Brooks ever comes to Queenzone. He’s a douche and a lazy twat. He’s a sorry representative for Queen. Anyone of us with the same access to the archives could have done a better job. Greg loves the taste of arse. |

I've actually met Greg in person a couple years ago, and your assumptions are way off base. Sounds like you've had a super stressful day, maybe some Chardonnay is in order? |

I don't think he's willing to come back anytime soon, with people assuming he's to blame for the lack of unreleased songs on new albums. If you really want these things to ever come out, you should try to be nice and write Brian a letter / email / tweet / whatever on social media. Roger and other higher-ups are probably unreachable. |

inu-liger, re: >I've actually met Greg in person a couple years ago, and your assumptions are way off base Another convert. I met him too and he was shady and evasive to incredibly politely put questions in conversation. He's a bell end of the HIGHEST order and his absence here is wonderful. |

The many photos in the book are just amazing. As an audience member I tried to take concert photos in the 80s myself and usually you did not see anything on them. These photos are fantastic. Mainly when I see all the new merchandise for that movie on facebook all day long I can enjoy some genuine material from the days when Queen were still an exciting band. Thanks to everyone involved. |

I'm really fascinated by the fact that they performed Mad The Swine on this tour. I also didn't think that they performed White Queen too because I thought that they didn't have a piano on this tour because why would they for just one song? I must be wrong. Does a live recording of Mad The Swine exist Gary? I really hope there's going to be a British version of the book including the Crazy Tour in '79! |

In answer to a few questions on here. Although the band didn't have use of a piano on stage on the U.S Mott tour, they still performed 'White Queen' occasionally, but without any keyboards. As far as I know there are no live recordings of 'Mad The Swine', so we live in hope that someday a live tape will turn up and we can hear this gem, and 'White Queen' too, as they were played on stage at this time. One of the reasons they dropped 'Seven Seas Of Rhye' from the set was because they had no piano. |

But I'm still surprised about White Queen being performed even if it was just a couple of times. It must've not sounded right or worked well on stage in this alternative way which meant it being dropped most nights. I too hope there is a recording out there even if not in great quality. Just out of interest when did Queen start recording their live shows? |
| GT 02.12.2018 06:24 |
It has always been suggested that the band's sound man, John Harris, recorded many of the early shows, but as any tapes haven't been found, this can't be confirmed. It's not such a surprise for the band to perform 'White Queen' without a piano, as the 'Queen II' version didn't have keyboards on either. |
| Chopin1995 02.12.2018 10:40 |

A small question to GT: are the soundboards you've heard comparable in terms of sound quality to the live version of Sleeping on the sidewalk as released on the NOTW box set (a well balanced mono soundboard, very enjoyable in my opinion)? |

"Mahoosive thanks and gratitude to everyone who bought my book, 'Queen Touring America', over the last four months. I am happy to say that all copies have now sold through and destinations (almost) reached, with orders from as far away as Australia, South America, Japan and Ukraine, arriving safely and with little damage caused while in the worldwide postal system. Most books have been sold to America, the subject of this opus, and I am very happy that it fulfiled the intended audience and expectations that I hoped it would capture. Much appreciation to those who helped me on this journey, whether through supplying photos and information, or for the overwhelming support and encouragement that I received both prior and during the release of my book. The reviews have been fantastic, comments overwhelming, and I’m happy that new information has been shared with fellow Queen fans, which has certainly made the experience of producing this publication a pleasure to have worked on. Although this project was made over many years, with hurdles and difficult decisions to be made along the way, I am very proud of the book, glad I pursued a dream and happy in the fact that releasing my own book I achieved one of my ambitions in life. A donation from the profits of the sale of the book will be made to the MPT and Rowcroft Hospice on my return from holiday." |

Christ. It looks like the entire project is irrelevant now. There were so few copies made that it was just a click thing. This happened with some Bowie singles book. To me this also falls on the Estates/management for these artists from these camps. Someone has made these up and now they are simply gone. It seems like they could at least create something comparable but these are basically party favors/gifts because so few are made. They were never sold to stores so what's the point. As I said it is a click thing. Nevermind. |
