Just a slightly mad idea: collectively, we could make a Queen cover. To do something fun before the movie hits, what if we make something ourselves that can only be done by a group of people? There are members here who can sing, play guitar, bass, drums, etc., and those of us who can't, we might as well provide backing vocals, as awful as they may be, but mixed together it can't sound too bad. I'm sure someone can do some sound engineering magic as well. Everyone should be able to record with their phones in acceptable quality, so we just need the performances. Of course, the more people involved, the more we can do. We would have to choose a song, then the best performers... if anyone is actually down for it, LOL. So... anybody? |
dysan 02.10.2018 18:18 |
Easy. We pick a song - pick a BPM - agree on the key - everyone does whatever they do and we can have fun putting it all together. |

Could be pretty nice, could fail miserably. I'm game. |

Great plan! I'm up for it. I've sung Dear Friends on the Stage Of Champions before. |

I'd love to participate but sadly have no adequate recording gear. (*not a bum. I have a job, just miserably aware living with family that's potentially aging to the point of requiring care soon.... the psychological stuff, oh boy) I do have friends who have studios. What song would be nominated? Something better than Body Language I'd hope. And who will mix the raw data tracks? CMatt? |
stevelondon20 03.10.2018 06:16 |
I'd be happy to provide Vocals wherever needed. Mixing I will have to leave to someone else, but I am open to the majority of the Queen Catalogue in terms of a chosen Track. |
inu-liger 03.10.2018 06:33 |
I've got drums and decent multitrack recording gear |
dysan 03.10.2018 08:13 |
Can I nominate Flash or Attack Of The Hawkmen - because then we can have talking bits that people could do who might not be too confident playing an instrument. |
Mára 03.10.2018 13:30 |
How about something not so known or so complicated? Something like Hangman, Dog with the bone, or The Earth from The Smile days? If you are looking for the keyboard player, I am in. |
Golden Salmon 03.10.2018 14:28 |
Wow, so many eager artists! Perhaps we can make some sort of poll as to which track to choose. Should we do a hit, a deep cut, a rarity, a solo track? |
thomasquinn 32989 03.10.2018 14:54 |
If we want this to be open to as many people as possible, as the TS suggested, each contributing with their own instruments/voices in their own way, I would have the following suggestion: Choose a song that doesn't rely heavily on its arrangement, or on a delicate interplay of melodic lines. If you take a song like Love Of My Life, or My Fairy King, or Innuendo, (or, god forbid, You Take My Breath Away) you'd really need to do a note-by-note reproduction for it to sound good - that's awesome if you've got a talented band working in synch, but not so great if it's more of an ad-hoc thing and you don't know in advance what parts you're going to get. If, on the other hand, you take something a little simpler, less delicate, even rough around the edges, like I Want It All, or even Long Away, or Crazy Little Thing Called Love, I think it'd be easier to fit in different people with different instruments, playing at different levels. I'm open to pretty much anything, from the greatest hit to the deepest, most obscure cut, but please, don't just choose a song that sounds great when Queen does it, but a song that'll sound good when a very random band of people does it. Oh, and maybe we should consider, when it's recorded, to make the different parts available and let everyone who wants to have a go at putting the whole thing together. |
Golden Salmon 03.10.2018 15:31 |
^Yup, that's the correct mindset. Some songs will be off-limits in terms of craftsmanship, mixing and/or talent, so I agree that it needs to be a "simple" song, which narrows the catalog down. Those of you who actually know music should suggest the best candidates. I suppose someone (the lead singer?) can make a guide for backing vocals, so that us who can't sing can provide something as close to the original as possible. Perhaps we can use the original multitrack stems if the chosen track is available. |

Should be fun to make a Queenzone cover, I can play a piano but: 1. I've moved to a new city and left my pianos for a moment. (both electric and acoustic) 2. Mara is already willing to cooparate. So I'll have to wait for my chance. |

I'm not sure I can give you a Galileo (I fear autotune would be needed), but I make a very convincing handclap or finger snap... That can work with a lot of songs. |

