Hello! Music could be relaxing and annoying but of course, we have different preferences. I like a mellow rock and hate Rap a bit It sometimes annoys me. How about you?
I'm fine with pretty much any music, as long as it's made honestly by people trying to express themselves, without taking pecking orders from an A&R guy who is contractually obligated to be in the studio and on the tour bus. There's far more control from the white suits at record labels than most people realize - it's been there for decades. But fortunately 99% of the music out there isn't in the pop realm, where artists have complete freedom to do as they please.
Rap isn't explicitly bad. There's a ton of good rap. Every genre has good music and bad music.
But I have to say, I can't stand the sound of trap rap. Few things are more annoying than a fake hi-hat that sounds like a chainsaw. And it's all over r&b music now too.
99% of the stuff you hear on the radio. I used to hate rap music, but I learned to like the 80's rap artists. I used to hate ska, now I really enjoy it. I used to hate jazz, now I can REALLY enjoy it.
Basically I can say I like music which sounds like the artist put his or her heart into it and strongly dislike almost all commercial music. You can clearly hear what music is done by an artist and which music is done by a committee.
99% of rap annoys me and a lot of modern commercial/popular music. These days most of the people in the charts are performers, not musicians. And I don't like (not to the point of annoyance) reggae and instrumental jazz - so many 7th chords there that it's becoming boring after a while, just like avoidance of the regular tonic chords. I just don't feel it.

There are a ton of good rappers, and the music is often far more than samples and beats.
Madvillian/MF DOOM
Atmosphere
Common

Blackalicious
Solange
And of course Kendrick Lamar. I'd argue that he's the Dylan of our time. They don't just hand out Pulitzer prizes.
And he is a massive force for good. He is changing the narrative and empowering black communities in America unlike anyone since MLK.
I'm surprised that no latinos here have mentioned reggaeton. Pretty much every single latino rock enthusiast hates reggaeton with a passion. Personally I can dig some of the beats, but a lot of it is garbage.
Is there a particular genre name for Modern Top 40 pop that constantly features auto-tune and trap? That bugs the shit out of me!
Personally my most disliked music genre is bluegrass, although some of it can be appealing. If it were to pick a music genre so bad that can't even be considered music that would be Avant Garde or whatever shit Yoko Ono is doing.
Anything where some dilbert uses an old song and sings/raps over it.
I've never been a lyrics person therefore all rap is shit.
Country and western can fuck off as well.
Modern country music is just an atrocity, and so absurdly far from its roots. Corporate drivel.
Most top 40 is trash as well. The Chainsmokers are probably the worst offenders.

Agree about Country, I hate The Shires too with an absolute passion but I do like Ward Thomas who I think are great.
