Hi!
I'm new here and not used to writing on forums at all so I apologize in advance if there's something wrong with this post.
I've heard/read a quote from Roger where he says something like "I hit the high notes, Brian hits the low notes and Freddie hits all the notes". I've heard Roger say something similar in a video where he talks about him having a powerful high voice, Brian is able to go quite low and that Freddies voice is powerful in a lot of registers. Maybe the first quote refers to this interview, I don't know.
I would love to find this interview or both of them if they aren't the same and I hope someone here can help.
Its been a long long time since i heard May & Taylor praise Freddie's vocal abilities as they save all the hype for the current singer to which i wont mention
the fools name on here.
Freddie was an incredible singer, powerful, regal, had an amazing falsetto for any setting and could turn it on and off like a tap .
So many singers today do not have the amazing tone and style in there voices that Mercury had.
He was original and as we all know wrote all his own music and played piano and acoustic guitar.
Totally agree with you about Freddie! And also with your thoughts on May & Taylor...
Yeah it's definitly an older interview, although one would've hoped that they hadn't stopped talking about being in a band with (imo) one of the best singers ever.
I don't recall ever Brian in any interview saying anything positive about Freddie either vocals or performances etc while Freddie was alive.
I understand Brian and Roger can't be going on and on about Freddie's voice while they're trying to slightly move on with the (gift from God) sorry I couldn't resist lol. I think the only time they will ever go on about Freddie again is when Adam gets bored and joins the Scissor Sisters.
I think Brian and Roger became warmer in their attitude to Freddie as he was becoming more ill, throughout the Miracle and Innuendo. Roger in particular said a few really nice things about him on the Innuendo EPK (I think?).
In the Days of Our Lives documentary Roger said something like, you can hear Freddie's voice is becoming weaker but he hits all the notes. Actually I disagree with Roger's assessment, I think Freddie's voice was the best it had ever been on the last recordings, and because he had stopped touring, smoking, and drinking, it became smoother and flowed more easily between the registers. That and he did have a little training to help while he wasn't feeling so well.
LOL at Adam joining Scissor Sisters.... actually I like them!

Roger said that his voice was getting thinner but he still hits the notes. Roger is 100% right on that.
Freddie did record some of his best performances on Innuendo and his technique was better, but just compare his Innuendo voice to the voice on A Kind Of Magic/Barcelona. He doesn't have the same richness in his tone and he doesn't have that big resonant voice he had when he was belting.
Wrong, Queenzone members hate One Year Of Love....Amazon reviewers like the song, especially highlander fans. As far as Brian And Roger never saying good things about Freddie, that's nonsense. Brian praises Freddie all the time. He's a huge fan of his as a writer, singer, even praised his piano playing.

Agreed, I've seen loads of interviews where they praise Freddie, they both said they think about him every day, no idea why people are so convinced they don't care anymore, liking Adam doesn't stop them missing Freddie.
It's a nice John song in my opinion...not classic or anything but nice. The Sheer Heart Attack, ANATO crowd hate It, but reading reviews from the average listener who bough A Kind Of Magic because of Highlander seem to like it.
Greg I'll grant you that it sounds thinner. To be honest I thought it just sounded more flexible. With something as complicated as a voice and a person's health, it's very difficult to know exactly what the causes of his new tone were. I know it's fairly easy for a seasoned vocal coach to analyse a voice and say exactly what a singer is doing, but sometimes the reasons behind it are less clear. Was it a choice? Was it because he was in pain? Was it because he couldn't get enough air through? I don't know. Perhaps after all these years of rock belting he decided he wanted a smoother tone, and perhaps that was combined with the sad fact he wasn't so well and couldn't give as much.
I do agree that the performances on A kind of Magic and Barcelona - in particular Barcelona - are absolutely amazing. Some of that lighter quality is starting to come through on Barcelona - on How Can I Go On (I'm thinking in particular of "when all the salt is taken from the sea", but then on "is anybody there to believe in me" we are right back to power singing).
The Miracle LP has a mix of that kind of power voice and the lightness of Innuendo, but it seems to belong more to the Magic style voice. The Miracle song itself could almost be on the Barcelona album.
Talking of Freddie hitting all the notes, up until very recently I thought his tuning was impeccable, much better than modern singers, but in the past 4 or 5 years I've thought that some of Freddie's vocals sound more raw than the current generation - that's just from hearing the radio - and of course if you're anything like me you can have the radio on and not think about these things until in retrospect. Then it dawned on me - EVERYONE today uses autotune. Everyone. Including Freddie on Let Me in your heart again (obviously the choice of Brian and Roger). Freddie of course never used autotune in his lifetime, and his voice was streets ahead of every other singer. I'd love to hear say, Pink or Nate Ruess or the guy from Keane without Autotune. One used to hear Robbie Williams without Autotune, I never liked his voice that much although I he obviously has some charisma to some.
