With great sadness I just learned that long time Queenzoner and facebook friend Jon Mills has passed away today. Queenzoners may remember him under his username JoxerTheDeityPirate.
Jon had been ill for a long time but he had the most hilarious, evil sense of humour and never let his illness rule his spirit. For us who liked his daily facebook entries there was no warning that something was out of the ordinary, so the shock about his sudden death is heavy. RIP old chap, only the good die young.
I never knew Jon personally, but I always enjoyed his posts on facebook, his countdowns, more especially the Eurovision and Christmas editions (it will not be the same this year without him and those too), and his "never any drama" posts at Joxer towers.
I have no doubt if I had met him in real life I would have liked the guy.
Great guy gone way too soon.
He was a dear Facebook friend of mine. I absolutely loved him, he was a great, funny man. I will miss him. I don't think I will be the only one to miss him.
Goodbye mate, thanks for the laughs. Sorry about all the bad weather the East coast of Canada sent your way ( inside joke there ).
My condolences to his family and friends. RIP.
This was such a shock, and so sad. Jon was always so upbeat and funny...I will forever miss his wicked sense of humor, the daily morning Facebook posts from "Our Fearless Leader", "Pint and a Pasty Day", and him posting photos from the Wonky Corner Garden at "Joxer Towers".... and of course, his love for Queen.
RIP, Pirate...you will be missed.
Didn't know him personally, but always enjoyed his posts. What a character! I read about this on FB earlier and knew straight away who it was. So sad. My thoughts are with his family and friends :(
Been a long time since I've posted here, but I woke up to the news on Facebook this morning and it made me so sad.
I will not pretend I was best friends with Jon, or even close with him but he was such an active Queen fan, along with being very active on social media. Always posting positive, amusing and funny things - usually snapshots of what was going on with him, his morning coffee, his cat ("the thing of evil") or just amusing news articles. I enjoyed his presence.
Jon always had a nice thing to say to everyone, a positive person and was always sure to "like" people's posts on Facebook. Which sounds small but actually can make a huge difference to others.
Such a shock and so sad this has happened.
When I saw his hospital picture on Facebook last Friday, I couldn't except to hear the awful news two days later. He was posing with a smile on his face and even though he said he was 'just alive', I didn't take that too seriously. Jon was always joking around. I saw someone reacting calling him an "attention seeker", of course with a wink as well.
Even though I haven't been posting here for many years, the tight group of Zoners of the old days are still a family. Many of us are still in touch. We were all reading Jon's posts on Facebook and his funny Tweets. I will miss the Eurovision nights we (Marialvy and I) had together with Jon and Maggie. I will miss the life lessons he used to give me when I was younger. Even though I didn't follow them all... I'm afraid I would have been still alone if I would have ;-)
Jon. You were and are special enough to have my Queenzone account digged up and share these words with the community. Wherever you are now, please keep entertaining the ones surrounding you. Here on earth you'll be missed.. but who knows we all meet again one day! Take care buddy.
Does anyone know what was wrong with Jon? I remember him posting a photo on FB with a cast on his foot a few days ago. I didn't think it was anything serious, and my first impression was that he fell. I didn't think things would be that bad.
He was a funny fella. Very insightful with his opinions. Will miss him lots.
I believe he was diabetic. So, it may be possible it was due to complications from that. I will miss our brief conversations about the filming of Doc Martin seasons that he was able to see from his place. RIP, John.
I only knew him from Queenzone. He was a funny and knowledgeable guy. He tolerated my unfunny jokes about Cornwall and wicker men. I am sorry he is gone.
Sad to hear Jon passed away. I sadly i never got to meet him, but i liked talking with him and his funny posts and reactions to my posts on fb. I will miss our annual Eurovision chatsessions.
Rest in peace Jon. <3
It's quite sad. How fragile life is... I just hope he's in a place where he can enjoy his pasty & pint as usual. This is a loss for the world because such a positive vibe you won't find in other places
From what I've heard, things got from bad to worse. Starting with a foot infection, followed by pneumonia and on Sunday morning his heart couldn't take it anymore. It was totally unexpected according to his family. On the picture he shared on Facebook last Friday he was looking quite ok in my eyes, posing with a bright smile.
Very sad to hear about this. Its been many years since he posted here I believe, but I recall his posts quite well.
If I am not wrong, his daughter used to post as well.
RIP.
This is sad news. I remember him well from his many posts here. Always cheerful, doing his best to entertain us with news of his daily activities and his happy and content life in a Cornwall village (where he had no need to leave, because eventually most interesting people would show up, including Roger Taylor). Thank you for letting us know, YV.