I want to participate in this! First thing we need to do is deciding a song. I am open for most things, but my suggestions are as following: 1. Seven Seas of Rhye. Great song that I feel could need some 2018 treatment. The chords shouldnt be hard. And we have capable guitarists in here. The backing vocals may be tricky. But who says we have to do it the same way? :) 2. In The Lap of the Gods revisited (Playable, and all the QZ members can join in on the choruses) |
Chief Mouse 03.10.2018 20:33 |
I do a little bit of hobby singing, although I don't think I'm good enough for most Queen material. Also, I'm having a hard time figuring out harmonies. That being said, here's Space Oddity - link And Spread Your Wings - link . |

Another Roger (re) 04.10.2018 03:06 |
How is the easiest way to do this? In my opinion the easiest way would be if someone made an accurate drumtrack that we use to build from. Upload tracks to some kind of cloud that those who mixes has access to? Then it will be exciting to see which contributions that makes the final mix. I'll have no hard feelings if my stuff wont get used. I want to have a go at: - Vocals - Piano - Rythm guitar. If nothings is used: Fine, at least I got some good practice :) |

I don't think I've seen anyone offer to play bass, so I'd be happy to provide "dazzling tie and bass guitar". And maybe a few touches of guitar here and there. I'm not sure SSOR would be a particularly easy choice, but if that's the consensus I'll go along with it. From the songs I've seen mentioned here, I personally think In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited would be a good song to go with. |

Right. What's the best way to get this in motion then? I can't play any Instruments, so I will only be able to put my shout in for Lead or Backing Vocals. SSOR is a great choice. Happy to sing on anything though. |
Golden Salmon 04.10.2018 17:12 |
SSOR is a good first option: oldie but goodie, 70's track, not too popular, will probably be in the movie in some capacity... We have the multitrack files too, which is helpful. I would like to see more suggestions, particularly from people who can play any given song. |

I cant wait until we get started on this collaboration. How will we do this practically? I assume that we will just upload the tracks we are doing as a *.wav file and those who mixes picks and chooses from all the different tracks coming in. And we cant expect that all will be used of course. I hope we go for the best possible end result. I will not be disappointed if none of my stuff will be used. I know the level of talent on this board, and there will be some quality tracks surley! Lets not wait for too long to start this thing. Too often projects like this just fades out. We must not let that happen this time! :) |
dysan 05.10.2018 07:07 |
Agreeing the key and tempo (and which edit!) is critical once the song is chosen to avoid too many headaches. I'm happy to mix it all together - but would be cool if a few of us had a go and maybe we do an end of year vote for the best? Once we're done with song /key / tempo, I say start a new thread called Cover Stems or something soley for people to stick their bits in and keep the comments for here? Keep it tidy. |
thomasquinn 32989 05.10.2018 18:18 |
Ok, sounds like we're going to give Seven Seas Of Rhye a shot. I would propose the following approach: - I believe there's a multi available; let's use the original tempo and key if at all possible. - We use the multi to make a couple of simple, bare-bones mix-downs, something like this: * drums & bass, * piano & bass (mainly for the drummer / drummers) * piano & drums (mainly for the bass player) - The people who are going to play instruments start to record their parts, using any of the above as their backing tracks. When done, upload them. Maybe one of the skilled mixers here can then help us to create a basic instrumental working track. - The people recording vocals, instrumental solos, maybe even creative new additions to the song, can now record their parts using the instrumental working track as backing. - We upload the results, and anyone can have a go at mixing the final thing. I thought I'd just throw this out here - I'm sure the above plan can be improved upon, so I'd be happy to hear your feedback. It looks like this could take a while to do, but I think it's going to be fun! |

I am listening to the instrumental now. And the structure of the song isnt the most complicated when it comes to Queen. The challenge is all the clever bits they put in like the guitar flavours, harmonies and all that. And while I listen to the instrumental I gain new respect for them as a musicians. They has such great taste. I love this even without vocals. Beautiful song! |

Another Roger (re) 09.10.2018 20:44 |
Definitely some Live Magic vibes from Chief Mouses performance. Sounded excellent that. Another thing. Do we want to make changes to the original melody line? Could make it a bit more interesting. I consider to do one take quite close to the original, and one with some alternative melody line. |

I guess what happens in the mix is up for the mixers. I kind of like the idea of blending several together for parts and having different solo lines etc. Like Band Aid :) |

