I have recently bought some good headphones (audio technica) and have been listening to the first pressing vinyls that I have. Some are Elektra (Australia) and some are EMI. I have a few that look like they were never played and sound absolutely amazing - namely ADATR, SHA and NOTW. Anyway, listening to WATC and you can clearly hear the extra piano bit start as it is fading out - the bit that is at the end of the different version released with the 40th anniversary of NOTW. Probably not interesting to most, but after listening to these songs hundreds of times, it's exciting to find something new, no matter how small. |

^That's cool, it's not documented as far as I know. Not a major difference but it's yet another insight. I understand if it's not OK to ask, but is there a chance you could share it that version somehow? |
liam 21.09.2018 09:06 |
Don't know how I'd do it in a way that would pick this up. It is likely on all releases, all good vinyl copies anyway. |

What other tech are u using? Turntable, HiFi etc |
Chinwonder2 21.09.2018 13:27 |
Hmm, I can't hear it on my original UK pressings of the album and single. Although they might be too hissy to hear it? link -Chin |

It's audible on the music video. Just make sure you crank up the volume |
Holly2003 21.09.2018 15:22 |
Good spot. There's a little bit of piano there -- maybe 2 notes -- but I'm not convinced it's the same as the NotW 50th version. It could just be some random notes. |
Ale Solan 21.09.2018 18:16 |
Yeap, I've heard this on the single version. |

I've noticed this before. In fact some fade outs are really interesting. Take a listen to what I've done. These are excerpts of the last tiny bit of some Queen songs that fade out which you can't hear normally. I've turned the sound up to the max: 1. We Are The Champions 2. You And I 3. Now I'm Here 4. Spread Your Wings |

Nathan H 21.09.2018 19:11 |
Oh yeah I forgot Drowse. Do you know what Roger says at the very end? |
NastyQueenie74 21.09.2018 19:24 |
It sounds like he's giving Brian a cue to end the take. It sounds like "Brian May?" |
The Real Wizard 21.09.2018 20:03 |
Well spotted ! But indeed, it likely is a different piano flurry. |
dysan 21.09.2018 20:28 |
I'll point you to CMI's versions where we can hear the longest versions which have different fades. I'm fascinated by this sort of thing so very interested in any discoveries. |
The King Of Rhye 21.09.2018 21:58 |
I can hear that at the end of WATC, on cheap headphones plugged into my cheap laptop. LOL. I'm reminded of Hang On In There, at the end Brian starts playing some lead as it fades out. If my memory serves, there's some version of that somewhere where you can hear a few more notes of it. |
The King Of Rhye 21.09.2018 22:02 |
Or, maybe not.....it's the version on the Miracle that is a few seconds longer than the version on the b-side of IWIA. Guess I got that backwards. |

Nice spotted Liam. I personally haven't had a chance to hear it, but actually just put on GH3 on Spotify (despite owning the original cd) and I was amazed by how great "Driven by You" sounded and in fact couldn't help thinking what Freddie would have done with it. Brian was on such a form during those late years of Queen... Even on "Let Me Live" he still sounds great and his guitar makes the track. Would be so interesting to find out how these recordings were really put together. A 25-anniversary box set perhaps? Sorry for jumping from one thought to another. |

Check out scandal , the fade out has some good guitar , would love if they had included that and made the track somewhat heavier |
Dr Magus 22.09.2018 09:33 |
Ride The Wild Wind as well. Plus the demo has some nice moments from Bri. |

At the end of Drowse Roger says 'now who else do I like' then there is a voice very low down in the mix and muffled then he says 'Brian May' right at the very end. |

Innuendo |
mooghead 22.09.2018 15:36 |
I cant unhear the bunch of 'crackles' that happen between the congas at the start of Days of our Lives. Plus the 'long lost guitar' version of DSMN makes the edit in the guitar solo of the original really obvious.... |

It's like most songs that end in a fade actually come to an ending within running time, only that they choose to hide it for artistic/personal reasons. Also of note, off the top of my head: - Ogre Battle, The March Of The Black Queen and Khashoggi's Ship - no cross-fade standalone versions from Deep Cuts. - Funny How Love Is (single version), Lily Of The Valley (single version) - no cross-fade standalone versions. - God Save The Queen (single version), Scandal (preliminary mix) - no fade in, full volume intro. By the way, some multitracks contain no fade out versions of a number of songs, but I'm not completely sure whether they're all actually like that or bespoke edits. I shared these ones: - Now I'm Here (all music stops) - Keep Yourself Alive (long lost retake edit - ends with a capella chorus) - We Are The Champions (long guitar note ends in full volume) - Play The Game (all music stops) - Crazy Little Thing Called Love (all music stops) - Radio Ga Ga (ends with guitar) - I Want To Break Free (Freddie sings until the very end followed by guitar effect) |
TheAdmiester 22.09.2018 23:53 |
Scandal has the most interesting fade out in my opinion. The guitars change to a tone/riff completely different to what you hear in the rest of the song. Whereas the other ones always seem to be "winding down" but cut off early by the fade out, Scandal doesn't sound like it's ready to end. |
popy 23.09.2018 03:15 |
I Was Born To Love You (Queen version) also has an ending. |
dysan 23.09.2018 06:42 |
I assumed those no fade versions of PTG and CLTCL were artificial? Also the stems of Killer Queen reveal studio chat at the end. |

dysan wrote: I assumed those no fade versions of PTG and CLTCL were artificial? Also the stems of Killer Queen reveal studio chat at the end.Yes, I'm pretty sure all those except for WATC are edits. Still different though. Brighton Rock, Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody and Get Down Make Love all contain extra bits and studio banter not present in any other versions. There's a version for "In The Lap Of The Gods... Revisited" that has a rough ending instead of the thunders. |
Togg 24.09.2018 09:27 |
So.... does that now mean that the video for WATC that they filmed for the Bob Harris doc WAS actually them recording? or as we suspect just done for the doc??? |

The WATC fade can be seen and heard at 3:04 in the following: link |
