Been listening to some Brian and Roger solo stuff lately. There are some gems on those albums. Well they were part of Queen.
What if this "Queen plus" never happened at all , they would have retired Queen (like John did) and did more solo stuff? Roger has put out some albums thats true but I am completely saddened by the fact that Brian hasnt done anything worth mentioning for the last 20 years since Another world. He was almost on Freddies level songwriting wise and even on Another World there was some of his Queen magic. WTF happened? He completely dried out creatively - instead he is making a fool of himself with Lamebird being a sad nostalgia tribute act. Cannot understand it really
1) Cozy Powell died.
His solo career likely ended that day (although he still had to fulfill the tour dates in 1998). One wonders if he would have gotten back together with Roger in 2000 had that not happened.
2) Astronomy.
Science and creating art are hard to do side by side, as they require completely different parts of the brain.
Most artists are lucky to get a decade of creative peak before things dry up, but Brian had a pretty solid 20+ years. He'd done it all with music, so he decided to change course and get his PhD. Pretty admirable.
I like a great deal of Brian's and Roger's solo music. The solo albums after Freddie died still get spins by me (BTTL, Happiness, AW, EF, and FOE ) are pretty good albums. I agree that their are gems on those.
It's sad that they did not release more solo music. Would have been very interesting to see what Brian and Roger would have came up with.
If only...

Roger has made solo music up to last year. And a lot of his most recent stuff is quite good. link
^ this is probably the best piece of Queen related music released since Made In Heaven. It is a work of art.

Yes, that is brilliant. I would not have minded a full album or an EP by Roger or Brian n recent years.
Basically in my opinion i think he is far too busy with other items that seem to interest him more to be able to spend time writing, recording and producing a solo album.
He can't seem to say no to certain projects and would hazard a guess that he has plenty of unfinished pieces of work or work he has finished but does not feel good enough that he may return to in future years ( rather like his last 2 albums that were o.k but very disjointed again just my opinion )
I feel Roger has produced far superior solo work and would look forward to another release from him rather than Brian.
However a Brian box set would be nice to book end what he has produced both in the studio and live.
I have often wondered if he was to spend 4 months writing new material and then record this straight away without any interruptions what sort of album we would get ... possibly his best work solo wise for us fans but maybe a dated sounding record...interesting.
I also hoped that Brian and Roger would team up for an album together sharing the writing and vocals but doubt that would ever happen

As far as Brian is concerned, I think the well is dry. Too much time moaning about basements, billboards and badgers, and not enough crack cocaine and hookers. Aside from Everything That Glitters, which was okay, the last good song he wrote was The Call and even with that, the lyrics were so bad they could have been written by Roger.
;)

I think you're right, apart from touring which he seems to love he's more interested in animal welfare, stereoscopy and astronomy. Both he and Roger have said without Freddie they struggle to write anything very creative, they think he was the driving force and the fact they argued all the time when creating music made for some great results which they don't feel they can replicate now. I guess they just aren't motivated anymore, well Brian at least, I think Roger would give it a go and he may do once the tour ends, since Adam is likely doing solo stuff next year.