I was thinking of changing one little/big thing: what if we give the song a real ending? We don't get to hear the whole "I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside" chorus as the song fades out early, but we could recreate the way it probably went originally. Perhaps add some drums and guitar to make it end like live tracks do. At the very least we could try it both ways, and see the best result in the mix. |
dysan 10.10.2018 07:10 |
The sing along end would be nice for those of us who can't sing :) Or we could go full Live Magic and have it end with the A Kind Of Magic :D |

Dane 16.10.2018 20:52 |
I did some googeling and found Hightail to work well with group collaborations. We'll all have an online folder where we can upload and download files. A free account gives you 2Gb online storage. Which should be enough for a multitrack song in uncompressed WAV. link (not a sponsor) |
Silken 17.10.2018 15:22 |
Wow!! I want to participate!! I can sing, but SSOR is one of my least favorite songs. I'll see what I can do with the backing vocals. |
Dane 18.10.2018 15:08 |
I've recorded some main and backing vocals. All mixed down into one demo file. link Maybe we need some kind of 'producer' to figure out what parts the song actually needs so we can provide files for those separate parts. Especially for backing vocal harmonies and guitar parts. |
dysan 18.10.2018 15:14 |
If everyone is mindful to have the start of the piano included in their stem so it's easier to line up with the others when imported. |
Dane 18.10.2018 15:23 |
@dysan: As final delivery of the stems I will make WAV files with the same length using the multitrack provided in this thread as a lead. This way you can line them up perfectly. |

thomasquinn 32989 25.10.2018 17:03 |
Hey everyone, Apologies for the delay! I've finally managed to record a bass guitar track. It's not an exact duplicate of the original, but I can't stress enough that I'm definitely not John Deacon - I never realized what an amazing job he does on Seven Seas Of Rhye! Anyway, I think this counts as a fairly decent attempt at a bass track for our cover of SSOR, minus one fill that I haven't been able to reproduce well enough as yet. I recorded this synched to Mara's piano tracks and a mixdown of Roger's drums. Therefore, it runs exactly synchronous to Mara's recordings, but there are an additional 2.51 seconds of silence at the start compared to the PiotreQ multitrack. I have included two versions, each as both 44.1khz/16 bit and 48khz/16 bit mono wav files. The first is the raw recording, the second has been slightly compressed and EQ'ed. Here they are: ****EDITED LINK**** https://transfernow.net/127uy1a2quie I hope this'll do. I might manage to improve on it a little, in which case I'll put it in this topic. |
dysan 25.10.2018 17:09 |

dysan 27.10.2018 12:47 |
They'll need to be alone I'm afraid! Send them privately if you'll a bit embarrassed - I won't judge. Even better if you have your lead vocal on a separate mono stem, and the backing vocal on a stereo one. Will stick something up once we have a bit more than just bass and piano! |
Chopin1995 27.10.2018 21:47 |
OK, so this is what I was able to do with the piano part today. I didn't want to imitate Freddie note by note because I don't see any sense in doing so. Also, I didn't want to be influenced by Mara's recording, so I heard it only once, last Saturday. If it's necessary, both versions (Mara's and mine) can be used, I guess. While recording it, I was playing to the original multitracks, to keep the right tempo (more or less) but obviously, it can be edited in any way. link |

Instrumentally I can have a go at acoustic guitar and maybe a tambourine or something. I can sing, but I’ll not be much use at this song in this key - my full voice doesn’t go all that high. How are backing vocals being handled? I can’t see anyone else having posted any so far, but don’t want to step on toes if some are planning on doing them. I figure it’s impractical to try and break down the vocal arrangement, distribute parts, and then somehow try and make them blend sonically. It’s probably better (and more interesting) if we go section by section, that way different sections will showcase different interpretations. Thoughts on this? I’ll have a go at some backing vocals tomorrow in any case. |

Especially for backing vocal harmonies and guitar parts.I don't think he ended up sharing the files though. |
dysan 01.11.2018 18:54 |
Just chuck it all in the pot. It'll be fiiiiiiiine. |
Dane 01.11.2018 21:55 |
Lots happening here! Great! Had some time today to create the stems. Here are some links (both to the same Zip file) link link Mixers enjoy mixing! |
tomchristie22 01.11.2018 22:49 |
Here's my stuff, incl: - Tambourine - Acoustic guitar - Backing vocals (mono and stereo mixdowns, can upload individual parts if necessary) link Vocals seem to be pretty well covered so I'm happy for those to be taken or left. Note that I've done these in standard tuning, whereas I noticed the recorded version is about 20 cents below, so these might need to be transposed down slightly. |
Dane 02.11.2018 14:27 |
Can someone reshare the Bass track? The file is no longer available |

