What was the first 12 inch Queen single? |

Staying Power The first 12" extended edit |
Saint Jiub 21.07.2018 16:56 |
Staying Power is one of the few pieces of Queen vinyl that I still have ... But, boo hoo, I got rid of my turntable a few years ago, as it was sitting in the basement for over 10 years unconnected and collecting dust. Staying Power was not remixed by Queen. It was remixed by John Luongo. However, for the flip side, John Deacon did the extended remix of Back Chat. Therefore, I uselessly consider Back Chat to be the first "real" 12" single. |
IanR 21.07.2018 17:49 |
I like the 12" of Back Chat, as it has a 'proper' ending to the song, instead of the fade-out. For the same reason, the extended mix of Radio Ga Ga appeals to me too. |

I tried to sell some Miracle and Innuendo 12" singles on ebay recently. They're basically worthless so I binned them :( |

dysan wrote: I tried to sell some Miracle and Innuendo 12" singles on ebay recently. They're basically worthless so I binned them :(Sounds like I should bin my "The Miracle" LP album. I don't know why I have it. I think I won it in a raffle at a "Queen" convention. |
dysan 21.07.2018 20:04 |
You'd get a few quid for it. Funny, I think of The Miracle as a cassette - strange to think of it on vinyl. |
Saint Jiub 21.07.2018 20:17 |
HA - I think of The Miracle as a CD. I originally bought Queen albums as 8-tracks, but bought Flash Gordon, Hot Space, and The Works on LP and A Kind of Magic on cassette before buying The Miracle on CD. |

Nevermore/Hangman 12" radio single 1971. Because it never existed it has since become a serious collector's item, but so rare that people either don't have it or they know someone who doesn't have it. |

Surely Queen's real first 12" single was "Radio Ga Ga ( QUEEN1) and then that carried on with "I want to break free" then "Its a hard life" "Hammer to Fall" etc............ |

happystar wrote: Surely Queen's real first 12" single was "Radio Ga Ga ( QUEEN1) and then that carried on with "I want to break free" then "Its a hard life" "Hammer to Fall" etc............Surely not – someone already said the correct answer above: 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love'. |
Star* 22.07.2018 18:20 |
But "Crazy little thing" was not extended so cant really be treated as a true 12 inch version single. |

happystar wrote: But "Crazy little thing" was not extended so cant really be treated as a true 12 inch version single. The question in the opening post was "What was the first 12 inch Queen single?"Where do you see the word "extended"? |
Star* 23.07.2018 14:31 |
In the 1980s many bands had extended versions of the 7in single version so the 12in single was born. |
Penetration_Guru 23.07.2018 20:51 |
I've got a WWRY / WATC Elektra promo 12" from 1977. There was also a FBG / BR one the following year. |

happystar wrote: In the 1980s many bands had extended versions of the 7in single version so the 12in single was born.I agree, but I understand the skepticism expressed by "TQ". Like me, you are just a lunatic troll. LOL |
dysan 24.07.2018 08:06 |
The 12" single was actually born from the Disco explosion. As a format it was promoted a long the lines of 'Disco Special' featuring enhanced quality and mainly used by rock bands as an extra format for their regular cuts. Somewhere along the line someone thought - 'lets make this longer!' and collectors everywhere got boners (and wide-ons) at the prospect of multiformatting singles. So the format came first, the 'extended 12" version' came later. |
Star* 24.07.2018 15:38 |
Queens first extended 12in was Radio Ga Ga. |

Back on topic ... sort of ... What is your favorite 12" single that was remixed by Queen? One of my favorites is the 12" version of Scandal. I think the album version of Scandal is dreadful ... |
dysan 27.07.2018 07:32 |
I used to avoid the later ones from The Works (MOTP etc) because they were pretty badly looped and just too long, but I think most of them have been ok in hindsight. The best has to be the extended single version (not the 12") of IWTBF - almost unfathomable they didn't just stick that onto the album when the initial stocks ran low and they re-pressed it. Of the pure 12" version - probably for me it's the Staying Power one. Some extra guitar twiddles. |

happystar wrote: Yes my delusion is Queen were better with Freddie! No, your delusion is that your personal opinion, taste and/or lack thereof is normative and everyone should submit to your 'superior' discernment and knowledge, even though you don't even have your basic facts straight (case in point: you repeatedly making an ass of yourself by posting clearly wrong 'facts' in this topic even after these 'facts' have been disproven). For the record: I don't like Q+AL. I hate people like you and your sick little buddy runner_70 who so poison all discussion that simply not liking Q+AL is deligitimized because it is hijacked by fanatics and homophobes. |

This level of arrogance in a person who has just demonstrated an inability to get even the simplest, most easily googled facts straight *in this very topic* is not just laughable, it is frankly disturbing. I definitely would not trust you with any task requiring any level of responsibility. |

Another favorite 12" sort of ... (besides my penis) ... LOL A Kind A Kind of Magic ... In my opinion it combines the best of the studio version and the 12" version in an excellent smaller package. |
dysan 30.07.2018 08:59 |
I wish I liked Duran Duran more - their 12" versions were usually entirely new recordings with longer sections. Would've been great if Queen did that. |

What a surprise, pathetic asshat happystar makes proclamations about what bands other people are allowed to compare with Queen and/or listen to. And that in the very topic where he got humiliated, MULTIPLE TIMES, by demonstrating his complete lack of even the simplest factual knowledge of the band he thinks he's an authority on. What a loser you are! |
