Freddie is the hardest member to copy, the rest are easy. Dont think the guy acting like Freddie got it right though and they are steering away from Freddies gay life style and almost insisting that he dated girls more which is wrong. Mercury had 99% more male lovers than female. |

The fact is that Freddie was gay (or bisexual if some prefer this word) and it's not right if they ignore that part of his life in "Bohemian Rhapsody" movie. His relationship with Mary was used for years and years in newspapers, books, documentaries to cover his real private life. Even still today. No wonder that they chose relationship with her for central theme about his private life in movie. But we still don't know what the movie will be like. Maybe will not completely ignore that part of Freddie's private life in movie. |

They've also used a small & tall agency (Dwarf actors) so I don't think it's going to be a complete whitewash. I think the media made that out based on it showing him with Mary in the trailer, they like clickbait. |

The problem is some people are film critics without having seen the film. Mary played a huge part in Freddie's early years ( around the formation of Queen and the first couple of albums) As has been told many times in interviews and documentaries. She played a constant part in his life after they split right up until November 1991. So any film about any period in his life or the band's history will feature Mary Austin. Also Freddie's sexuality and life style have been well documented, again in interviews and documentaries so there is no great secret in any of that. The film doesn't have to unearth every detail and every move Freddie made with everyone. Even if t only shows one wild party scene in the late 70's early 80's and mentions or shows one or two of his gay lovers or relationships then it would have done enough to explain who he was outside of being a musician and singer. If some people are looking for 90 minutes of gay clubs and bath tub scenes it probably isn't going to be the film for you, and that is only a part of a much bigger story anyway. |
Michael Scapp 24.05.2018 12:58 |
Freddie was banging Barbara Valentin well into the 1980s. Brian May is quoted saying he was taken by surprise by Freddie's bisexual lifestyle, which he noticed somewhere around 1975. I think if this movie glosses over this to make it more PC by today's standards, then you're not telling the real story. |

A movie about Queen not gay lifestyle |

If a movie was about Neil Armstrong you could bet it would touch the subject about the Moon. Gay bath house ffs. Thats not what Im talking about but recognise who he really was. But hey lets wait till november then we can chat . |

Michael scapp : Just because Freddie was supposedly at it with Barbara Valentin does not make him Bisexual, because he had hundreds of male lovers, especially in New York as Peter Freestone would confirm. Mercury preferred male lovers to female. Jim Hutton was probably the closest Freddie ever came to finding true love with another guy. |

@happystar Of course, you're right and I personally did not see anything interesting in this trailer. Whether it's Queen / Freddie artistically or personally. However, I noticed it's not worth discussing it here, as this place is full of hardcore fans, incapable of any objectivity whatsoever. Although that's just a tiny percentage of the viewing public and I can tell already this film won't have an easy ride if the trailer and first general reactions are anything to go by. Having said that, I'm quite happy to suspend my judgment until I actually see the whole movie. Let's just remember what Freddie said once - "the good and the bad" - that's how he wanted it. |
Michael Scapp 24.05.2018 17:43 |
happystar - Not that I care, but I do not agree. I am hetero, I have been with a few ladies before I was married. If, God forbid, I ended up waking up with some dude, you can throw my hetero label out with the trash. Freddie was enjoying both sexes, I believe right up until his HIV test results. He stated this himself -"I’m just an old slag who gets up every morning, scratches his head and wonders what he wants to fuck" But then again, who gives a shit. The bottom line is that every Queen fan in the USA will go and see this happily, the rest will seem to grumble and complain. Bryan Singer is an ass isn't he - already shitting on this trailer as not being gay enough. Of course hisstandard for gay enough = propositioning 15yo boys. |
k-m 24.05.2018 17:57 |
@Michael Scapp Bryan Fuller, not Singer. I did not see any reaction from Singer yet. |

@ Vocal Harmony Of course no one expects "90 minutes of a gay movie". I think that most of people is expecting a movie which will present a Freddie as a person as he really was. The main question is whether this is a movie about Freddie Mercury or movie about Queen and their music. If it's movie about Freddie it's not fair that this part of his life (gay lovers, friendship with other friends, AIDS, solo work, love and life with Jim ) will be is very small part of movie or it doesn't exist in the movie. And I repeat again , of course, we have not seen the movie yet. But we can comment about trailer and what is being told about the movie. Probably there will be more trailers. My coments were most about trailer. |

Personally i think the film will be a car crash just like everything else that has been put out after freddies passing. Money making schemes with no quality attached but hey anything Brian & Roger gets involved with now turns out rubbish. |

Oh God, I can't believe some of the posts here. Freddie was gay, that's it. Bringing up the fact that he had 2 female lovers of some significance doesn't mean he was bi automatically. Is there any mention of him having a female lover other than Barbara Valentin in his last 7 years or so? Or at all? Why haven't all those women come forward in the 25+ years after his death? Oh, and him being promiscuous and careless but he somehow used protection with women and never fathered a kid in 20 years of rock and roll lifestyle. He was gay. Period. |
Wiley 25.05.2018 12:37 |
Oh, and the movie trailer has few scenes depicting/ suggesting him being gay: (1) 70s him looking away from Mary and then the quick clip of 80s Gay-clone Freddie flashing on the screen; (2) then the one with the man approaching him sitting at the piano; (3) and the one with some guy throwing something at - presumably - Freddie's limo while Freddie sings "Killer Queen". Can't spell it out much more than that. Also, keep in mind it's a PG13 movie (most likely) so don't expect full frontal male nudity and hardcore gay sex. That's not heterowashing, that's called making a big-budget Hollywood movie. |

Wiley : You are correct and many on here are in denial that Freddie was in love with men. Mary was just freddie pretending that he was one of the guys with a bird so not to attract attention from anyone around him to that fact that he was gay. Most of Freddies friends in the industry were gay, Cliff Richard, Boy George, Mick Rock, Elton, Wayne Sleep, etc........... No army of woman knocking on Freddie's doors ever. When he met Jim Hutton in a bar the first thing said to him was "how big's your cock" |

Talking of happystar's highly informed views, I haven't seen anyone on here claiming Freddie wasn't gay, bisexual or had gay relationships. I'm sure he'll put us all on the right path by quoting actual posts were he has read all this and I'm sure he will now provide us some documented proof of Mick Rock's gay life style. |