Dane wrote: Can someone reshare the Bass track? The file is no longer availableI don't have it handy right now, but I'll put it back up again later. |

Have been playing around with mixing the tracks and they sound pretty awesome. Only Guitars and Drums remaining! |
thomasquinn 32989 04.11.2018 14:44 |
Sorry for the delay! Here's the bass guitar again. https://transfernow.net/1276d6d13m49 This topic was a really nice idea, Golden Salmon. A round of applause to you! |
Chief Mouse 05.11.2018 18:32 |
Great work guys! Please, drummers and guitarists, step up! :) |
Dane 05.11.2018 20:16 |
Here's a quick and dirty mix of what we have up to now. |
thomasquinn 32989 06.11.2018 06:08 |
Thanks Dane! That's starting to sound pretty good! |
Golden Salmon 06.11.2018 09:41 |
That's super cool guys! I can't believe this is actually working out :-D Someone get Bob on guitar already! I'd love to contribute with backing vocals, but maybe closer to completion. I'm no singer! |
dysan 06.11.2018 14:33 |
Yeah this is great |
Apocalipsis_Darko 06.11.2018 16:51 |
woooh, good job guys! |
Dane 07.11.2018 08:42 |
I've been starting to play around with the guitar tracks as well, but boy... I might have opened pandora's box there. I hope the other guitarists on QZ will join in soon :) |
Mára 07.11.2018 18:11 |
How about for the time being to import drums and guitar from the origininal multitrack? To shorten the waiting period..?? |
Dane 07.11.2018 20:15 |
Here is a mix with Rogers drums and my take on the guitar parts. I'm quite a slow-hand so I did have to get creative in places. Hopefully someone can do the parts without doing it note for note or slowed down ;) And I failed miserably at the main solo so that's not on here. |
Mára 08.11.2018 06:47 |
This sounds great, thanks for mixing this version @Dane |
thomasquinn 32989 08.11.2018 06:50 |
Awesome! Obviously, I can't speak for anyone else, but when this is done, I would definitely be up for doing another song! |
Mára 08.11.2018 08:22 |
Just out of curiosity, what nationality are the contributors ???I (one of the piano players) belong to Czech tribe?? |
Mára 08.11.2018 08:24 |
Sorry for too many question marks, looks like Emojis are not supported.. |
Chief Mouse 08.11.2018 08:37 |
Latvia. Where are you from? |
Dane 08.11.2018 10:51 |
Holland here |
thomasquinn 32989 08.11.2018 11:00 |
I'm Dutch too. |
Mára 08.11.2018 13:06 |
Czech :-) |
Mára 08.11.2018 15:12 |
Regarding the next cover, how about to try something pre-Queen, that brings Smile when playing? link link link Or something rare such as Hangman, or Dog With The Bone? |
Chopin1995 08.11.2018 15:21 |
Poland here :) Definitely more than one song! But I'd wait until SSOR is 100% finished. In other case we will have 10,15 or more unfinished songs. I have even more ambitious idea. What about writing a new song? A song written by Queenzone members. |
Golden Salmon 08.11.2018 23:55 |
^Property of Queenzone Productions! |

Ifyou guys need some farts sonds, I’m your man! Just let me know in the afternoon so I can have a can of black beans for dinner and do the recording later in the evening I’m gonna take a shit now |
Lamebert whoehahaha 12.11.2018 12:54 |
Would you believe it? I just rose from the toilet, looked back and saw I defecated the Queen logo with the lions, etc. Damn, that’s what you call art! |
thomasquinn 32989 12.11.2018 18:03 |
So, what parts do we still need? From the top of my head, that's - Drums - Guitar solo Did I miss anything? And we need to do something with the ending. Are we going to add the I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside outtro? If so, I think we probably need someone to record a guide-vocal for everyone else to go by. |
Lamebert whoehahaha 12.11.2018 23:11 |
I prefer ending with a big fart. I can also burb the Brighton fair intro on SHA. Name it, and I fart or burb it for you guys! |

In my news, I've had a change of laptop so might take a bit longer to mix - however that should give us a bit more time to play with. |

