God bless her. Such sad news. |

Only two ridiculously larger than life characters like Fred and Montserrat could even conceive of an album like Barcelona. And they got away with it because of their remarkable talent and audacity. |
matt z 06.10.2018 11:01 |
Viper and Holly, you're absolutely right.. Hell...I almost posted a "what's going on with Montserrat" thread last week. I listen to that album on a nearly daily basis (sure, I haven't added many new tunes to my phone, but I ALSO won't skip any of those tracks when it comes up.) I'm grateful Freddie introduced this voice and artist to the world of rock and roll |

Very sad. Barcelona is one of my favourite albums in any genre. I adore it enormously. Next week is 30 years since the album was released and I wanted to listen to Barcelona to celebrate this fact. |

The title track has a special meaning for my wife and I, and the title track was the first song we played in the limo after our wedding 16 years ago. |

Here’s a couple of more detailed obituaries. link link Some interesting parallels with Freddie. She also started singing by ear as a child and started piano. I love the album Barcelona too. |

Rest in Peace Monserrat Caballe.........you were more than a gifted opera singer, you showed you were approachable and gracious and with a great sense of humour. I saw on a you tube video how you supported Freddie's parents during the unveiling of his statue in Switzerland. Respect. |

The fact I quoted and wholeheartedly agreed with Holly shows my true feelings, but I didn't want it to be a completely sad thread. I had paid my respects elsewhere. It was a joke, given that Paul Rodgers was supposed to be "Freddie's favourite singer" (although we all know that Montserrat was up there!). It was maybe not to your taste, but certainly not intended to offend. I shouldn't have to explain myself to you, and I refer you to my first response. I don't care what YOU think. |

Oh shoot. Wasn't even MY typo. Here i was apologizing for SWYPE/auto correct. Whoa. I must be tired. Well. She was laid to rest on Monday. Apparently many opera houses stopped for a minute or two in reverent silence....while a modern op-ed was made criticizing the MET for not honoring her as well. Then the met manager issued a tribute statement....supposedly they hadn't received the news at the time. Royalty of both false (murder death kill type) and real (artist type) paid their respects in visitation that day. I'd read something pretty funny that said she used to smoke something like 3 packs of cigarettes a day in her heyday and that upon her mostly retirement she used to go around the property in her pickup truck and jeans. She must have been an interesting gal. |
