What I had hoped for- Man from Manhattan 2018
| Michael Allred 18.09.2018 11:11 |
The swing band like production is fine but almost makes it sound like it should be in an Austin Powers movie. I would love for a full blown Queen treatment with Freddie's vocals brought higher into the mix, keeping Brian's guitar and Roger adding drums and finally adding Brian and Roger adding their voices to the backing vocals. Release it as a single b/w Killer Queen (since I always felt like MfM sounded like a spiritual cousin.) |

Man from Manhattan always had a feel of Killer Queen mixed with the overblown opera vocals of Somebody to love. A very underrated but brilliant track that deserves more praise in my opinion. |

i think it's quite fresh and not bad at all. especially i like the additional vocals which seem to be recorded recently by mr. howell. . what i wasn't aware of is that that very man had an accoustic-performance at some convention in 2012; link |

re: >I would love for a full blown Queen treatment with Freddie's vocals brought higher into the mix, keeping Brian's guitar and Roger adding drums and finally adding Brian and Roger adding their voices to the backing vocals. Which would make it Queen+ and not Eddie Howell. Which was the point from the beginning. |

Additional vocals? |

For me it's a step back... The original version was perfect – or, should I say, it would have been perfect with Freddie on vocals. I was hoping for that new version to feature Freddie on lead vocals, but I guess he just never recorded it. In this version it looks like Freddie is buried in the mix even more than in the original, which is a shame. I love the ADATR feel the original had. I always found it to be a pretty neat ADATR outtake (although I know it isn't technically). The big band sound makes nothing to me. |

@emrabt: i listened to the 2018 extended version on youtube. the intro and some of the middle part has some vocals by mr. howell that i wasn't aware of. so i think they have been recorded recently. please correct me if i'm wrong. |

Always thought that Eddie sounded a lot like Freddie on Man from Manhattan, at some point i thought it was Freddie! |
| emrabt 19.09.2018 12:17 |
From what i can here, there's no new lyrics. |
| princetom 19.09.2018 13:45 |
then i may be wrong. anybody in for knowing if the extended intro was recorded recently or being caught in the 70s ? |

I would like to spend money on some decent Queen and related products, but I'm afraid this sort of thing doesn't cut it for me. A Freddie version would of course be an entirely different kettle of fish. Besides that, it seems a physical copy of this CD cannot be ordered from within the UK? Another marketing fail from the off as far as I'm concerned, cult indeed! |

I don't like this remake... The original one is better! |
| Star* 20.09.2018 06:35 |
Yes original is always the better option and many Queen fans are not fussed about what crap is waved under there noses they are bound to say it is great! |

happystar wrote: Yes original is always the better optionNo, it isn't. Countless pieces of music have been later improved upon by themselves or other artists. Glenn Gould's Goldberg Variations was infinitely better the second time around. But of course you knew that. many Queen fans are not fussed about what crap is waved under there noses they are bound to say it is great!* their, not there. And there should have been punctuation after "noses". Yet another jab at anything Brian and Roger have done after 1997. You are far too predictable. What are you trying to accomplish by repeating the same thing hundreds of times? |

i disagree, and will stick to my original post. Queen were once an original band then Freddie died john left the band and now if you turn around and say they are better now than what they were before then your talking utter drivel. Original lead singers cannot be beaten in any band. |
| The Real Wizard 20.09.2018 16:12 |
happystar wrote: if you turn around and say they are better now than what they were before then your talking utter drivel.Literally not a single person has ever argued this point. Why are you so fixated on it? Original lead singers cannot be beaten in any band.Plenty of people prefer Ronnie James Dio to Ozzy. Plenty of people prefer Brian Johnson to Bon Scott. Phil Collins to Peter Gabriel. Sammy to Dave. And I think you'll find one or two people who prefer Ian Gillan to Rod Evans. Or Bruce Dickinson to Paul Di'Anno. Head, meet desk. |

I wanted to step in earlier about the 'original is always better' argument, It depends when you like, |
| Star* 20.09.2018 19:47 |
i am fixated on the original issue here because a lot of people seem to forget what a brilliant band Queen was with Freddie, its like people seem to accept Camilla Parker Bowels to the lovely Princess Diana and that syndrome has happened to Freddie with Adam Lambert, you get idiots like Brian May who praises Lambert up to the chimney tops yet when Freddie was alive he never ever said in interviews while Freddie sat there that Mercury was an incredible singer and performer. Queen were once an original rock band, but today they are a mish mash of anybody standing on that stage with them fucking up the Queen back catalogue. Sorry but this needed to be told. If you want REAL Queen then it has to be original. |

people seem to accept Camilla Parker Bowels to the lovely Princess Diana WT actual F |

happystar wrote: i am fixated on the original issue here because a lot of people seem to forget what a brilliant band Queen was with FreddieNo, they don't. Nobody has ever said anything of the like. And if they have, it is likely an extremely small minority of Adam Lambert fans who didn't even like Queen before this collaboration began. Can you actually point to a single quote written by a Queen fan who says they like Lambert now and have completely rejected Mercury, or is this just something that exists only in your head? You seem to think that because people even slightly enjoy the collaboration with Lambert, they therefore have turned their backs on the original band. Why can't you fathom that people can enjoy both on some level? when Freddie was alive he never ever said in interviews while Freddie sat there that Mercury was an incredible singer and performer. That's because it wasn't Brian May's job to market Freddie Mercury in 1977. However, you will find countless interviews in the past 25 years where he speaks about Freddie's brilliance and how great he was to work with. |
| The Real Wizard 20.09.2018 20:05 |
dysan wrote: people seem to accept Camilla Parker Bowels to the lovely Princess Diana WT actual FYeah, no kidding. Or maybe it's possible that people can like BOTH Camilla AND Diana. But nope - it's a zero sum game, like sports. You need to pick your favourite, and there is no room for coexistence or nuance. |

The Real Wizard Yes i can point to a Lambert fan who has trashed Freddie, try Sweetcaroline on here for example she goes on and on and on how great Lambert is and what a better lead singer he is to Freddie. See you don't know everything that goes on in here Mr Wizard. |

happystar wrote: The Real Wizard Yes i can point to a Lambert fan who has trashed Freddie, try Sweetcaroline on here for example she goes on and on and on how great Lambert is and what a better lead singer he is to Freddie. Why does it concern you so much that an Adam Lambert fan likes Adam Lambert? She's obviously wrong if that's what she thinks, but why can't you just move on with your day instead of saying the same thing a thousand times? The overwhelming majority of people who have enjoyed the recent shows haven't suddenly forgotten about how great Freddie Mercury was. You probably shouldn't take one or two people writing on a forum as gospel truth. |
| Saint Jiub 22.09.2018 02:12 |
FACT!! Adam Lambert IS a better singer than Freddie Mercury!! FACT!! |

Has anyone managed to get hold of the CD. I’d be really interested in hearing all the mixes in the best quality. I’ve always enjoyed this track and I will be trying to hunt down a copy of this for myself. I seem to be a sucker for anything new. Good or bad? I’ll decide when I get hold of it! |

| aristide1 25.09.2018 10:06 |
If you think Brian is an idiot, as the unnecessary yet intentional extended quote suggests, then why don't you say this in your own words, are you afraid people will see who the real idiot is? |
| Star* 25.09.2018 11:03 |
May is more relaxed on stage now than when he was with Freddie so why was that? Mercury was very demanding all striving for the very best and May couldnt handle it. I honestly think May was Jealous of Freddie to some extent. |

Congratulations for the recently achieved royalty status happystar. It's not easy to produce such amount of trash in only a couple of years. |