If nobody else volunteers I can do lead guitar. I can do a reasonable approximation of Brian's tone, but it won't sound like a Red Special. |

Also, is there a vocalist who is willing to do a guide vocal for the I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside-ending? It's not a difficult spot of singing, but the tempo needs to be just right. With a guide-vocal, anyone and everyone can add their voice to the music hall sing-along. |

The original has plenty of out of tune singing and odd screaming, tone exaggerations and what not. Make yourself loud, shout if you must! It will be just fine as long as we have more than 3 people doing this. The more people we have, the less likely anybody will discern your particular voice and the better it will sound in general. Oh, and you don't have to post it here. Just send it to Dysan via PM. Post here if you did so, or remain anonymous if you wish. |
thomasquinn 32989 19.11.2018 14:42 |
Thanks, Chief Mouse! I don't have a microphone here, but I'll give this a shot either tonight or tomorrow! There had better be considerably more than three people doing this if my voice is going to be in there ;-P |
ludwigs 19.11.2018 17:26 |
This seems a great idea and I’ll look forward to hearing the results. I did a complete cover with the outro wailing crowd over 15 or so years ago. I’ve not been on here for ages so it’s nice to return and read an interesting discussion/thread. I’m still slowly adding to my covers collection. Lots of nearly done classics. Look forward to hearing and seeing the collaboration |
QSMJohn 19.11.2018 19:08 |
I'm trying to make a drum take in the following weeks (when I have the time ;)) and I will record it. Sadly, I have bad recording equipment for my drums, but I'll give it a try. |
Lamebert whoehahaha 19.11.2018 22:16 |
Guys, I’m sure your efforts will sound great, but I give you one advice: The song just needs MORE COWBELL!! |

Any news on guitar and drums? |
BETA215 10.12.2018 23:05 |
Oh, I came later to the party hahaha. In the next song, I could do acoustic guitar, piano or (a basic) bass, in case nobody's there. This is turning great! :D |
Chief Mouse 11.12.2018 16:57 |
Do we even have one outro submission? |
CPL593h 14.12.2018 19:37 |
Chief Mouse wrote: Do we even have one outro submission?Chief, if I may: I guess the outro will be "sung" by people who can't really sing (but it should work given enough submissions). The problem with people who can't sing is that they often don't have the right equipment to record their voice professionally. For instance, I used to own a mike, but I lost it around the time I realised singing was not the thing I do best *cough*. Therefore, for the singalong, wouldn't it be acceptable to allow posters to use their phone to do the recording? You'd suggest the right app and the right settings and maybe you'd get a few submissions? |
Chief Mouse 14.12.2018 22:02 |
I think phones will do just fine, why not? :) It's mainly about enthusiasm and participation. P.S. I am not aware of any specific apps, I'm sorry. Whatever works best for you guys. |
spiralstatic 16.12.2018 09:51 |
Love this folks! If you ever want a violin on a future thing, here I am. Very Queen, I know, hahahaha! Oh well. I also play piano, but not well and my piano is nearly a semitone flat (but quote quite, so you can't even transpose stuff a semitone), so you definitely don't need me there! |
Dane 08.01.2019 12:58 |
So what's the status of the Guitar and Drum parts? And also, how's the ending coming along? Can we make the BluRay release of BoRhap? ;) |
Mára 29.03.2019 15:29 |
Hello guys, How about to start some new track? Here is my candidate: Brian May - Sleepy Blues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkBKQ4vvkx0 |
stevelondon20 01.07.2019 22:04 |
Anyone fancy having a go at another song?? I'd happily provide Vocals. Be good to do something different. Maybe YDFM? Or a minimal suggestion - TTWWC? |
stevelondon20 01.07.2019 22:05 |
ITTWWC even lol. |
Golden Salmon 02.07.2019 16:44 |
Such a shame we didn't complete Seven Seas of Rhye, it was almost there. Hopefully it's not too late for that. Anyway, how about Made In Heaven's track 12? I bet I can ruin it! |
stevelondon20 02.07.2019 17:28 |
Haha!! |
thomasquinn 32989 03.07.2019 10:24 |

Hi Roger, Yes! I got all the tracks you mailed to me. No if I could just find the time to get to work on them :) As soon as I have done something I will post here! Thanks again |
